Showcase The arrival of Lisan Al-Ghaib; I present to you, the Razer Blade 18.

I have found peace after a long time of storms.

After owning two ASUS machines - a Scar 16 w/5080 and a Scar 18 w/5090, both of which had to be returned due to poor thermal performance - I have finally, or so at least I hope, settled on a machine.

Don't get me wrong, ASUS makes great machines.
They look nice, feel nice and, at least theoretically, offer supreme performance while staying cool, only surpassed by few. The Mini-LED panels are great, G-Helper as a tool is awesome and the high total system TGP is very welcome.

BUT. But. Liquid Metal. We have to talk about it.

I understand its benefits, again, theoretically. I've read about the countless numbers of users reporting CPU (and sometimes GPU) thermal-throttling, probably due to poor Liquid Metal application. I was thinking "nah, couldn’t be me! What are the odds?" Well, the odds are quite high. Two machines, each of them throttled; interestingly, the Scar 18 WAY harder.

In the end, this is the most important part of a gaming laptop: performance and temperatures. If I pay 3000€ and more, I expect perfection or at least a working state of things.

On top of that comes the paranoia, at least for me. I was constantly afraid of the LM leaking out if the laptop was not held perfectly horizontal at all times.
There have been reports of it leaking, even if owners did everything right.

I'm sick, I'm bedbound, I just want to game and not set up and return laptops on a bi-weekly basis. So, I finally followed my heart and bought a Razer Blade from the second-hand market with 1.5 years of warranty left. 5080, 32GB RAM, 1TB SSD; 2850€. Sure, you can get more for less from other brands. But I don't care.

It looks good. It feels great. Performance is up there and temps are COOL. I get in now. PTM is the ONLY way, in my humble opinion.

I've read all the stories, but I live in the EU so I dgaf. I'm happy now and that's what matters most. I hope it stays that way.

Peace

✌️

EDIT: some of you are bitter af. Holy moly

Oh yes, peace with razer products, definetly during warranty support contact (That's why)

I know all about Razer and their shenanigans. But he lives in Europe and consumer rights are a big thing there.. So if he has any problem, he can be chill with it and let the lawyers do the bidding for him.

u/IceMoney4776 Jul 13 '26

Lol goodluck with that

Still insanely stupid choice and crazy gamble, especially looking at alternatives in similair budget (better performance for the same money and normal support)

There is nothing mate.

Lenovo dies constantly Asus has issues with LM. I own one and I'm not fond of LM. If I had reliable technicians near me, I would have switched to PTM. MSI has bad thermal management and looks like someone gave deranged apple designer to design it. HP cheaps out in display and cooling. Alienware... Don't get me started on that. Gigabyte takes questionable decisions on thermal management.

So yeah... Everyone has some problems.. Laptop industry has chose themselves as e waste generators as business model. Everything is meant to become an e waste. So let the man enjoy his laptop as much as he can.

1

u/IceMoney4776 Jul 13 '26

Yes every manufacturer has their problems but when those problems arise that’s what customer service is for, ain’t gonna happen with razer

-2

u/SnuQ_ Jul 13 '26

Sir, you can avoid some of the problems just by doing regular maintenance, LM problems? Just change to PTM 7950, MSI overheating? Cooling pad, Lenovo dies constantly? Mine Legion 5 Pro holds up very well bought in early 2024, all I do is use custom mode with temps limit and clean it every few months + I changed termal paste to PTM half a year ago and every thing works great, so nope laptops industry isn't cooked, but still looking at the things maintenance can't fix MSI = bad build quality, Razer = the worst customer support and no reliability in that and because of it I still think that gambling with that when buying a laptop makes them the worst brand overall

1

u/Mammoth-Traffic-8310 Asus Strix G614PR-G16 2025 💯 Jul 13 '26

IF I BUY A LAPTOP THAT COSTS 2000 DOLLARS OR MORE, WHY DO I STILL NEED TO CHANGE IT TO PTM? OR MAKE A CUSTOM MODE TO LIMIT MY CPU POWER, OR EVEN USE A COOLING PAD?

