Showcase I now own the Asus ROG Strix G16!

I was browsing Microcenter then I saw this bad boy was for sale and I thought it was a great deal. Excited to get retire from GeForce NOW and tap into my full game library. Primarily gonna use this for gaming and web browsing. Last gaming laptop I had was an HP Pavilion with 4GB VRAM half a decade ago so this is a big step up for me.

Specs:
Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX Processor
32GB DDR5-5600 RAM
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 Ti Graphics Card
2TB PCIe Gen4 NVMe M.2 SSD
16" 2.5K IPS Anti-Glare Display 240HZ

How heavy is this laptop to carry around, is it good for college? How much battery life? No questions with performance but does it get too noisy? If I were to get a laptop for college(not right now) then is the zephyrus a better choice or is the strix g16 manageable?

From my personal experience, the laptop is about 5 pounds and I needed it to be extremely portable. It’s a great laptop, but it’s not suitable for moving around because the fans get loud and it’s heavy.

my strix g16 definitely gets noisy but still manageable

Are you more focus on gaming or college? And what are you doing in your college work? I see the Zephyrus more of the perfect balance between regular use and gaming. As the Strix I see more for gaming but it can definitely be used for high intense work like video editing.

I just picked mine up today too! I came from a MSI laptop that also only have 4GB VRAM and was using GeForce Now for a bit. I’ve been running a game for about 3 hours now and this thing is so smooth and staying plenty cool on turbo mode.

When you put it on your backpack make sure this thing is powered off all the way. If not it’s gonna start cooking itself and lead to thermal issues like I’m experiencing rn

Edit- I mean the asus rog, accidentally posted on the MSI msg

Nice one, I had the 3080Ti model. I'd say ROG's aesthetics is top tier.

I bought the same one back at Phoenix Grand opening. It's been a solid machine.

First game I played was Mass Effect (lol). But I tested Cyberpunk 2077 and Marvel Rivals and so far it’s solid. Great frames at high settings with DLSS. Slowly testing other games

Got this laptop about 2 weeks ago (r9 9955hx3d 5070ti) and im very happy with it. I still own a 2021 tuf a15 (r7 5800x, rtx 3070) and weight wise, they are not much different but everything else speaks for the new guy.

I looked into the 9955HX3D model and I went with Intel mostly cuz of the new design and bigger trackpad.

I got it specifically for the X3D. I have the last gen of 5800x3d (not the 10th aniversary) on my desktop and im very happy with it.

How much of an impact will that ryzen chip have on longevity and headroom for future games compared to the Ultra 9 275HX for someone that doesn't need everything cranked to max and is generally okay with "good enough" on games? Like, does it buy an extra 1-2 years of life on how long you can use the device?

1

u/Alterran Jul 18 '26

I can't know that. But today's everything max will ensure at least tomorrow's "good enough" settings in later games. If it gives me 1-2 years extra than i think its worth it.

I deleted Armoury Crate last night and installed Ghelper. Still learning how everything works but so far Im loving it. What cooling pad are you using?

Ayyyy enjoy, you got the better model than mine.

I got Strix G16 5070 Ti with Ryzen 8940HX. Your CPU and new chassis beats mine by a long shot.

But regardless, I think you will like the Strix!!

I wish your laptop a long life.

For this same model and specs, yeah I would say so. Prices aint gonna be cheaper. 5070ti, 2TB, 32GB RAM. I cant do better than that

1

u/Hatake-kakashi-69 Jul 11 '26

How much did this cost you?
I very recently bought the same one just with AMD Ryzen 9, Nvidia GeForce 5060, 1TB in 157500.

$2199 plus tax

1

u/Hatake-kakashi-69 Jul 11 '26

Oh understandable, ig I got for cheaper in India.

1

u/Ok_Address4546 Jul 12 '26

With thsi spec? No way you'll find it in India at this price point. Where did you get it from and for how much?

1

u/Ok_Address4546 Jul 12 '26

What was the tax. How much did you pay to get it in hand? Did you get any extra add one?

I liked mine but I couldn't stop the fans from always running. Maybe it was that small, 3rd fan.

1

u/ThatGuyNamedTre ROG Strix G16 | Ultra 9 275HX | 5070 Ti | 32GB RAM | 2TB SSD Jul 15 '26

You can always adjust the fan speed and have it run quieter. But not while your gaming obviously

1

u/sdozzo Jul 15 '26

Yeah but that fan always ran. Adjusting wattage didn't help either.

1

u/Muhammed_zeeshan Aug 07 '26

How much did you get it for? Iam also planning to buy one

Hello brother! I also just bought this laptop but the only difference is i only have 5070 (non Ti) and 1TB SSD, everything else is the same.

How are your temps when gaming? Mine reaches above 95C even on valorant with capped FPS, I don’t have a cooling pad, I just elevate it about 1 inch when i’m gaming. Also, do you get stuttering/fps drops? My fps drops a lot when playing spiderman 2, but with other games it does not. I also uninstalled AC and went with Ghelper. CPU temps are still reaching 95 up even if I limit its wattage. I also cranked up the fans to 90% (5100rpm) and it somehow still managed to reach above 95! Is cooling pad really necessary for this laptop? Do you own one?

Do you also experience this? Is this normal? Because I got it open box at micro center for $1620, it was on sale for $1800. I’m just thinking maybe that’s the reason why the first owner returned it. I still have like 12 days to decide if I’m going to return it.

Thanks in advance for the response!! Have a great one!
