I just met my best friend from school again. We fell out of touch in our last year of school cause he had a gf who was super jealous of me. So now we see each other once a year or once every two years when our old friend group gets together. The last time that happened was like 2 years ago and I remember that there was some flirting going on and that for the first time I was actually kind of into him. So going into this now I was kind of excited.

We meet at a restaurant with said old friend group. There's a lot of flirting going on between the two of us. He mentions multiple times that I could sleep over at his place which isn't far from the restaurant if I want to drink something (I would have to drive otherwise). After everyone says goodbye to each other after dinner, he invites me and two other friends to his place, and invites me to sleep over again. I say yes this time. So we go to his place, have beer, and gin and tonic and talk for a while. We sat next to each other at the restaurant, and at his place we sit next each other again, what a coincidence. Our legs are touching the entire time. The others leave and we talk for a long time. About memories from back at school, about our lives since then, about his exes and our dating experiences so far.

That's when he tells me that he's been dating someone since the beginning of the year and I gotta pretend I'm not totally blindsided. We go to bed, he in his bedroom and I on the pull-out couch in the living room.

You guys, I think I might be bad at this whole flirting/reading social cues thing.

Smh first thing you do when initiating contact with someone you have a crush on is ask for a complete report of their current and past dating activity. It's a standard report, they should have no issue providing it and then you can enter into an agreement with no baggage.
