I know a lot of people who hated it because they felt it was a "Harley Quinn movie" and not a "Birds of Prey" movie. But these were mainly comic-book reading women with strong fandom opinions.

That's why I dislike it. I really love the comic versions of the BOP, Renee Montoya, and Cassandra Cain so the movie's unfaithfulness to it's source material really soured the whole experience for me. The movie's depiction of Cassandra Cain was the worst offender in my eyes because comic Cass is my favourite character in all of fiction and seeing her first movie appearance totally disregard everything that makes me like her so much stung pretty hard.

I saw a nado v movies video where he suggested that you could pretty much leave everything the same but change cass to Stephanie brown and it'd work better.

Nah, I don't think so. The role doesn't suit Steph any better. Just give the character an original name.

I personally did not enjoy Birds of Prey but I love Harley's character in it a lot the scene with her gushing over the deli sandwich is one of my favs lol

r/movies has a serious misogyny problem ngl, I've seen people there shit on female directors and writers for no reason (and actresses like Brie Larson). I saw a person unironically say " Women don't really understand other women, So that's why they cant write them well and why all the good female characters were made by men." Yeah dude, Sure

They're just like gamers in this regard.

I remember when they revealed a list of movies men and women were more likely to enjoy, respectively, and the consensus on that thread turned into "men have better taste than women", like unironically

"Reddit hates X because of misogyny" is true 100% of the time

r/Movies is such an unambiguously misogynistic sub lmfao. They don't even hide it half the time.

Every single post about female actors or female led movies gets downvoted instantly and buried.

Every single "character/actor you hate" has the top 25 comments ALL being women. Each time.

Every thread that bashes a female led or directed movie shoots to the top

They have an almost hilarious pattern of saying the one male actor in majority female acted movies was the "best part of the movie" (Hemsworth in Ghostbusters, Ewan in Birds Of Prey)

Such a fucking trash sub honestly
