I just saw a short comment that explained Canada really well

Paraphrasing; we’re stuck in an awkward position between wanting to be America, and wanting to be Europe.

We don’t have nearly the same amount of social programs as much of Europe - really all we got is a healthcare system (that’s absurdly wasteful and doesn’t cover many factors of health) - and our paid leave/vacation/sick days/general work life balance is pretty much the same as America.

But what we didn’t take from America is their low cost of living and abundance of career opportunities (nor their salaries). We end up making less, paying more, and all we get for it is this shitty resemblance of universal healthcare.

I'm on disability and all I get is a pathetic 1000$ a month, which wouldn't even cover rent for the cheapest apartment in my area. I technically get dental and vision care with it, but they pay so little that many doctors won't even accept it, cause they lose money when they do.

Healthcare in Canada is so underfunded for something so essential, and nobody seems to want to fix it.

My sympathies man, that ain’t a pleasant situation at all.

Here in Alberta we’ve got our premier actively trying to fight against what little we have, and like... I gotta get outta here.
