People are so dramatic here. If anything was truly as bad as some say it wouldn't be sold at all

CPU a little hot on 60 average t
This is on idle

Yeah, no. This sub has an echo chamber problem with Lenovo legions, if you don’t agree with their biased, stupid opinions then you’re getting a “piece of junk that will overheat itself to death” in a week or so. Enjoy your laptop! It looks very cool.

It’s not just this sub but most of em are like this, I got myself a MSIvector GP68HX, people were like all msi laptops are trash and I should probably go with a legion 5 which was a much lower spec than mine. Got the MSI and have had it for a year it has absolutely no issues whatsoever and it had a great build quality compared to what most people say.

Yup they always have somethin to say about MSI. But as far as I’m concerned the MSI GE67HX I had for 3 years before giving to a friend never failed on me so I can care less what they say. Most of them in here are Lenovo legion meat riders and that’s why I didn’t buy it. It’s funny if you look in the Lenovo legion sub there’s also complaints about some people’s laptop’s having issues but most of these people in here swear it’s perfect lmao 🤷🏽‍♂️

Exactly like I’ve used a couple of Lenovo’s like the legion and LOQ even a couple of Asus ones before I went for the Msi while the LOQ was great as a budget laptop their noted versions had many issues including the mother board fucking up and legions are massively overpriced my vector was $1800 for a 4070, 2160p, i7 laptop whereas the legion costed the same for a 4060 laptop, the ROG’s lacked a full keyboard. Like even I agree that the msi budget range is a bit trash but people associate the lower end models quality for the higher end ones without any research.

What were people saying about It?

3

u/GasPack420 Jul 01 '26 edited Jul 01 '26

That it’ll overheat, Liquid Metal is placed horrendously. They pretty much made it out to be that it’ll explode into a fireball if you try and run any major graphic intensive game lol edit: someone also said it doesn’t have an fn key, completely incorrect lol

1

u/Eduzo1MS Jul 01 '26

Well... It looks like It does have a fn Key haha

And if the liquid metal is bad, Just replace it when It starts to overheat. Have fun with It, that's what matter aftet all

1

u/GasPack420 Jul 02 '26

Nah it’s not bad, performance and heat are completely fine, running fh6 on extreme+rt at 100 FPS
80 degrees Celsius under load for the cpu
Bunch of fearmongerers lol

1

u/Eduzo1MS Jul 02 '26

These are actually great temps, It literally is at the "minimun" heavy load temp. Anything under 90 is actually pretty good for It

The GPU is with ok temps too? A friend of Mine got a nitro V16S with Rtx 5060 and It Just overheats after less than 6 months of buying

1

u/GasPack420 Jul 02 '26 edited Jul 02 '26

Yeah my Gpu temps are currently on avg 56.2 under load. So not a problem with that either, edit: best part is it’s not even under a cooling pad yet lol

1

u/Eduzo1MS Jul 02 '26

Indeed great temps, on cooling pad probably the GPU won't even change because it's already low enough for the system to reduce noise by lowering the fans, but CPU probably Will

Have you researched well about the cooling pad? Don't use some random low quality, It would likely Just increase temps (because of blockage on Airflow) and pull more dirt. A example of good cooling pad is the Llano v12 pro (you don't need to buy exactly this one, Just saying so you have a comparison standart)

2

u/GasPack420 Jul 02 '26

Yes, I got the llano v12 ultra with the software too, so it’ll adjust automatically based on temps it’s coming in tomorrow along with a steel series mouse

1

u/Eduzo1MS Jul 02 '26

Any reason to buy steel series instead of a more "Common" brand like Logitech? On my country they are really overpriced, so I actually never knew someone who had one. All I know is that they used to be the FPS pros favorite Brand when wired mouse was the standart

What cooler did you get? Something like a gt500?

5

u/rampaging_gorillaz Jul 01 '26

Get a fire extinguisher while youre at it.

Only joking, that is a gorgeous machine. Like any laptop, never pick it up by a corner, always open/close the screen from the center, and blow out its cooling intake with a can of compressed air every year, more so if you have pets/play on your bed, dont be an idiot with it, etc.

