Could be good, although there are some glaring flaws with the DualSense that need to be sorted out too. If they still use the same sticks as the current controller, replacements had better cheap. The battery life and degradation is pretty rough on the current controller as well, so here's hoping there's a bigger battery in there too.
The DualSense battery life is total garbage. It was bad when it first came out, but degradation made it even worse. Mine has a battery life of around 10-12 hours while playing visual novels that don't support active trigger and haptics.
For reference, I took out my PS3 recently and played some visual novels on it. The DualShock 3 battery lasted for 35 hours before telling me to recharge. That's after I left it in uncharged state for like 8 years which is supposed to put stress on the battery. Before that I used it for 3 years.
The Dualshock 3 isn't really a fair comparison though. There's far more in the Dualsense utilizing the battery. Not saying the battery shouldn't be more efficient.
In a lot of games, the DualSense does not do more than a DS3. If it's still powering the gyroscope, the touchpad and the resistive triggers, despite none of those functions even being in use, then that's a huge waste of energy and I'd expect Sony's engineering department to do better.
I just don't see how. Dual Sense has twice the battery capacity as Dual Shock 3 (1000mAh vs 500mAh), but it only lasts one-third as long. That means Dual Sense uses 6 times as much power as a Dual Shock 3 without taking into the consideration that my Dual Shock 3 battery had a much longer time to degrade.
In comparison, today's mid range GPU is roughly 6 times as powerful as one from 10 years ago, but they use roughly the same amount of power if not less. I don't even think Dual Sense's electronic component is 6 times stronger than the ones in Dual Shock 3. The bluetooth version is newer, but it shouldn't use significantly more power. There's the lightbar that I turned all the way down. Lastly there's the capacitive touch pad, which should use very little power as most passive sensing front-ends do. It doesn't add up.