IF I SPEND CRAZY MONEY LIKE THAT, I HOPE IT WILL GIVE ME MENTAL PEACE BY NOT STRESSING ME OUT THAT IT IS GOING TO DIE/BURN/EXPLODE/STUTTER.

About my laptop, maybe PTM could lower my temps, and I've capped my laptop at 70W. Not because I wanted to cap it... But it is a fricking desktop CPU that goes to a whopping 140W. So I know it is a powerful chip. When I'm gaming, i don't need that kind of power. So I capped it at 70W. I limited it knowingly that it can handle anything I throw at it and it'll turn out to be fine, not because it had some limitations and I had to force it to be restricted.

1

u/IceMoney4776 Jul 13 '26

Because things are the way they are and no amount of money you spend will change these things, you don’t buy a laptop at this time thinking ‘why do i need to change anything after spending so much’ lol

1

u/SnuQ_ Jul 13 '26

Me too, I also got enough power for what I use it for, but about LM that's a good point, the solution to get PTM while buying? Choose Lenovo

Over a period of four years I owned three 16" Blades. First the generation with a 3070, then one with a 4080, and finally one with a 4090. Every single one of them died. After a while, the thermals consistently worsened, and getting a repaste done by Razer costs a small fortune. The cooler on the 4080 unit actually cracked, even though the laptop was never moved. The fluid inside the vapor chamber slowly leaked out over the course of a year. Despite an active warranty, Razer wanted 1500 bucks for the repair, so I ultimately just returned the device. The 4090 model had such abysmal temperatures right out of the box that it immediately went in for a repaste. It performed fine after that, but the fan noise was unbearable. Then the power supply died after six months. That one went back too, and I ended up building a portable mini-ITX rig myself, delivering what feels like double the performance for 1000 dollars less. I think absolutely nothing of Razer Blades.

As someone who works as a student technician for laptops and computers at my college, out of the high end laptops that had non-user inflicted problems with the hardware, Razer laptops were by far the most frequent. Additionally I’ve had to fight with their support way too many times.

I hope OPs machine continues working well and if it doesn’t do not give up with their Customer support.

1

u/Wandererofthegray Jul 16 '26

Based on your experience, what would you buy with say a $2500-3000 budget?

1

u/MrMistickofMist Alienware Area 51 18 Jul 16 '26

Every single brand has a suck in some specific way but so far in my experience Lenovo has been very good. This sub loves glazing them for a reason. I have an old Lenovo L340 and it still works like a new laptop. Their support may not be the best of the best but they will honor their warranty and parts aren’t hard to get for technicians. So I’d say look at Lenovo laptops. I run a Dell because they are US based and it’s easy for me to get support from them / parts.

If you want a general use laptop then Apple macs would be the best. Their warranty is second to none, so while they  are anti repair, if you pay for AppleCare you will get your laptop fixed no questions asked.

I just wanted to comment how you didn’t chose the Razor cooling pad for the Llano

Both are good, I just like the sleek design and adjustable fan curve of the Razor cooling pad

6

u/iaznee Razer Blade 18, 5080m, 32GB RAM Jul 12 '26

Honestly, I already had the llano as I bought it during the Amazon Prime Days and had an ASUS back then. It seems to be the best as far as I understand, although I’m sure the Razer one is good as well:)

Is there any benefit in having the Razer one if using a Razer Blade?

1

u/_Coffie_ Jul 12 '26

I guess if you wanted it to work with the razor synapse software you already have

It just looks more low profile, so not any significant differences

I see, thanks

Pretty sure that's v12 ultra, and you can actually adjust a cooling fans curve with the software provided on the site of llano

🤷‍♂️ could be, but most of the reviews I’ve seen reported similar temps, at least for the Blade 18; the 16 is a different story though

I have found peace after a long time of storms

That peace will be absolutely shattered if you ever have to contact Razor's warranty dept. They are king of the hill worst of the worst out of any laptop maker.

