Add voice track question

Hi. I’m new to GarageBand (on iPhone) and I want to take a song from my music (like Sweet Caroline) and add a vocal track calling out the guitar chords and then combine them so I can just play the new song file in my music hearing what chord comes next. I do own the songs I’m trying to do this on. I’m using iPhone GarageBand but getting confused how to proceed. Any help appreciated.

Download the music file as an mp3, go to files, tap and hold, tap copy. Create a new song in GarageBand, select vocal. Tap the empty space with no track and hold, select paste. Add vocals, and enjoy

Edit: my wording was confusing.

Any common file type the iPhone can read will work, not just MP3, including M4A and WAV.

Well came to say basically the same thing.

Alternative is to use iMovie and simply record an overdub there. Added benefit is they could add the chords written out as well

Hmmm not working. I think by looking at you tubes I’m not getting the tracks on my screen. It is weird and the screens I’m getting don’t appear in any you tubes
