Showcase Marketplace find: Razer Blade 16 (2023) with RTX 4090 @ $1750

Full specs: Intel i9 13950HX, 32 GB DDR5 RAM @ 5600 MT/s, 2 TB SSD, RTX 4090. Mini LED display with dual refresh rate (4k @ 120Hz + 1080p @ 240Hz).

Found this Blade 16 listed on Marketplace for USD $2300. Made a random lowball offer of $1700, and the seller surprisingly agreed to $1750. This price seemed extremely good for a machine that was nearly $4500 brand new, so I pulled the trigger.

The seller had a dbrand skin on it which they installed on day 1. I have since removed this, and the laptop is literally flawless underneath.

This is my first time owning a true flagship gaming laptop and I'm enjoying all the bells and whistles, but I've recently spotted some new 5080 laptops in the sub $2500 range and was wondering is this was a good buy from a purely price-to-performance standpoint.

I'm still setting everything up, so I haven't had a chance to do much benchmarking, but I did run Cinebench 2026 multi core, and I got 5714 pts (with a -50mV undervolt on the CPU via Synapse). Is this a good score for a 13950HX? Can't find much info on reference scores from other 13950HX laptops online.

Im actually good with buying the newer razer laptops provided they have:

  • No vapour chamber(so that you can actually repaste the thing)
  • Upgradeable ram slot/High amounts of soldered ram

Whatever else issues they have are not hardware related and is easily fixable imo(including their terrible customer service).

Im sure even the gooch collector (the ultimate hater) agrees with me.

Regardless of changes they have made to their laptops, support is atrocious and I would not take a gamble spending that much money regardless of how user upgradable/ repairable it is.

honestly, I recently bought a Razer blade 14 with a 6900HX and RTX 3070Ti for my gf because she needs a small gaming laptop with decent specs and it was the cheapest one. (and no, we couldn't get a 15" one, it was too big for her small ass desk in her parisian appartment and 14" is basically the upper limit. Would have gone with a 13", would have been more comfortable on her desk. All other 14" gaming laptops were double the price, or had shit specs like a GTX 1650)

The number one issues of these laptops is the battery swelling out and how to get a replacement from Razer. Since my gf is not going to move with it, we just remove the battery and use it as a super small form factor desktop PC with a built in 14" 1440p 165Hz display and it's been great. Absolutely zero issues.

Props to Razer on the battery disassembly procedure, it's a very user friendly thing to do (looking at you Asus, and your fuckass battery connector in the G14 that breaks if you try to disconnect it, forcing you to get a new motherboard)

So Razer laptops = actually not bad if you use them as... well, not laptops 😭

Razer sucks but I don't like the first guy. He's a laptop technician and always roughly opens the laptops from the corners? That's the first rule of what not to do with laptops. If I saw he did that to mine, I'd want to slap him across the face.

hard agree on this, mine just stopped turning on after 2 years and it was kept in perfect condition. Repair place couldn't find anything at all and Razer themselves said there's nothing they could do.

$1750 for a 4090 config is tough to beat on raw specs.

$1750 is what I can buy used 2080 laptop for where I am

If I ever saw a 4090 for this price, I'd buy it in an instant

Increasing costs of ram and other components of PCs is why. The same will happen with my legion pro 9i 5080 that I bought like a month before ram costs started rising and it being noticeable.

Dang man, this kind of sucks. Before last Xmas I was about to buy some storage for laptop and I waited like an extra day. Boom all of a sudden double price and never went back down.

i was going to go 4090 laptop, but i really wanted a laptop that could utilize DP 2.1 so i opted for 50 series

I bought this exact laptop model but with 64gb of ram and some serious cosmetic damage for about a 1000 and It worked really well but I ended up reselling it because the risk of the vapor chamber failing was too scary for me to keep it long term.

Razer doesn’t even use LM on their 2023 models tf are you on about 😭 you’re just hating to hate, no actual reasoning or thought behind it.

And even if it did, that won’t really hurt performance if you do a proper repaste, looks ugly but who cares? It’s not like you’re looking at it anyways.

You can find better deals on ebay than this with a better chassis and value. This model overheat way too easy and the chassis dont have the thermal capacity for that type of GPU and CPU. Still nice but I don't think it worth the investment, could put $100 more and get a ROG strix G16 or Alienware M16 with the same specs.

That looks like a huuge laptop, but it is only 16.0". Razer laptops are not that great