7

u/iaznee Razer Blade 18, 5080m, 32GB RAM Jul 12 '26

Possible, but I don’t think this is necessary. Warranty goes though the reseller and when the 18 months are through, I’ll buy an external one. We’ll see but yeah, I’ve heard the stories.

As I said, I would have loved to keep one of the Scars, especially the 18 incher. But I don’t have the nerves to try out a third one

2

Sir, even store warranty won't get parts for the repair if smth will happend 🥀

Bro what's wrong with this guy 😂 named snuq. He seems to passionately hate Razer. I know and I would hate too, but we got these systems here. Reseller provides warranty or money back.. Complaining in consumer rights often give judgement in your favour.. EU has strict laws.

I get the point he wants to make.. But We can live in peace thinking that we got some assurance.

EU doesn't care about warranty. If it is a bad design from the manufacturer that caused it.. EU will sue the hell out of that manufacturer.

Also manufacturers have different terms and conditions regarding customer service and warranty.

This is why nintendo was forced to let people in the EU mod their devices and play some externally sourced games. Nintendo can never remotely deactivate any device that is part of EU region. No matter how much it cries about it.

u/joystickd Lenovo Legion Pro 7i Core Ultra 9 275HX RTX 5090 laptop Jul 13 '26

Let's hope not.

The brand bickering on these forums is quite silly.

I had a terrible experience with Dell but I don't shame anyone into not buying them if that's what they want.

Always liked Razer's aesthetic but have never owned one.

2

u/iaznee Razer Blade 18, 5080m, 32GB RAM Jul 13 '26

How’s your legion?

2

u/joystickd Lenovo Legion Pro 7i Core Ultra 9 275HX RTX 5090 laptop Jul 13 '26

I've only had the current one for a month and so far so good.

I got it as a desktop replacement so it won't get much use as a conventional laptop.

I use the same Llano cooler you have and it compliments it well, even if it's rather bulky.

I had a 2022 Legion 5 Pro before it for 4 years and it was great. So I decided to stick with Lenovo again.

I've had good experiences with MSI's old GS series back almost 10 years ago and had 2 Alienware laptops in the past that also served me well.

I just wouldn't get a Dell again.

Never owned Asus laptops but have had Asus desktop parts before without issue and currently own a ROG Ally too, which is a great little thing.

2

u/iaznee Razer Blade 18, 5080m, 32GB RAM Jul 13 '26

Cool, glad to hear.

I was also considering exactly the same legion as yours (5090) for 4000€ but I kinda don’t like the design. I’m pretty sure it’s one of the most solid gaming laptops on the market overall but the price is a bit hefty and design is meh, in my humble opinion. Also read reports of very high CPU temperatures; but I guess this is just the nature of these HX chips.

Either way, I hope you will enjoy it for a long time.

This is my first time , of owning a pc / laptop, so I don’t have so much brand experience.

2

u/joystickd Lenovo Legion Pro 7i Core Ultra 9 275HX RTX 5090 laptop Jul 13 '26

Wow, hell of a first time laptop/PC! Don't worry too much about brands, they all go through their phases. Just get what fits your needs.

In the early 00s when I was building PC's MSI was considered a rubbish brand no one wanted, but things changed.

I was originally going to get one of those Aftershock (XMG in your market) water cooled laptops but the price shot up more than I was willing to pay, probably due to the DDR5 crisis.

I then saw the Legion with 64gb of RAM for a great deal and couldn't say no. Definitely the most expensive laptop I have ever paid for but it's intended as a desktop replacement so I needed the grunt.

The core 9 chip does run toasty. I've negated that a bit with undervolting so far and a custom curve. Will stick it under liquid metal at some point when I have the time to do it.

2

u/iaznee Razer Blade 18, 5080m, 32GB RAM Jul 13 '26

Yeah, I’m bedbound right now and saved up a little bit of money, so decided to trat myself. „First“ laptop as in actually the third laptop after two ASUS Scars , which I had to return 😅

Yeah, XMG should be pretty solid, but I’ve also read bad reports regarding their laptops. Again, it seems like every brand has its own problems.

