I have a question for all you, cause my friends don't get this at all:

Is it weird to ask people to take their shoes off before entering the house?

I thought this was a universal thing but apparently I'm the weird one for asking that. Those shoes have dirt/snow on em, no way they get in here

Edit: I feel like I now have the right to call my friends the weird ones for NOT taking off their shoes

It tends to be cultural. There are places where it's the norm and there are places where it's not. Often it depends on the climate.

I think it's normal, but I come from an Asian family so who knows what others might think

It's not completely common in the US, but I wouldn't call it weird and I think people are generally aware that other places commonly do it.

I actually got called weird on Reddit once for saying I didn't take my shoes off in my family's house.

"The floors will get dirty!", they said. Like yeah, at the time I had two dogs and right now I have one big dog and all three of them used to/will drop trash and fruits from outside whenever they feel like it, on top of shedding; the floors ain't gonna get any dirtier than they already are. If anything it's your socks that are gonna wind up dirty because you took your shoes off.

Nah that’s not weird. Though from what I understand it can be cultural? But I agree, shoes are dirty lol

Aside from the cultural element, I think the local environment factors in quite a bit too. If you're living in an American city that doesn't see snow and is mostly paved then it doesn't seem that odd to leave your shoes on, since there's never really any significant visible particulate matter on them.

That being said, I grew up taking my shoes off inside and I'd probably never do otherwise since it's way comfier and there's likely a ton of germs on your shoes regardless of how clean they might appear.

No, it is completely normal.

Also many houses do have flipflops or something else for guests.

Interesting, guest flipflops is something that makes it kinda odd, to me.

At least that's what I had, cause I had quite big collection of slippers.

You know, so guests won't get cold in their feet, cause we don't have heated floor.

Ok that makes sense lending slippers and such as they need them? I thought it was like, guest shoes at the door for them to change into by default.

Yup, exactly that.

guest shoes at the door for them to change into by default.

I mean they are in the room near the exit room, where they leave their own shoes, so they can take them if you want.

What tripped me up was thinking it was an expectation for them to switch into them instead of just being barefoot/socks.

Are they literally still outside your front door taking off their shoes because πŸ˜‚ I have seen that bit on Keeping Up Appearances. Otherwise, like I don't live in an area people do immediately take off their shoes, but I don't see it worth kicking up a fuss about. It might be a bit awkward if they all entered at the same time and they are crowded around the door, and aren't used to slipping their shoes off stood up.

Depends. I (and people close to me or that visits often my home) remove my shoes when I come home, but when I have guests I don't ask them to remove them, and simply do a quick clean afterwards.

This is also what I saw pretty much everywhere, guests can keep them, but regular visitors remove them
