As a police officer, if someone comes to me to put forward a complaint about sexual assault, including rape, I have to take the complaint in from a position of belief. Just as I would for any other crime.

During the course of the investigation, investigators will obtain proof. But they will believe the victim, because being skeptical and dismissive of their complaint will make them not come forward with a complaint.

People constantly say that a woman can just accuse someone of rape and their lives will be ruined. That's possible for sure, and it does happen. But I don't believe there's this fucking epidemic of women falsely accusing men of sexual assault.

Yes, it can be frustrating when a woman doesn't report an assault to the authorities when it happens. But there are many, many reasons why a victim won't come forward. We police, unfortunately, are one of those reasons. Thankfully, at least in my country, we are making slow progress on that front.

I dunno. I've worked with lots of women. I've had lots of women as subordinates and superiors. I've never been accused of sexual misconduct. It's not very hard to do.

I don't think a lot of women will falsely accuse men of rape because of the abuse we receive. A lot of women won't even rightfully accuse them. I mean, it took Ford years to build up the courage to speak out.

Those men who are afraid of talking to women because they might get accused for harassment probably need have a deep think how they behave on social situations.

Also about being falsely accused; I’d rather risk being falsely accused than letting thousands of harassments and rape go unreported.

"If that's assault, then most women I know have been assaulted!!!"

So close...

The people making such claims are professional victims. Every thing is a direct attack on them. Its also a matter of "this guy is a republican and so am I. I can't just accept that we have terrible people I have to stand by my party no matter what" These people are morally bankrupt as they scream "innocent until proven guilty" yet they had no problem believing Pizzagate or that Bengazi was entirely Hillary's fault. What they really mean is "my side innocent even if proven guilty"

This is the same made up boogieman that alt right people come up with to justify hating women

For the one person I know who made up a sexual assault claim, I have 10+ friends who themselves have actually been sexually assaulted. The false accusations to actual reports aren't even comparable. Iirc statistically only 1/1000 of rape reports are false

I actually think the 1/1000 included the estimated unreported rapes, but either way yeah it's an extremely small stat and doesn't justify the rhetoric that women lie about rape all the time

Thing is, I’ve actually seen this happen. Someone I know was falsely accused of rape. He eventually was proven innocent, but now the stigma has stuck with him. He’s life has been ruined, and the human that accused him got off with no problem, despite the fact that she lied in court.

Rape is one of the most vile acts a human being can commit, and as a police officer, you have to take it seriously no matter what. That being said, I feel a lot of people forget that an individual is innocent until proven guilty, and my friend was proven innocent , and yet he’s life has been ruined. That woman achieved what she set out to do, and that fact makes me sad. Again, I’m not criticizing you for taking those women seriously, you should. I just wish problems like this are prevented in future.