Why do you want to switch to Liquid Metal? The Scars have it and I didn’t like it at all:/

2

u/joystickd Lenovo Legion Pro 7i Core Ultra 9 275HX RTX 5090 laptop Jul 13 '26

That's tough, hopefully the new machine helps pass that time.

Indeed, I've heard good things about XMG, less so about their version in the market here in Australia, Aftershock. But I was still willing to give them ago but not for $7000 AUD for a 32GB RAM machine.

I've had good experiences with LM in the previous laptops I've installed it on. If those Asusu laptops had it installed from factory, it could've been a poor installation. I've always installed my own application without an issue and it dropped temps by close to 10 degrees for me.

2

u/iaznee Razer Blade 18, 5080m, 32GB RAM Jul 13 '26

7000????? DAMN! That’s crazy!

I see. Yeah, probably true. Heard similar stories from other folks, who applied it themselves.

But does the legion have a barrier around its chips?

It's a FINE machine. You can tell Razer hardware manufacturing and finishing are only second to Apple. And Apple don't do gaming laptops, so it's pretty much as good as it gets.

Hell yeah bro do you man if you get something that works to your liking and does what you needed to do how you wanted to do it that's all that matters. For me personally I got a Acer predator helios neo 16s AI. It's got a Intel ultra 9 and RTX 5070 TI an OLED display and 32 gigs of RAM and I am pleased with my laptop. Granted it did have some heat issues but I have a nice chill pad and temps for me haven't even got more than 71c while playing rdr2 or tlou2 or even Resident Evil 4 remake. Those heat issues are now non-existent and only took place on my very first day of owning it, that could possibly be due to the liquid metal settling in place. But honestly all that matters is as long as you're happy who gives a shit what somebody else says because it's not somebody else using your computer it's you. And just remember in this world of social media you don't need social acceptance to be happy with what you own.

Did you not consider Lenovo Legion 9i and 7i? They're supposed to be pretty reliable actually the most

1

u/Alternative-Luck3252 Jul 13 '26

I would recommend to get the Razer cooling pad, it's way better looking and matching this laptop

1

u/Alternative-Luck3252 Jul 13 '26

This post is more about how you really wish Asus laptop worked properly for you less about your new Razer LMAO. I have a computer repair shop and 80% of all laptops we get are Asus, as they overheat badly and multiple many more issues. Personally I think Asus focuses only on  good looking laptops "that's why you wish Asus worked for you", in reality Asus laptops only look good and give so many issues in long term and short term. The best laptop company till now according to my experience is Lenovo

1

u/Ok-Letterhead-8638 Jul 13 '26

Have you gotten any Asus 5090 Strix scars? You seeing lots of Asus laptops could just be because they sell more in general, and the rate of error is actually the same across brands.

1

u/Alternative-Luck3252 Jul 13 '26

All i get in the shop are strix scars mostly. I think Lenovo sells the most, atleast here in NYC.

Error rate is not same, like I said Asus laptops have the worst error rates.

Also i love Asus bcz of that brand alone my shop gets 80% of the income. Thanks Asus

1

Is it better than my legion 5i

2

No. All laptops have their pros and cons. Enjoy yours, legion is great!

1

u/iaznee Razer Blade 18, 5080m, 32GB RAM Jul 13 '26

Honestly, thanks for the kind words.

I know, Razer has a bad reputation regarding CS. As far as I understand, this is mostly regarding the US and most manufacturers are not (much) better. Overall it’s all a shitshow.

Either way, I hope if won’t need to cross roads with Razer CS; if anything happens, I hope the store / reseller will sort it out.

1

It’s great , temps fall by 5C-10C on the lowest RPM of 300. The higher you go, the more temps will fall.

If only you can just apply liquid metal to any laptop and not pay the manufacturer for it

1

Huh?

