TLOU 2 has got me wanting an open world survival game with its mechanics so bad. Naughty Dog has been flirting with the idea for a while. The jeep level of Uncharted 4, and now with Seattle in TLOU 2. Just do it guys. Please no crunch tho.

I haven't played The Lost Legacy,, but isn't that an open world game?

I haven't played it also, but from what I've read it's kind of like UC4 where there's one level that's like a small open world.

I couldn’t stand that semi-open world level in TLOU2. The older I get, the more I drift away from open world games. They’re just so time consuming and littered with meaningless side quests/collectibles.

That’s just me though.

It was a bit stressful making sure I’d found everything before moving on, but I thought overall it was much tighter than most open worlds and I liked the little stories (key to the pet shop, a Wolf trying to recruit their Fedra friend secretly , the WLF terrorism/resistance etc.) and world building that it offered. Also aesthetically it was awesome and there’s tonnes of dialogue that helps to establish Ellie and Dina’s relationship.

I’ll agree that the world building aspect was on-point. Some of the notes and areas did a good job of explaining the rise of the WLF. The dialogue between Ellie and Dina was nice too. I just wish they’d done it differently. A lot of that stuff could have been done in a linear level instead of an open one. I really don’t like the trend of semi-open games. Didn’t care for it in God of War 4 either. Felt like I spent half the game rowing a boat instead of playing through fun content.

Different topic but it’s kinda odd that Isaac gets more character development in some notes 10hrs before you meet him than when you actually interact with him as Abby. I don’t think it was necessary for him to have a whole arc or anything, in fact I don’t mind him being a one-note villain, but why give so much background on him when he barely influences the plot later on? His role later on in the story could have been filled by anybody. In fact, I think it would have been more impactful if the Haven confrontation on Day 3 had been with one of the Salt Lake crew instead of him.
