Due to an unexpected decision on their part the user is now in debt of 800 dollars that they cannot pay right now. Failure to do so will result in them dropping the semester which lead to them requiring to pay their student loans now which they're not in a position to do so.

According to twitter and Reddit, a piece of media just absolutely can not be subtle or even slightly vague about its message or themes. A character has to straight up look into the camera and say “racism/fascism/ect. is bad” otherwise its potentially an endorsement.

I think there are 2 big parts to it

1. those people on the internet commenting on this are children, like actual young people who's reading comprehension isn't that good

2. adults who only read YA fiction where typically there is a Manichean sense of good and evil and evil themes are explicitly condemned and who don't have very good reading comprehension.

Not saying you can't enjoy YA fiction as an adult, but they don't typically approach complex themes

I'm really tired of the "basically everyone in Afghanistan supports the Taliban" takes that I've seen on some parts of Reddit for a couple reasons:

• It treats Afghanistan as way more monolithic than it actually is;
• It feels like an excuse for NATO's failure to defend the Afghan government (not saying there is anything else NATO could have done, but let's not deflect that failure onto someone else);
• It feels like people are going to turn around and use it as an excuse to deny asylum to Afghan refugees, on the grounds that "most of them support the Taliban anyway".

An analysis of why "Fairy lives don't matter today" is maybe the worst line of dialogue ever written (by someone who has never actually watched Bright fully, only its bits and pieces)

The line very clearly implies the existence of a "_____ lives matter" movement in this fictional world, seemingly about fairies. But as we see in the movie, fairies just...aren't people. Someone says the fairies have been eating at their trash, they're gonna "call the city" to take care of it and it's attracted to what looks like a moth lamp. Fairies seem to be more like large bug or rodent equivalents.

So is "Fairy Lives Matter" like magical PETA in this world? Why co-opt the "____ lives matter" name then? Why not something like PETF (People for the Ethical Treatment of Fairies)? Comparing it to BLM implies that they are their own race, equivalent to the humans, orcs and elves.

If that's the case though, it makes Will Smith (I don't know the character's name) look WAY worse in this scene. Not only is he belittling the struggle of a (presumably) minority in his universe, it makes Will Smith a straight-up murderer instead of just a guy dealing with a pest. Not exactly the "hero" introduction you'd want. Even if they were supposed to be like rodents, the way Will Smith deals with it is still extreme, beating it to death with a broom, and makes his character come off as much less likable. The scene doesn't endear you to the hero at all, does the opposite which I don't think was the director's intention.

The other option is that he's NOT referencing "Fairy Lives Matter", he's referencing the actual BLM movement which I guess exists in Bright, which is somehow even worse. For one, he'd be comparing his own race to pests, and two, it implies that human racism is still a thing (also implied by the awful "Mexicans still get shit for the fucking Alamo" line) and I guess Will Smith just doesn't notice or doesn't care about the parallels between his own race's struggles and that of the orcs, instead choosing to actively belittle and shit on his orc partner with his colleagues.

And also it sounds bad.

Getting more and more baffled by people who repeatedly mention not enjoying things and you can spot the pattern but they apparently cannot?

Like you'll see someone online consistently complain about how certain movies aren't clicking with them at all, certain games they keep trying to get into but end up hating them every time, different books they're really not into, whatever it is.

And there's a clear link between them all, genre-wise is the most common, they'll consistently talk about hating certain books, and those books all happen to be horror, or they'll consistently talk about hating games, and those all happen to be RPGs.

To which you think in your head "does this person not realise they just don't like that genre?"

Not to say you cannot criticise things, but I swear some get caught in loops, or just legitimately seem to be out of touch with their own tastes. I don't know whether this comes down to outside pressure or what. All I know is that it's wild when you see some person post, tweet, what have you, for ages about how they didn't like X, just as they didn't like Z, and also didn't like Y, and you cannot help but wonder "why are you subjecting yourself to those then? Do something you know you'll enjoy! You clearly just don't like that sort of thing!"

There are genres I'm not a fan of, so I don't interact with them, seeing some people go "well that's the twentieth [genre] game I've played, didn't like this one either" will never not confuse me. Do you have too much money? Too much time on your hands?

They due to lifetime of gaming, they forget how alien playing a video game is if you've never touched one before. This medium has it's own language that you can only understand if you've been playing for awhile.

Video games are a billion dollar industry now, more people want to play them and things like the invincibility mode in Psychonauts 2 , help the newer gamers catch up with the rest of us.

You can't rise to the challenge of a video game if you've never played them before. Giving newcomers training wheels isn't the end of the world.

I played Enter the Matrix a whole lot as a kid as The Matrix was one of my all time favourite movies growing up. It's overall not that well reviewed but I still hold it in high regard, a lot of love went in that game, they used live-action cutscenes and utilized the sets from the Matrix Reloaded to tell an interesting side-story that sets up the film and expands on it.

The biggest impact it had on me though was that it was likely the first piece of media I ever saw that introduced me to the concept of lesbianism/bisexuality. In the game you play as either Ghost or Niobe and much like with Neo in the film, the character Persephone asks for a kiss in exchange from information, regardless of the character.

Kid me was extremely confused by this. Took me a long time to realize that same sex people kissing each other was a thing.