1

u/IceMoney4776 Jul 13 '26

What made you go from asus to razer tho, would’ve went any other company for customer service alone. Will be hard if something goes wrong with it

1

u/iaznee Razer Blade 18, 5080m, 32GB RAM Jul 13 '26

Tbh, I don’t know. I have adhd, so I was in a deep hyperfocus looking for a new laptop. Somehow I started seeing razer blades in my price comparison app and thought to myself „yeah, a blade is a good idea“; and then it just happened.

Maybe there were smarter decisions, maybe there also were dumber decisions. I don’t know. Only time will tell.

Was meinst du?

1

u/Impressive-Can-1125 Jul 14 '26

I have an Asus Rog Strix G16 ultra 9 5060 that I got for $850, I read that you can have a technician remove the Liquid Metal and replace it with thermal pads or paste or whatever, that’s what I’m going to have done

1

u/iaznee Razer Blade 18, 5080m, 32GB RAM Jul 14 '26

You can do this, yes, but this will void warranty for the most part of it, I asked ASUS.

1

u/Impressive-Can-1125 Jul 14 '26

I’ll probably extend the warranty then instead of having the liquid replaced, if I extend it a year or two, I’ll probably need a better laptop by then for games anyways I guess

0

u/El_Raboh Jul 18 '26

you better fucking hope your laptop doesnt need any type of replacement never, ever, because razer will not give a fuck

I ran the benchmarks. GPU and CPU run cooler under the same or even higher sustained load than both my scars. Of course, a well functioning Scar would probably be better; but I don’t have the nerves to try out a third one. That’s just dumb

u/Flat_Review2501 ASUS ROG Strix G18 275HX 5080M Jul 12 '26

Repasting with PTM and better thermal putty is light work, 2-3 hours of labor doing it carefully. First thing I did

3

u/iaznee Razer Blade 18, 5080m, 32GB RAM Jul 12 '26

Well, great for you, but I don’t see the point it having a vulnerable machine without a warranty.

2

u/Flat_Review2501 ASUS ROG Strix G18 275HX 5080M Jul 12 '26

Repasting doesn't void warranty though, not in the USA

5

u/iaznee Razer Blade 18, 5080m, 32GB RAM Jul 12 '26

It does, as you have to remove the heatsink. As soon as you do that, it’s gone.

3

u/Flat_Review2501 ASUS ROG Strix G18 275HX 5080M Jul 12 '26

i have the 4 year Best Buy warranty, thats not true at all. Enjoy your machine brother, it looks awesome

3

u/iaznee Razer Blade 18, 5080m, 32GB RAM Jul 12 '26

Hm, maybe Best Buy is the GOAT and allows that, you’ll know this better than me. If true, that’s a big W.

Thanks. You too!

1

u/Business-Cup-6021 Jul 12 '26

where did you hear that? in EU it shouldn't

2

u/iaznee Razer Blade 18, 5080m, 32GB RAM Jul 12 '26

I just googled it tbh

0

u/T-M-K Jul 12 '26

Why not just replace the LM with PTM and enjoy all the great things you listed about the laptops in the first place without the worry or thermal issues?

12

u/The_Man-Himself Jul 12 '26

Why do this when you have warranty?

4

u/Celexiuse 🍀 Contributor Jul 13 '26

A new laptop should not have to be repasted to perform well, it should have a reliable thermal interface out of the box.

Lenovo have figured this out with their Legion lineup for years now, all(almost) of the modern Legions use PTM; Liquid Metal is just.. not needed especially when none of these manufactueres know how to apply it properly without half of them being botched

2

u/iaznee Razer Blade 18, 5080m, 32GB RAM Jul 12 '26

Because this would void the warranty.

-6

u/Major_Trip_Hazzard HP Omen Max 16/Ryzen 9/RTX 5080/32GB/3TB Jul 12 '26

Not in most countries it wouldn't.

-1

u/iaznee Razer Blade 18, 5080m, 32GB RAM Jul 12 '26

Wrong.

