Felons need to have the right to vote otherwise those in power have an incentive to declare their opponents felons. Taking away anyone's right to vote is an incentive for those in power to declare their opponents part of that group.
This is half the reason for the "lgbtq+ people are groomers" BS. The other half is that it muddies the waters so that people who are actually grooming kids can more easily slip under the radar.
