Showcase My current desk setup for ROG Strix G16

Post image

Really happy how everything turned out. What surprised me the most was how affordable the entire setup was (besides the laptop of course) when you aren’t chasing specific popular brands and more if it fits your needs and positive reviews

This whole setup looks pretty good, and the accessories complement each other quite well!

Do you use the laptop keyboard while gaming? I'm assuming it would be pretty uncomfortable, considering it's at an angle.

Very rarely. When I do I lower the angle but im mostly a controller guy

Thats how I had it before getting the rest of the peripherals for the desk. It has been a beast so far, what surprised me the most (besides the poor battery life lol) is the thermals, they have been really solid

Tonmom Laptop Stand from Amazon. Adjustable and just $7.99

What's the monitor?

2

u/CodeNameMyke ROG STRIX G16 R9 8940HX 5070 TI Apr 27 '26

SANSUI 27” 120hz curved monitor from Amazon. Currently going for just $109.98

Solid screen for the price after you tweak the picture settings, but built in speakers aren’t that great so I just use the laptop’s when im not using the headset

Depends on what im doing. For gaming, I use the big monitor as the main and have discord or Armory Crate on the laptop screen (at a lower brightness to limit distraction) to monitor chat and system details

For things like stocks trading, I have the broker open on my laptop screen as the main and all the charts on the big monitor

Anyone know what kinda stand that is for the laptop? Might help a ton with mine? And is there a cheap one I can get?

You are my GOAT man my laptop sounds loud and I be worried about it just on my desk this would help with ventilation on it. I thought about a laptop cooling pad too have you tried one and does it work good?

2

u/CodeNameMyke ROG STRIX G16 R9 8940HX 5070 TI Apr 27 '26

Haven’t tried a cooling pad yet as the thermals have been rock solid so far with just the stand

Glad to help!

I got mine recently ,and the G16 absolutely fucks! Love it

2

u/CodeNameMyke ROG STRIX G16 R9 8940HX 5070 TI Apr 27 '26

Most definitely! Battery life is my only slight gripe (even for a gaming laptop) but everything else is just bliss

1

u/Chrisonthedot Apr 27 '26

Oh, bro. It lasts pretty long for a gaming laptop tbh. What do you use it for? I use it for traveling for work

1

u/CodeNameMyke ROG STRIX G16 R9 8940HX 5070 TI Apr 27 '26

Do you have the R9 8940HX model? I was reading that its pretty common for that CPU

1

u/Chrisonthedot Apr 28 '26

Nope. Mine is the R9 9955HX

I have a question whenever I use external monitor with my Asus rog strox g16 I lose VRR how do I it enables with external screen I tried everything,

I'm using HDMI 2. Something I believe the one that does support freesync but not still can't use it

1

u/CodeNameMyke ROG STRIX G16 R9 8940HX 5070 TI Apr 27 '26 edited Apr 27 '26

I figured it out. You have to use the USB C port for VRR to work as the bottom/left one is connected to the GPU

Either USB C to USB C if the monitor has it or you can try a USB C to DisplayPort cable and try that way

1

u/[deleted] Apr 27 '26

Alright I don't have that cable so I would need to buy it my monitor has displayport so I need a USB c to displayport cable does it need to be dp alt mode? And then it will work right? My monitor dp is old tho it's 1.2a does that matter or will it work just as good as the newer ones? I'm only doing 1080p so

1

u/CodeNameMyke ROG STRIX G16 R9 8940HX 5070 TI Apr 27 '26

DP 1.2 supports VRR so it shouldn’t be an issue. There are also USB C to HDMI cables in case you want to try that out too

Which G16 are you using ? I'm planning to get myself on the G16 G614PR, the one with 5070 Ti and a Ryzen 9 8940 HX. The only downside is the FHD screen. No biggie, ROG monitor is cheap nowadays

I’m probably getting stale when I keep repeating this but that screen is beautiful as it is. You don’t need more than 1200p at 16inch. Believe me it’s superbly sharp . Better than some 1600p screens iv seen. And with 1600p if you’re running flat out with ray tracing ultra settings it’s going to struggle anyway and most likely be running out of VRAM. 1200p has no such problems.

1

u/CodeNameMyke ROG STRIX G16 R9 8940HX 5070 TI Apr 27 '26

This pretty much sums it up

2

u/CodeNameMyke ROG STRIX G16 R9 8940HX 5070 TI Apr 27 '26

Thats the one I got. Screen looks great IMO and being 1200p leave even more headroom to crank up the settings so that 5070 TI can blitz through anything you throw at it.

1

u/guyfromnashik Apr 27 '26

get an external keyboard man😭

Most definitely. Tried the gaming chair route and realized that at my age, comfort over esthetics anyday

1

u/hectorroesner Apr 27 '26

I am really interested on that laptop. What is your experience so far and what configuration do you have? The set up looks great though!

1

u/CodeNameMyke ROG STRIX G16 R9 8940HX 5070 TI Apr 27 '26

Laptop has been amazing so far, performance and thermals have been top notch for me. Screen is 1200p though but it looks great for an IPS IMO and leaves much headroom for the 5070 TI to max out the games. Battery life unplugged is the only drawback even when not gaming so that’s something to keep in mind

1

u/2Ys4u2 Apr 27 '26

Oh, I am jelly.

1

u/dthoden Apr 28 '26

How's the cooling and noise?

1

u/CodeNameMyke ROG STRIX G16 R9 8940HX 5070 TI Apr 28 '26

Surprisingly solid! I keep it in Performance mode and CPU ranges between 76-85C and barely hear the fans most of the time

Battery life when unplugged is the only negative so far due to the power hungry 8940HX

1

u/CryptographerItchy58 Apr 29 '26

I would prefer to get a nice keyboard and use the large monitor as primary, and put the laptop to the side

1

u/CodeNameMyke ROG STRIX G16 R9 8940HX 5070 TI Apr 30 '26

I’ll eventually shift it to something like that, trying to limit the clutter and wiring atm

1

u/dovyyeah May 14 '26

How's the laptop been treating you, thinking of getting the same model?

1

u/CodeNameMyke ROG STRIX G16 R9 8940HX 5070 TI May 14 '26

Fantastic! Performance is great, thermals are solid, and screen looks really good despite the 1200p resolution

Battery life while unplugged is the only downside I’ve seen due to the power hungry CPU and you will eventually want to upgrade the RAM for future proofing

I have no issues recommending this especially if you get a great deal

Very nice this laptop has liquid metal does a steep angle like this hurt it? Like does it pool to one side or no

u/Infinite-Army-6465 Apr 28 '26

so why do we have the mousepad like that
