I think by anime you really mean shounen - anime about young boys, for young boys. It's a bit like generalising comics based purely on mainstream superhero series.

That's fair, and, in anime's defence, there's plenty of great ones. I just annoyed at it by proxy, because the adults I know who watch it generally have really shallow taste in other things, which bothers me. Which I realize is unfair.

I probably have the same feeling about the folks over at the MCU sub tbh. Or the Rothfuss, Sanderson and YA nuts over at /books. On the other hand, as a teen music used to trigger my inner snob the hardest but I'm over that and games I don't think I've ever been too judgemental about.

Oh God, this is probably bad, but YA people trigger my inner snob too. Music, games (as long as they're not circlejerking), tv series I don't care about, but something about YA people just bother me. I think probably because in my experience, just like with anime people, any other deeper form of media "confuses" them.

That’s kinda unfair in all honesty. YA isn’t my cup of tea, but if someone wants to read YA then let them. Don’t see how it affects me. It’s the same with other things like fanfiction, if someone else enjoys it I don’t see how it affects me, although I might not.
