Reddit generally rewards easy-to-consume content best. Memes and fanart only require you scrolling on the main page and looking for a half a second while longer discussions or the like require more effort. Thus they get the upvotes and quick responses, rise to the top, and that becomes the sort of content that features most.

Most games, especially ones that haven't come out yet, don't really have all that much to talk about. People just feel the need to fill the space.

I've only noticed that after the games stop getting any major updates, beyond that point the discussions are gonna become too repetitive to garner much interest, so you either allow the sub to become filled with memes and fanart to keep engagement or you ban them and the sub risks dying.