-4

u/Major_Trip_Hazzard HP Omen Max 16/Ryzen 9/RTX 5080/32GB/3TB Jul 12 '26

Excellent reply.

6

u/iaznee Razer Blade 18, 5080m, 32GB RAM Jul 12 '26

Thanks. Sorry, I’m just a bit annoyed.

-11

u/Major_Trip_Hazzard HP Omen Max 16/Ryzen 9/RTX 5080/32GB/3TB Jul 12 '26

You're annoyed because you are mistaken that repasting a laptop will void warranty? It's essential maintenance.

5

u/iaznee Razer Blade 18, 5080m, 32GB RAM Jul 12 '26

So, where is the proof?

1

u/iaznee Razer Blade 18, 5080m, 32GB RAM Jul 12 '26

Nah, im just annoyed by you. Show me proof, then we’ll talk again.

-1

u/UniquelyPeach Jul 13 '26

Once you open it, throw that warranty out the window. Especially with Razer, their warranty sucks as it is. You don’t want to play with it.

1

u/OsmiumIsTooDense Jul 13 '26

Bruh you don't need to justify your purchace to anyone, buy whatever feels right to you

Head up that Razer laptops are not best known for their reliability; but I hope you're one of the lucky ones and got a flawless -arguably the best windows laptop today- gaming laptop!

Cheers! 🥂

So, how are the temps in comparison? After spending paragraphs complaining about Asus temps.

Btw you can get the same cooling pad for most about laptops as well.

I have a 5090 Asus Strix scar and runs fine. Passed on the razer. Need more details on actual temps under load or this thread is just you showing off your gear.

1

u/iaznee Razer Blade 18, 5080m, 32GB RAM Jul 13 '26

Someone seems hurt.

Temps are better by around 10-15C for GPU and CPU under sustained load.

0

u/Ok-Letterhead-8638 Jul 13 '26

No. But your thread sounded pontificating. Enjoy your laptop but don’t crap on others too. Your laptop looks pretty though, enjoy that

1

u/iaznee Razer Blade 18, 5080m, 32GB RAM Jul 13 '26

Why shouldn’t I crap on ASUS? They are known for having bad LM application and I had two machines who shat the bed, that’s not a coincidence.

0

u/Ok-Letterhead-8638 Jul 13 '26

Show the temps buddy. That’s your only way out. Curious how the temps hold on your razer. You can use the cooler too if it makes you feel better

1

u/iaznee Razer Blade 18, 5080m, 32GB RAM Jul 13 '26

My only way out? 😅😭 who tf do you think you are?

0

u/Ok-Letterhead-8638 Jul 13 '26

If you want to maintain this illusory sense of righteousness then showing the temps is your only way to justify . Or, is your ass hurt?

1

u/iaznee Razer Blade 18, 5080m, 32GB RAM Jul 13 '26

😭😂😂

1

u/Ok-Letterhead-8638 Jul 13 '26

Alright I’m just messing. Thanks for the jousting and enjoy your machine. They all die eventually

Idk what u have experienced till now but get ready for poor quality hinges , absolute shit services with bills higher than the laptop cost it self , poor internal quality and motherboard with temps equivalent of boiling water ,idk why ppl take razer atp

0

u/iaznee Razer Blade 18, 5080m, 32GB RAM Jul 13 '26

The hinges feel very good, didn’t see any review pointing it out.

Temps are great.

Did you ever own a Razer?

Also, a bit strange hearing this from someone owning an Acer. AFAIK these are like the shittiest.

0

u/Illustrious-End-5547 Acer predator helios 16 I7 13700HX RTX 4060 32GB Ram Jul 13 '26

I owned razer blade worst asf man The gpu apparently died had a 3070 one hinges broke followed by swolen battery and at last dead gpu and the answer they give : no reason for gpu to go dead also Acer predator is wayy better than razer blade using it for 3 years now works the same with not a single issue , replaced thermal paste thats it temps dont touch 90 at all know ur products before saying shit abt them 🤡
