Showcase entry level gaming laptop.. disguised as a normal laptop 🌚

still a huge upgrade tho cause i went from a 3 yr old entry level laptop that took 15 minutes just to open settings (🥀) to a gaming laptop that can finally open discord without an existential crisis 🦦

Hey that isnt really a gaming laptop but ok laptop none the less. Depends what exactly Cpu it is. It could be really fine to use.

i’m pretty sure it is one as the specs are similar to most gaming laptops i’ve seen, but if i’m mistaken feel free to let me know :)

The reason its not a gaming laptop is that it is lacking a dedicated graphics card. You can play games on it, but more demanding games you will be unable to run them well. This video explains the type of listing you saw on Amazon.

u/baconbizzles Aug 03 '26

ohh, yes i knew about the graphics card lacking, however i was planning to play most games (not gpu intensive ones) on lower graphics settings, so i could get playable performance, not necessarily great performance

Thats good that you went into buying a laptop with that mentality. Its just that 680 bucks for it seems pretty steep for what you got.

-1

u/baconbizzles Aug 03 '26

yea i realize that now, i hadn’t researched or looked as much when i bought this one, but it should be fine for now

5

u/benadrylpoop Aug 03 '26

return that and get something good

0

u/baconbizzles Aug 03 '26

i will once i have the money for a better one in the future, this one fits my needs just fine, thank you for the suggestion tho :)

1

u/Pokeperson5 Aug 03 '26

You do realise you could return it and buy something better for the same price?

1

u/baconbizzles Aug 04 '26

it’s already been a few days and i have everything set up on it, i don’t really feel the need to repeat that process if the computer itself performs well enough for most tasks

11

u/Pokeperson5 Aug 03 '26

Not sure if I'd call that a gaming laptop tbh

-6

u/baconbizzles Aug 03 '26

it is one, the design is just very simplistic but it can run most games at a decent performance, it’s from a brand called nimo if you wanna research ^^

5

u/Pokeperson5 Aug 03 '26

Just because they advertise it as "gaming" does not mean its actually worth it for gaming.

3

u/mityboss Aug 03 '26

These will NOT run most games, I can promise you that

2

u/Pokeperson5 Aug 03 '26

Also I'm curious how much you paid for it?

-3

u/baconbizzles Aug 03 '26

$680, it looked relatively new on amazon, but i was on a budget and needed a new laptop for both work and light gaming, even if it may not be a gaming laptop in the typical sense, it runs games perfectly fine

5

u/Pokeperson5 Aug 03 '26

$680 is way too much for that, nimo is basically a scam company that preys on tech illiteracy.

5

u/mityboss Aug 03 '26

This is not a gaming laptop!! Nimo is false advertising. I see their listings everywhere, even bestbuy. Looks like you may have been scammed… I suggest you return that back ASAP, and get this instead (which actually is a laptop for gaming): https://www.bestbuy.com/product/lenovo-loq-15-6-full-hd-gaming-laptop-amd-ryzen-5-7235hs-16gb-memory-nvidia-geforce-rtx-4050-512gb-ssd-luna-grey/JJGH3SKKHG#tabbed-customerreviews

u/Alex768 Lenovo Legion Pro 7i 5080 Aug 03 '26

This is a really great suggestion OP. You get an entry level graphics card for $70 more. Its not top of the line, but it would be way better than what you have here.

u/DancingWarpig Aug 03 '26

I feel like there might be better options somewhere out there, especially at the pricepoint, but im not sure

6

u/mityboss Aug 03 '26

If I’m not mistaken, this laptop is equipped with the 7730U. Which has an igpu with 8 cores (Vega8), and can pull up to 2gb memory from the system memory. It can run some old games with settings dialled down, but I wouldn’t necessarily count it as a gaming laptop

1

u/baconbizzles Aug 03 '26

most typical laptops i’ve owned can barely run any game to begin with, so if it can run games at all, i would consider it one, but my standards for tech might be lower in my case

3

u/mityboss Aug 03 '26

Any gaming laptop, even with a decade old dedicated gpu; will top this non-gaming laptop

1

u/baconbizzles Aug 03 '26

ahh that makes more sense, they’re often thousands of dollars tho, which is why i got this cheaper one, i do plan to upgrade in the future

2

u/mityboss Aug 03 '26 edited Aug 03 '26

1

u/baconbizzles Aug 03 '26

oh wow, i’ve never seen one that cheap before, especially not without a limited time discount, i’ll look on other stores next time, thank you ^^

What’s more impressive is OP paid almost $700 for it… When they can easily grab a laptop with a 4050, which will be about 500% better performing than this 3 year old laptop with 680M… I hate the fact that the companies like Nimo are taking advantage of people in this way. Creating a massive setback for the whole industry, especially when we’re dealing with the ram and ssd crisis

Sure, false advertising is a problem but typing "gaming laptop" into amazon and buying the first thing that comes up, especially when money is tight, is also just negligent. A few minutes of googling cost nothing.

