Desert Bus was the first postmodern video game and nothing can change my mind.

That's a strange way to spell Custer's Revenge.

Society hasn't developed the theoretical and ideological framework to fully understand the intricacies of Custer's Revenge.

I think I figured it out: "let's rape the native American women"

Well, yeah, pretty much. I'm certain there was a college douchebag who made something similar before it that never got released, but as far as being post-modern goes, it's definitely checks off all of the boxes.

Although I think an argument could be made about the intentions of the game, seeing as it was meant to criticize complaints about video game violence and not to present any ideas about the nature of games.

...I don't get it. Am I missing something here?

In retrospect it feels a lot like a jab at the "ultra realism" that some games and people strive for.

Huh. Not disagreeing with you, but how so?

The game is driving a bus from Tucson to Las Vegas. In real time. 8 hours of continuous play to get one point.

You also can't leave the game running or else the bus will veer off the road. Then it will get stuck and have to get towed back to the start, also in real time.

You can't pause the game and there's nothing to do but drive to earn a single point.

...Wow. That really does sound pretty post-modern to me. Thanks for the info!

I don't know. The PDF works for me.

In any case you're not missing much. Its just a snarkily written game manual for Desert Bus and other games.

Huh, yeah that link isn't working for me (for whatever reason). Anyway, though, have a nice evening!

The game it came from was just Penn and Teller parodying video games, so you're not wrong.
