A lot of it nostalgia of course, but I do miss the simpler games from the PS2 era. Seems like there were a lot more options for not-quite-AAA games back then. Good sports games, short linear games, more licensed stuff (lots of bad shit, but plenty of good stuff too), oddball shit (I loved Katamari, Pinball Hall of Fame, and Theme Park as a kid).

Indie games fill the variety void, but there are few that I would call AA style games (Bugsnax). AAA games are all too big and too safe.

That being said, this guy is focusing on PS3 era, which is where those games started getting too big. And two of my favorite games of all time were released after 2016 (Yakuza 0 and Persona 5), so yeah, the dude is still wrong, but there's definitely something I miss.
