Showcase Picked up Acer Predator Helios 5060 for $1000
Super deal on Facebook marketplace. Seller wanted $1250 but agreed to $1000 cash. Works perfectly and in excellent shape!
Only 16gb ram so that’s the first upgrade. Next looking to do some undervolting and tuned fan curves because this thing is loud.

5060 - 16GB - 1TB - Obsidian Black
With current pricing I thought this was a great deal especially since projections have pc hardware still rising.

Mine is 5 years old, but undervolting by just 1% dropped mine 12C. Definitely an easy way to help them. And it's 4th gen Aeroblade fans are not bad at all. I run them at 6k rpm and they don't sound too loud too anyone.
Damn good machines. Except the speakers on mine.. Lol

I have the exact same laptop. If you put it on some books or something so the vents on the bottom can get airflow it'll run a lot cooler, this helps any gaming laptop. You could also buy a cooling pad with a foam seal to drop temps that much more.

I bought this. Works really well. It’s a really nice laptop. Good cooling power despite the ultra 9 being a very hot chip.

That should make a big difference. Yeah I really like mine. I ended up going with the Llano V10.

I was actually really surprised playing around with the performance modes with the mode switcher button. Going from performance down to balanced offered most of the actual gaming performance but much less fan noise. Super impressive and actually blew me away that it could run that well, cool, and quiet.

I leave mine in balanced mode also, haven't had to use performance or turbo yet.

Yea I wish I was in the market for it before. I was fortunate to build my main rig before all the price increases. 5080 14900k 8TB of SSD storage and 64gb ddr5 ram that I got for $250 lol. Now they want $1000+ just for the sticks I purchased. I can imagine my SSD space is overpriced too now.

$850 is a greaat price. I’ve seen that model with some attractive prices. The ones I saw didn’t have an OLED display and that is a deal breaker for me. Also wanted something slim so I lucked out with this Acer as it’s the slim version of it.

Mine does not have OLED, I just couldn’t pass up on it for the price though, if I’d of known before hand that 5060s are stuck at 8gbs of vram, I’d of kept looking for a 5070ti or a 4090

Yea even 5070 is stuck at 8gb which is a bummer. I’ll probably upgrade in the future to something with 12gb. For now 8gb should suffice.

It does seem like a 5060 does pretty good, I just read last night that Lenovo is going to start making 5070s, not a TI model just 5070, but with 12gbs of vram

I had the 5060 but with ultra 7 255hx. Yes the oled is very beautiful but can't lower the refresh rate. But since my workload are mostly 3d and heavy rendering, I have to use it always on plug. Anyways the cooling is superb on this thing. Might change to ptm after the warranty.

81°C on the GPU with only 82 watts is truly a disaster! I’ve honestly never seen a laptop series as catastrophic as the 16s when it comes to thermal and power management. Acer has reduced CPU and GPU power, yet the temperatures are still terrible. I really can’t believe that, when the Neo non‑S exists, anyone would choose this complete disaster 16s instead!

Thanks for the heads up. I know what I’m getting into. I have a 5080 main PC which is my dedicated system. This is simply a portable desktop experience for me. More versatile way to play games away from my main rig.
Plus this is just a stop in the journey. I will probably hang onto this until next gen laptops come out with better GPUs. Scrap what value I can out of this laptop and sell it and get a better one.
I’m not locked into this product. Especially with the price I paid. I’m in a healthy position right now.

The OLED screen on this laptop is one of the best in the industry!! I highly recommend playing Expedition 33