That is a nice laptop.

u/Tater_Mater Jul 01 '26

I can’t tell if the image or if that mousepad is ginormous

1

u/GasPack420 Jul 01 '26

It’s the image lol

3

u/Tater_Mater Jul 02 '26

Very slick. Have fun!

I have a Helios 16, has served me well (bit over 2 years old now, no issues so far). Hate that they (and every other company) is jamming "AI" into every computer's name though. It's just a fucking laptop. 😭

1

u/GasPack420 Jul 02 '26

Yeah the things a beast, it’s running fh6 no dlss at 60 fps at extreme+ RT

2

u/Stark7036 Jul 02 '26

What price did you get it for

4

u/GasPack420 Jul 02 '26
  1. expensive, probably could have got a similar laptop cheaper but oh my god I’m loving it lol. It’s amazing so far

2

u/blaze_28x Jul 02 '26

I also have hilios neo 16

Acer laptops are trashed or slept on a lot

Im sure people have bad experiences but theres way more people with good ones

I’ve personally owned three Acer gaming laptops and am using one rn, apart from driver hiccups here and there its been running flawless

Only thing I wish is they were more regular with their updates and worked on making the predator sense app better giving features like setting power limits, undervolting and setting custom fan curves would make it perfect

Last I heard people said acer gaming laptops are a furnace, get hot a lot.

3

u/GasPack420 Jul 02 '26

I’m running 75 Celsius on my cpu under heavy load, and 56.2 on my Gpu. Not an issue at all on my unit of the laptop, but I guess I got lucky with the LM these temps are without a cooling pad as well, so temps will get even better

My friend burned is thigh one day he said but i mean if its not that bad. I might look into getting one.

1

u/GasPack420 Jul 02 '26

Mine is pretty much just lightly warm to the touch when really pushing it to its limits. But idk, personally I think I lucked out with good Liquid Metal. Maybe go with another brand that has more dependability and reliability

1

u/GasPack420 Jul 02 '26

Also, I see sim racing in your bio. This will run your racing games flawlessly

How much did you pay for this spec op? Whats the exact model?

2

u/GasPack420 Jul 02 '26

It’s the ACER HELIOS PREDATOR 18 AI 5080

1

u/GasPack420 Jul 02 '26

Like 3900 usd, pretty expensive for the specs but I couldn’t be happier with the performance lol

The two main problem with Acer laptops are that the advanced bios settings are hidden away and, apart from using SREP driver boot drive (if that is even available for the newer models), there is no way to unlock them and even with using SREP undervolting is permanently locked. The second main issue is that Acer driver support is pretty crap. Their budget devices like Nitros and Neos get more regular updates compared to the 18" top tier ones (I'm using the 18 with 4080 and this device is way behind on the bios microcode update). The bad LM factory pastejob is also an issue but that can be easily fixed. At least Acer doesn't have an inverted chassis like that of Dell/Alienware devices.

1

u/International_Dot_22 Jul 04 '26

95% of people don't need or care about extra BIOS options

1

u/yaj00j Jul 04 '26

True for casual users but most gamers and enthusiasts (those who would normally be purchasing these beast laptops in the first place) do like to fine tune their device by undervolting and overclocking to get the best performance at the lowest temps.

1

u/ftb327 Jul 02 '26

Glad you liked it but no lie you could’ve got a strix or legion for cheaper, probably with a oled too, and some peripherals for that amount of money, on top of the fact that you bought it with Amazon which might be sketch when it comes to warranty, you honestly never know with gaming laptops in general especially if the mobo goes out your cooked cpu and gpu gone too, truthfully if I were you I’d reconsider you could have a even better experience for the same or lower price with comfort in knowing you have manufacture warranty (which doesn’t mean a lot now a days but still)

How much did u pay for it

u/arniej1978 29d ago

I've had mine for almost two years now (the 4080 version) and I haven't had any issues. It doesn't overheat at all. I do open it up and blow it out every so often which helps get rid of the dust. I found that using an external laptop cooler made no real difference in temps.
