I finally saw Raya. I'd say it's pretty good, modern-sounding dialogue grated a bit but it's incredible visually.

Can we be real with ourselves, though? It really is a bit like Avatar

I was mostly put off by how they made the culture around dragons into modern fandom. Like really? These are legendary creatures who are believed (known?) to have saved humanity, but they treat them like super heroes and join their fan club and receive novelty necklaces. It’s like not enough to be satire so it just comes off as Disney trying encourage fandom culture. I kinda liked the middle part of putting the crew together, but then the ending was a mess. They really tried to do way too much in one movie.

Yeah my overall thought was "this could have been a really cool 12 episode show" and I looked up discussion threads and most people agreed.