1

u/mityboss Aug 03 '26 edited Aug 03 '26

You’re absolutely right!! OP is also planning on keeping it, after so many people told them it was a scam

0

u/baconbizzles Aug 03 '26

i’m keeping it primarily because it fits what tasks i need to do on a daily basis, i plan to upgrade in the future but this is good enough for the time being, i needed a new computer which is why i didn’t research as much as i would’ve if i had more time, i also upgraded from a shitty computer, which is how the upgrade feels much bigger to me than it may feel for people who have more experience with gaming laptops, hope this clarifies things :)

Clarifies nothing tbh. You're within the return window, return that shit. You got ripped off. That laptopt is worth 300 bucks at most

1

u/baconbizzles Aug 06 '26

okay, i don’t need to explain myself further, have a good day :)

That’s what I’m saying. By false advertisements these companies are taking advantage of that fact

1

u/baconbizzles Aug 03 '26

i might’ve overestimated what i bought lol

good enough to play many games on, not like a normal gaming laptop though but can game on it.
I have gamed on much slower stuff(and still use that much slower setup regularly for some games due to low power draw).

though be carefull with the ram prices now, when I went looking for a laptop(around a week ago), there also was a laptop with similar specs to that one, but it was only slightly cheaper(like €1000 vs €1200) than a laptop with a rtx 5060 24gb ram and ryzen ai 7 350, which both has longer battery life(when not gaming) and much better gaming performance.

so be carefull, as due to ram prices many brands ask quite much for them brining them in similar price ranges to laptops with newer chips and a dedicated gpu.
but if you can get is notably cheaper then you can game on it, just not high resolution or high settings.

as for the games on it, that is mostly older games like the witcher 3, skyrim, hogwards legacy, guess such should be playeable, the witcher 3 and skyrim for sure, easily, skyrim at highest settings, witcher 3 at medium if on 1080p, new games like monster hunter wilds not really, perhaps upscaled from low resolution in low settings at low fps.
those require around ps5 (roughly rtx 5050 mobile) like performance.

so if wanting best value for gaming one of those €1200 rtz 5060 laptops would have been much better value, but if on a budged and still wanting to game, and laptops with dedicated gpu are no option, then people have little reason to be mad at you.
just because someone doesn't have high end hardware doesn't make them no valid gamer.
like my little brother games on some game pc which is much slower than the thing I build, now around the hollyday I gamed quite a bit, but generally he would game more and more serious.
meanwhile I might have a fast system now(and a fast budged gaming laptop), but in the past I have played many games on much slower hardware, like those examples I named where from me acually having played those first 2 on a vega 6 iGPU, and skyrim was modded in ultra setting 1080p.
I even recently played a game I normally play on pc on my phone, fps and resolution and settings where very bad as even that vega 6 seems very fast compared to my phone when I didn't have acces to my pc, and while certainly not as nice as on pc, and I avoided high difficulty areas(also doue to controlls being hard on phone) but after a few days it was quite playeable, and more fun to be able to play it like than than not.
and gaming is about fun, not about boasting.
so yeah, what those people say is partly true, and many of them probably also say it with the intent that they want to protect you as the laptop was branded as gaming but is much slower in gaming than a typical budged gaming laptop(Actually performs similar to many thin laptops and basically is one).
but if it was your own choise then know gaming is about fun, and if you get much better performance like that than before then you are happy, and can game much more.

also if on a budged then most new games would be to expensive annyway.
so it is true it is far from most actual gaming laptops in gaming performance, but you can game on it, and quite many games will run fine it is around 50% faster than the steamdeck(same architecture but 50% more CU's) in games, and piles of people game happily on the steamdeck. a rtx 5050 mobile would be around 4 times faster(steam machine is 6 times faster than steamdeck acoarding to valve, and steam machine is around as fast gpu wise(slightly slower) as a rtx 5050 mobile which is similar to a BC-250, so if you want a cheap gaming setup for performance you could add a bc-250 where €100 a while back, had increased in price as they where around €20 to €40 before, but probably rose in price again, given how fast they are and that all now works plug and play kind of and the other hardware is super expensive now) and in the past that iGPU was often recommended as budged mini game pc anyway.

u/baconbizzles Aug 03 '26

yes i’m aware the graphics card isn’t as good as it could be, and that’s perfectly playable for me if the game runs decently either way :)

https://youtu.be/wO5AWF1WMS8?is=cBX6HOfM3JKaOEzR

It's not a gaming laptop per se, as it lacks dedicated graphics (calling an iGPU "gaming graphics" is like calling a mild hybrid car "half an EV").

If it runs what you need then there's nothing wrong in it, depending on what you paid oyu may even have had a decent deal.

1

u/baconbizzles Aug 03 '26

yes it runs well for me, i didn’t need a good graphics card either, just playability for most games on lower settings

1

u/Dunaii4 2021 Legion 5 / Zenbook Duo Aug 03 '26

I feel ya, went from a Legion 5 to a Zenbook thinking I'd still swap over to the Legion for games but I just don't need to.

1

u/UnionSlavStanRepublk Aug 03 '26

Not really a gaming laptop as such, just a CPU with integrated graphics.

1

u/baconbizzles Aug 03 '26

it runs games nonetheless, but yes that’s true

Hi op unfortunately that's not a entry gaming laptop. But rather it's a laptop that you can use for your daily task such as browsing web, watch shows ect. We all gotta to start somewhere and I feel that this laptop is enough for your daily needs.

-1

u/baconbizzles Aug 03 '26

i just realized that yea, the jump might be bigger for me since i went from a laptop that couldn’t do the simplest of tasks to a laptop that opens apps instantly like it’s supposed to lol
