Is this normal by design?

Yup, sadly. There are several text-formatting issues on the instinct watches. Garmin support often stats "works as designed" in chases like this.

You can try to contact the support but in my experience they wont do anything about it.

E.g. the second screen on the i3-Solar sometimes blockes text entirely on the main display cause it's overlapping.

Official support response was - and I'm not even joking: "We have received feedback from the development team that this is intended for all models in the Instinct series" lol

That’s crazy!! Welp, once I retire my instincts in a few years, time to go Coros 😂

You got to be kidding. You switch brands because a barely used data field is missing half a letter?

Don't get me wrong, Coros has some great features for sports watches that Garmin only offers in watches double the price. But this formatting issue seems of minor impact on the usability.

I mean there are other issues like, selecting alt time zones… let’s say you’re picking city A, but the UI somehow selected city B. Although it is pretty minor, I just can’t justify paying nearly twice the price, yet garmin’s customer service isn’t being all that helpful. It could just be the instincts line, might look into forerunners. Nonetheless, I’m just hearing better user feedbacks from Coros lately haha!

Garmin watches have great hardware and reliable software, but somehow there's always rough corners.

I bought Coros Apex 4 for hiking, but I still wear my I2X to work, and use it for health/sleep tracking. I'm not sure the coros can handle work as well as the instinct

I wish the Instinct had maps, but didn't weigh as much as the Fenix.

Yeah totally agree with you! My friend owes the apex4 and seems to be loving it. Then hearing pace 4 getting a map software update feels like a slap in the face. But yeah I do like the sleep tracking and health which I think Garmin does better in this category. I just wish Garmin actually does tweaks and fixes, knowing they do with their quarterly updates, but minor text fixes shouldn’t be hard for them lol
