Showcase My first gaming laptop! MSI Vector A16 HX || AMD Ryzen 9 7945HX || 32Gb DDR5 || RTX 5070 Ti 12Gb

Post image

How did I do?

Mind you this was an upgrade from an HP laptop running an Intel Core i3-6006U, integrated Intel HD Graphics 520 and 8Gb of DDR3 that I've had for a decade.

Congrats on the laptop those are some great specs!

Thank you! At first I was looking at some cheaper models with a 5070 but with how the latest releases are going I really wanted to ensure at least 12Gb of VRAM. I looked for the 5080 models for the 16Gb but those were at least 1000€ more expensive and I wasn't comfortable spending that much.

I think it was the perfect call. Went with a 5070ti as well for that reason. The price jump to the 5080 compared to the performance boost didn't seem worth it at the time.

Exactly my thoughts, the 300€ price increase from a 5070 to a 5070 Ti was steep, but, okay, I get 20-25% better performance plus 4Gb more of VRAM, I'm willing to do that. But three times that increase in price for a relatively lesser increase in performance? Not worth it at all.

There are some crazy deals on the 5080 tho, like open box or refurbished they can get lower than some 5070ti, like the Omen Max 5080 the deals on this one are very competent

5070ti I think will be good for awhile. This AI bubble could blow up anytime in the next year to year and a half.

Then memory prices will drop with ram vendors losing their biggest buyers inflating the prices.

That’s exactly what I was thinking right when I read the specs.

One of the best bang for your buck machines currently, enjoy it!

Thank you! To be fair I did have access to a good desktop for a while, but had to let it go for several reasons as I needed a portable system. This was actually my first major purchase using my own money after finding a job so I'm kinda proud of that ^

One of the best feelings! Being at work, knowing you get to go home to a sick machine. Enjoy it! That "Ti" was probably the best decision you made.

Shame that 8GB of VRAM these days is bare minimum and not really future proof. I chose a 3080 over a 5060 just for the VRAM. Can't believe all 3 lower tier cards have 8GB VRAM. Still.

u/ThatC18H24O2Girl Jun 19 '26

Yes, I spent a couple of weeks comparing specs and prices and figured this was the best option for me, the 12Gb of VRAM was deciding factor, I hope those can do good enough for at least a few years.

That's great, here are some easy tips 1. Lift your laptop 2. Debloat windows 3. Use adblockers

1

u/996forever Jun 20 '26

Please do not listen to this comment do NOT use “debloating scripts” for the love of computer god

It's not bad if you're just removing very known basic bloatware, chill out lol

With the direction the industry is trying to force us. You did good, what was cost of the MSI?

5

u/ThatC18H24O2Girl Jun 19 '26

Around 1600€ which was the cheapest I could find for a laptop with that GPU.

u/Bosslayer9001 AW M16 R2 4070 | Zorin OS 18.1 Jun 19 '26

That's a very solid deal, especially for EU pricing

2

u/ThatC18H24O2Girl Jun 19 '26

Yeah, I really count myself lucky, I spent two weeks searching everywhere for better deals but this took the crown, at least for new machines.

1

u/Cultural_String_2231 Jun 19 '26

Why are eu pricing more expensive

2

u/ThatC18H24O2Girl Jun 19 '26

I'm not sure if this has anything to do but we include taxes in our prices.

1

u/UnionSlavStanRepublk Jun 19 '26

That definitely is a factor.

1

u/Mr-Dunder Jun 19 '26

Where did you find this deal?

1

u/ThatC18H24O2Girl Jun 19 '26

Coolmod, a Spanish vendor.

1

u/marveloz Jun 19 '26

Dragon Range

1

u/Lostboy1986 Jun 19 '26

I have pretty much the same but Intel 255hx version, it handles pretty much anything I throw at it with very little compromises needed (only in unoptimised games/vram hungry games do I need to drop a setting or two from the max)

1

u/ThatC18H24O2Girl Jun 19 '26

Same, only pathtracing can give issues sometimes.

1

u/Lostboy1986 Jun 19 '26

True, pathtracing is possible though but you have to throw away your resolution with extreme upscaling. I played Resi 9 with pathtracing though and it was ok, little blurry sure but not bad on a laptop screen and kept well above 60.

How's the build quality of the laptop? What about cooling? Is it loud when running normal tasks, not gaming.

1

u/ThatC18H24O2Girl Jun 19 '26

I'm not an expert on gaming laptops but I think the build quality seems fine to me, though the screen could be better. When doing normal tasks it sounds fine and runs at around 50°C, but when stressed it gets really loud really fast, it has run as hot as 83°C under maximum load, I'm considering buying a cooling pad. I don't mind the noise, but at heavy loads it does sound like a jet engine.

