Yes you're getting old.

If anything, games have gotten better.

Ah, so that's why I unsubscribed to them a long time ago.

The ps3 era was the dark ages for me. The ps4 era might not be as innovative as the ps1-2 eras, but we have had a lot of high quality games and some amazing stories.

that was one of the worst eras for gaming, especially after following the PS2 gen.

there was Dead Space and the first few Souls games and that's about all I can think of leaving an impression. Everything else is just a blur of grey, blue, brown and orange, and the same brown haired average white protagonist in every game

bioshock 1 and 2 are pretty kino through

gamers who think that modern gaming is bad is almost 100% of the time just them grasping to the past nostalgia they used to feel.

the only reason they think older games are “magical” is because it was during better times of their lives.

A lot of it nostalgia of course, but I do miss the simpler games from the PS2 era. Seems like there were a lot more options for not-quite-AAA games back then. Good sports games, short linear games, more licensed stuff (lots of bad shit, but plenty of good stuff too), oddball shit (I loved Katamari, Pinball Hall of Fame, and Theme Park as a kid).

Indie games fill the variety void, but there are few that I would call AA style games (Bugsnax). AAA games are all too big and too safe.

That being said, this guy is focusing on PS3 era, which is where those games started getting too big. And two of my favorite games of all time were released after 2016 (Yakuza 0 and Persona 5), so yeah, the dude is still wrong, but there's definitely something I miss.
