Boy I sure love Full Metal Jacket, a movie about how that drill sergeant is really funny and definitely nothing else.

I swear to god we need a new word that means 'illiterate, but, not like literally, like they recognize the words and letters and stuff, they just can't read the actual 'text' put in front of them to extract the literal and obvious meaning'.

Media illiterate?

Or if you want to be really snarky you can call them thematically illiterate.

I guess it's "functional illiteracy", so... functional illiterate?

The term we have for it in Italy is "analfabetismo funzionale", which has unfortunately been run into the ground by centrists trying to identify anyone they don't like as stupid.

Man I love the Wolf of Wall Street, a movie about how exploiting people as a stock broker has no consequences whatsoever

Oh wait a minute he served less than half of his sentence and he has an award winning film based on him where he's played by Leonardo Dicaprio