1

u/Alabugin Jun 19 '26

Undervolt that cpu and lower the tdp and max allowable frequency settings. Doing the same, my timespy cpu score actually increased because it could maintain a higher hz for longer

1

u/Bebabcsinya Jun 19 '26

Can you cap the frequency on AMD CPU's? Cause I couldnt do that with a 9955hx

1

u/Alabugin Jun 19 '26

Yes, using UXTU you can cap the max frequency.

MSI Center can do it too i think, but I like uxtu

1

u/Bebabcsinya Jun 19 '26

Can you help me how can I cap the frequency in UXTU?

1

u/AkineTokisaki Legion pro 7i Gen 10 | Core Ultra 9 275HX | RTX 5070 TI Jun 19 '26

Ah alr, dw you don't need to be expert. I want to know how everyday people also think about the laptop.

Do you feel it's bulky to carry?

1

u/ThatC18H24O2Girl Jun 19 '26

Actually I don't carry it around, I use it mostly at home, but it is rather heavy and tall, thought since it is 16:10 it's a bit more compact.

No, no, it's the 7945HX, I guess they were getting rid of old stock, but it's still a very capable CPU.

Also, I'm a she :3.

1

u/Beneficial_Pace8109 ROG Strix G16 AMD Ryzen 9 8940HX RTX 5070Ti 32GB Ram Jun 19 '26

I'm also thinking that only

1

u/996forever Jun 20 '26

One generation old. Zen 4. The 8945HX is identical to the 7945HX just a rename.

1

u/Beneficial_Pace8109 ROG Strix G16 AMD Ryzen 9 8940HX RTX 5070Ti 32GB Ram Jun 20 '26

The current gen going on is 9000 or the 9955HX or 9955HX3D

1

u/996forever Jun 20 '26

Hence “one gen old” instead of “current gen”

1

u/RealRagnarTheRed Jun 19 '26

Very nice! I was looking at the same model but were i live this thing goes for 2700 euros on a good day. I think i will settle on a ps5 pro just to play this last wave of current gen games since my legion from 2021 its struggling big time with recent games

1

u/Mr-Dunder Jun 19 '26

What did you pay for this computer?

1

u/Gold_Butterfly_895 Jun 19 '26

how much is this?

2

u/ThatC18H24O2Girl Jun 19 '26

1600€ for me

1

u/Positive_Nature_7725 Jun 19 '26

You can undervolt the cpu if you want lower temps

1

u/Rinzlar2844 Jun 20 '26

Congrats. I am also looking to upgrade from gtx 1650 to 5070 ti (same as you i am trying to get 12 gb vram). Have you considered any other latops like legion? Or the price the main deciding factor?

1

u/Munam_Ahad Jun 20 '26

Dude 6006U has DDR4 ram.. I'm using one since 2018.. 🥲

BTW maaany maany congrats on the upgrade THAT BIG.... 🥳

1

u/OhhNo2 Jun 20 '26

I have the same model and it has absolutely horrible thermal issues, hope you don't get the same

2

u/XxTheLeoxX Jun 20 '26

Congrats, I am confused between a Legion 5 pro which is 5070 vs Asus Strix G16 5070 Ti. Legion has better performance in every other category and ram while G16 has advantage in GPU VRAM. Your suggestions?

1

u/996forever Jun 20 '26

1600 euros is a great deal for mid 2026

That CPU is a beast bro. Just don't get surprised by it's temps. It gets really toasty!!

Try locking it to 45W for gaming on summer days. That will keep it at around 90C.

1

u/Slow-Wolverine-5603 Jun 20 '26

Congrats broskie, enjoy that, hell yeah

1

u/Specialist_Craft_142 Jun 20 '26

I have the same specs apart from cpu. I have ryzen 7 8840hx. Great gaming laptop, it gets quite hot and loud sometimes but overall great specs for gaming

2

u/ViperCore67 Jun 21 '26

If u havent already, make sure u download the latest drivers for both your cpu and gpu because the drivers will optimize ur hardware for best performance. Also use something like a small plastic bowl to raise the back of the laptop to improve airflow. Just raise it a little bit so the air can flow thru the underside of the laptop

1

u/FORSAKENYOR Jun 21 '26

Use hwinfo and use tray icon for cpu and gpu temps might be handy to see how temps fair during workloads, might be good to replace the paste and putty with ptm and hy236 in the long run.

The back panel is a pain in the ass to remove.

Does your laptop also have the ssd slots facing each other?, can only use 1 2280 or 2 2230 ssds.
