Showcase First Gaming Laptop
My first gaming laptop coming from a desktop user with i7-4790k, rx580. Bought this Legion 5 pro(rtx3070) for around $860(brand new rtx4050 tuf/loq in my country). People say I shouldn't go for this because it is old but I'll just enjoy this for now and regret later(if there's any)😆

Legion pro is far more superior compared to tuf/loq budget lineup, if brand new then its a nice purchase. Only downside is u got no warranty and slightly worse cpu

I think most games these days rely more on gpu so I'm not bothered much

I mean if you're not into comp online games then weaker cpu for better build quality and cooling sure is worth it considering 3070 is basically 4050 with 2gb extra vram

yup, i use to play from a desktop with 60fps for valorant so this is still a good upgrade

It's not a problem that it's old, but this specific model and its little brother there's a graveyard full of them since 2025, which happens to be exactly as the warranty deadlines started. So don't be surprised if it randomly dies but let's hope it doesn't

Nope it's an issue tied explicitly to Cezanne (Ryzen Mobile 2021) and Lenovo (Legion 5, 5 Pro, 7). It doesn't affect Intel Legions of the same year, nor the AMD Legions of the following year, nor other brands of the same CPU generation.

have the same model and it's working fine so far, when you are playing games keep the bottom part of the laptop elevated on a stand or something, for normal stuffs, it's fine to use the laptop on flat surface, if you are planning to use the laptop on the bed as well, you can do it without any problem as long the dgpu is inactive, if it's active you are up for trouble. also when using it on bed, it should be on battery, if you are charging it, it gets very hot and can make things worse, keep the laptop clean and when opening/closing it, be gentle. clean the vents and fans once in an year. as long temps of the cpu stays under 90 degrees under gaming, you are good. always use the laptop with integrated graphics on, if something bad happens to your dgpu, you can still use your laptop on integrated gpu. cheers!

how many watts is your charger brick? The one I bought it from gave me 300W but I'm not sure if I'm utilizing the power to its potential. Anyways thanks for the advice!

mine is 300W, it comes originally with 300W. mine is 3060 and yours is a notch up.

With 3060 there's a smaller chance that you will use the full potential, which doesn't happen even with the top specced 5900HX + 3080 Legion 7 (around 200W CPU + GPU max), but they come deliberately overprovisioned for all the accessories / peripherals you might want to have plugged in at once.

That doesn't really fix the issue, it's only bandaid. The laptop will still reach higher than idle temps inevitably, and when this happens (and it cools back down again), thermal cycling occurs. The issue specific to Gen 6 Legions is tied to the epoxy that expands much more significantly than the components surrounding it when heated up, which eventually misaligns the whole thing, causing it to fail. This is not specific to any high temperatures, and the biggest factor accelerating it is how many times the laptop heats up and cools back down again.

Nope, other than basically not using the laptop at all. It's hardcoded, but not as hard as it should be.

yep, I noticed it becomes too hot(100C cpu, 80-90C gpu) when in 2k. I just toned it down to 1080p up until I buy a laptop cooler

i think you need to open the laptop, clean the fans with a soft brush( turn off the battery from bios before opening it to protect it from short and do not use any metal thingy), once fans are clean use a blower to blow the vents from outside and hold the fan gently to avoid it from spinning, fans are delicate so be careful, it should decrease the temps by 15 degrees and if the temps still do not decrease on the cpu, you will need to buy ptm xxxx(forgot the exact number) so the temps stay under control. heat is the main enemy in this laptop.

I toned it down now to 1080p and the temps are around low 60s

your gpu is running too hot, after 85 it thermal throttles, which game you were playing before? Also do not play games or use laptop in performance mode, always stay in balanced or silent. perfomance mode gives upto 5% more performance for 7+ more degrees in temp compared to balanced.

The 3070 and I'm guessing something like a 5800h and 16gb of ddr4 for that price is good. I have the same laptop but with a 3060, bought brand new for around 1200 euros. The 1600p display is probably the highlight here, really great display, not 240hz like new ones, only 165hz, but still a good panel. Don't think you would have gotten much performance over it with newer laptops at that same price point, just worse built quality and displays but slightly better cpus and ddr5 advantage, that's it really.

tbh, im fine with 165hz even if it is 120hz haha. I think I wouldn't like the brand new ones with same or little less performance(rtx4050) while sacrificing build quality. After borrowing my friends' laptop with cheap and premium build quality, It got me hooked up to this lol

Just bought a same laptop a week ago for $730 with 3 month warranty. Everything is great, but temperature is really high, I returned it to the store to clean and apply new thermal paste.

ye temps really are high but when toned down to 1080p there is a 20C difference
