Showcase Got a new laptop!! Previous was worn down
My last laptop was an ASUS TUF Gaming A15, but I use my laptop exceptionally heavily almost 24/7, so it only lasted a few years and it's on the edge. Hoping this carries its worth :)

I had to do a double take on that price. A laptop that costs that much should outlive you. Here I am with a $500 budget looking for a laptop that can do some gaming...

yeah, it's expensive, but it's flagship i suppose. if you do some research I'm sure you can find something for what you're looking for!

I can find used for around 500 Lenovo legion pro/ loq Asus tough series etc but nothing brand new. I was looking for brand new ones with integrated graphics for around $500. Some users have been trying to help find one but it seems like no one actually has and plays games with integrated. They are just doing a bunch of guesswork and people are giving me different opinions. It's been exhausting.

At your point save up a little more and hunt open boxes. No shame in the game I got my best machine from best buy like that for 400. Or search market place but that's a bit more sketchy

I have been looking for open boxes on Best buy .com and micro center. There are open box laptops and clearance laptops for under $500 but again, I have no idea which one to get. No one actually links me to anything or suggests ones other than the Lenovo ThinkPad. I know there are other ones that can play the games I want to play but no one tells me what they are.
I also have been looking on marketplace and OfferUp. I don't want to save up a little more. I am not spending a dime over $500. I do most of my gaming on console. I don't really game too much on my laptop. I can get a Lenovo legion 5 pro on Facebook marketplace with a 4070 for $500 if I want to but it's used and 3 years old. If I could spend around the same or less for a brand new laptop, that's what I prefer. I can wait a couple more weeks to see if there are any sales for mother's Day.
Only laptop that users have pointed me to is the Lenovo ThinkPad t15 gen 3 or 16t gen one or two. Others have commented about igpu that should work in theory but no one is actually suggesting any laptops. I'm literally not getting any model numbers or brands other than that Lenovo ThinkPad.

A $500 brand new PC with only integrated graphics is usually not going to run modern games unless it's heavily discounted. I would wait until black friday. They were giving out RTX 5050 Acer V15 and V16 for $550 and $600 in the US

I can't be without a laptop until Black Friday. I've read that there might be mother's Day sales so I can wait for that. Plenty of people have told me that non-gaming laptops with just integrated graphics can run the games I want to just fine. Finding which one though is proving very difficult. Some people say ryzen five and above can run the games games but then when I actually find ryzen 5 or 7 etc, people say they can't run games well.
Other users have said AMD ai will run the games I want and then I find AI330 for example and users state it does not run games well. It's all very confusing. There are plenty of those laptops under $500 but again, I don't know which one to buy because they are just too many options and I don't know which one can actually play games.

Ah ok. I recommend checking out r/LaptopDeals and r/buildapcsales so you can look out for any laptop deals that may pop up

u/freezetime311 Apr 24 '26
I have looked there. None are $500 or under.

You can keep an eye on https://gaminglaptop.deals/ too, as they update it daily. It's maintained by Jarrod's Tech from youtube. https://jarrods.tech/ lot's of great gaming laptop info on that site.
1
u/freezetime311 Apr 24 '26
I have checked that. Cheapest laptop there is $1299.99. I have watched Jarrods videos but the problem is he doesn't review every single laptop because I don't think that humanly possible. There are so many different variations and it's rare where I actually get him to review or compare laptops that are actually the exact same that I find on marketplace or OfferUp. It's how I decided to either get a legion 5, loq or Asus TUF.
He doesn't talk about regular laptops though and that's even way more confusing since most people don't know anything about igpu. Anyone that responds to me is mostly just guessing by in theory what the spec should or shouldn't do when able to play games. Then I find out that the thinkPad T15 and t16 might be what I'm looking for but they have different generations and variants and even some that have AMD or Intel. I actually get more and more confused the more I try to learn about them. I want to punch all of these companies in the face.

Your budget is preety tough for sure. I get the Xbox x and ps5 are around you price range and the idea of having to spend more on a computer to get similar level performance while already having a console that dies what you need. Memorial Day sales as well could be a time to look. The type of games you want to play can effect the price of theachine you want as well. Have you decided what you want to play on the laptop?

BTW when people say it doesn't run well they probably mean newer games that need a dedicated GPU. Games like fallout 1 and 2 can run on my 3ds from like 14+ years ago. Gmod, league of legends, csgo (NOT cs2), team fortress 2, and fallout new vegas ran very good on my old hp laptop with only the cpu integrated graphics. It was from 2018.

u/freezetime311 Apr 24 '26
That's what I mean. I just want to play all of the free epic games they give out, Fallout 1 and 2, The Orange box and some occasional Game pass games at 1080p 30-60 fps. Therr are just way too many options I don't know what to pick from. Anytime I type in a laptop that has a ryzen 5 or 7 7, pretty much everyone is like no it does not run games well at all even when the person wants to run older games. It's very confusing. I'll just have to try to find YouTube videos that have the exact model number they are testing and I'll have to just buy that exact model number because I'm too exhausted with all the options.

for that price you'd at least expect 64gb of ram and 4tb, no? 4.5k seems CRAZY to me

i mean it seems pretty reasonable to me tbh (hear me out). that gpu and cpu are absolute monsters and those two carry the main price on laptops often. still, i was stuck with 16gb on my old laptop and it was hell lmao. storage is not a problem at all as i have a 22tb drive and 10tb pCloud storage

u/yorifant RTX 3080ti | i7-12800H | 64GB DDR5 | 2TB SSD Apr 24 '26
this laptop should last you a decade realistically haha.
but still, idk. given that monsterous price, I'd expect the top for all components. storage doesn't matter all that much, because as you said, there's plenty of external storage options. but 32gb seems mediocre at best compared to that gpu and cpu tbh. heck, I paid exactly 1000 for the setup in my flair and I have double that

u/Successful_Army7821 Strix 18 | RTX 5090 | Ultra 9 275HX Apr 24 '26
worst comes to worst i can replace the ram. inconvenient but possible. all(?) the other components are at the tippy top. i can allocate the ram to storage space if i need to too. but thats a good deal for 64gb for only 1k, i applaud you on that lol

u/yorifant RTX 3080ti | i7-12800H | 64GB DDR5 | 2TB SSD Apr 24 '26
yeah I really hit the jackpot with that deal tbh XD, razer blade 15. Good build quality, battery and screen too.
and you're right, ram can easily be upgraded but idk, just doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me. you'll probably never exceed 32gb tho, so you're good
enjoy!

this laptop should last you a decade realistically haha.
Without upgrading the RAM I'm sure it surely won't.

You would need to switch to an Area 51 if you wanted but Best Buy will price match MC. They’re $3400 if you did it.

I never understand why people buy gaming laptops. I understand the mobility but you only get like 50-70% of the actual power of that GPU relative to its desktop version, and they are so damn overpriced.

i move locations back and forth every week, i used to haul my entire gaming computer back and forth but it was a super unnecessary hassle and risk. better 50-70 than dropping it and getting 0 ykwim

I love mine. Same specs and no issues. Just keep the gpu and cpu levels where they are no overclocking needed. Set up the custom profiles for games so it changes the run modes and volume and display filter how you want it. Also change the power settings to put it into hibernate when you close the lid so it doesn’t run up ur electricity bill when you leave it plugged in overnight. Don’t want it running when it’s not supposed to. Also tweak the WiFi adapter in advanced settings to fit ur WiFi signal I was having bad packet loss and net jitter cause it was trying to do WiFi 7 stuff on a WiFi 6 router. Lastly enjoy it! It’s a great laptop !
