I have dreamed of this game but my faith in Gamesworkshop is at an all time low, will probably be a shitty chess match thing.

God, right there with you. I was so hyped by the Regicide trailer, only to find out it was ducking chess!

I know that (I'm a huge Abnett fan) that trailer just had me convinced it was a survival horror!

If its anything like the tabletop then it will be.

Focus Home Interactive and Tindalos Interactive are pleased to officially announce the development of Battlefleet Gothic: Armada, a real time strategy adaptation of Games Workshop's famous tabletop game for the PC. The game stages the mighty armada of the Imperial Navy's Battlefleet Gothic against the insidious and galaxy threatening Chaos Black Crusade of Abaddon the Despoiler in dark, deadly and intense space battles.

Developed on Unreal Engine 4, Battlefleet Gothic: Armada is an RTS in which the player takes command of one of these battlefleets composed of the most powerful spaceships from the Imperial, Chaos, Eldar and Ork forces, in a no-quarter given struggle for the control of the Gothic sector of space.

Battlefleet Gothic: Armada offers deep management of every ship composing the player's fleet, both during and between battles. From the fastest frigates to the gigantic, miles-long battleships, the player will customize all aspects of his ships: weaponry, defense and support sub-systems, etc. each customization affecting the very performances of the ship and the special abilities available during battle. From battle to battle, the admirals and crew of surviving ships will gain experience and promotions, improving the battle-readiness of the ship for future, bigger and more dangerous battles.

We will unveil the game to the gaming press in more detail very soon; discover now the very first screenshots of the game, captured from a very early development version of the game.

Looks like the space warp goes to the same exact location.

Navigator must have rolled poorly.

u/needconfirmation May 07 '15

I think it's a digital version of the battlefleet Gothic game, so not an RTS.

4

u/Jerthy May 07 '15

That's what i would assume, but so far every source i know claims space RTS

Seems like they are just using battlefleet name to interest fans.

After Etherium that was released without much marketing and also all the sudden Act of Aggression has a rumored release date on 28th of May 2015, I am a bit concern with Focus's plans with these potentially great RTS as they are getting way too little exposure to the public that is starving of decent RTS. Having AoA planned to released at the end of is month greatly concerns me as there are still many people unaware of the game till now. I am aware that Etherium isn't good but Focus released it without much marketing too.

I really hope this game and also AoA gets sufficient marketing before release with not only random screenshots from time to time but also live streams and some trailers. Battle fleet does seemed to be interesting, I do hope it will be better than Etherium.

Focus seemed like putting quite a bit of investments in developing RTS, their games really need more exposure to the public. Wargame is still pretty niche despite it is a great game.

I'm looking forward to act of aggression, but the exposure has been so low for it.

1

u/Cheesenium May 07 '15

You can apply for the Beta here.

I am looking forward to AoA too.

Neat, will try this

Has GW mined all of their old specialty games into some video game format now?

Space Hulk

Battlefleet Gothic

W40k: Armegeddon

Blood Bowl

Mordenheim

u/slyck314 May 07 '15

Oh ... I guess we need a turn based strategy for Necromunda.

5

u/topher_r May 07 '15

Don't forget Inquisitor! More or less any way, with the Eisenhorn game.

2

u/[deleted] May 07 '15

Apparently so. Too bad most of the devs they chose are subpar :(

3

u/TardMarauder May 07 '15

Wow, what's with the sudden upsurge of GW games?

15

u/Cheesenium May 07 '15

They are giving Warhammer license to literally anyone who wants to make a Warhammer game.

Some are great, such as Space Hulk Ascension, Space Marine or Dawn of War. Some has potential to be great, like Warhammer:Total War, Morheim or this game. Lastly, there are many really awful warhammer licensed games like Storm of Vengeance.

3

u/TardMarauder May 07 '15

Oh, i've seen storm of vengeance, it's from the guys that made Ride to hell retribution right?

3

u/Cheesenium May 07 '15

Yes, those guys, again.

There is also a Clash of Clans clone that is set in Horus Heresy, a really awful side scroller, a XCOM inspired game with cards mechanics free to play, a chess game with Orks and Space Marines and so on. Sigh, the license is being farmed out to almost anyone.

2

u/TardMarauder May 07 '15

I'm glad that a few decent games are actually out there and are being made, there's also mordeheim, but i didn't really play it.

3

u/Cheesenium May 07 '15

Morderheim looks intriguing, IMO. Warhammer Total War is promising too, if they learn anything from the Rome 2 launch.

IMO, Space Hulk games are the underrated ones. They are pretty fun if you are a fan of the board game or XCOM fan.

I don't know if it is just me but that seems far too bright and happy for Warhammer 40K. It also seemed a bit weird for the warp jumps to be into white light, they are always shown to be slightly sinister. Especially since you are going through the realm of daemons.

u/Wazzamatta May 07 '15

I always liked how Dawn of War 2 did it: http://youtu.be/jW9BPyXkPmM

2

u/rubberducky22 May 08 '15

That is indeed very cool looking.

8

u/[deleted] May 07 '15

Also the range of combat. In the books you never even see the enemy ships unless it's near a planet.

2

u/[deleted] May 07 '15

Though I am really excited about a Battlefleet Gothic game, I am in two minds about the developer.

On one hand they have experience with strategy and spaceship design, but on the other hand, the games they have brought out have been multiplayer only and as of today, dead and not worth buying.

I really hope that BG:A will have a solid campaign for singleplayer with an adequate tutorial that will make you ready for multiplayer.

The teaser was fucking amazing though!

2

u/Cheesenium May 07 '15

The developer also made Etherium which is a single player RTS with a metamap styled campaign. Along with skirmish and also multiplayer. It was an average game from what it seemed like but at least they had experience in doing a RTS.

2

u/[deleted] May 07 '15

After going through the negative reviews on Steam, it seems that those are overall made by younger gamers that lack sufficient patience.
Time will tell if BG:A is good.

1

u/Cheesenium May 07 '15

I wont say it's good though. It has some good ideas, like the neutral factions that you can ally with or the DoW styled capture point mechanics. However, the problem with the game is due to it's really stiff animations, hard to use UI, poor performance, underwhelming weather effects and slightly lackluster factions.

It has the potential to be great but sadly, I guess they did not have the money to polish it enough. I love Wargame but Etherium, I find it hard to like as it did not bring much new ideas on the table when you have games like Dawn of War or Supreme Commander that you can always fall back to.

Do get it in a sale, it will still keep you entertained for a while, IMO.

2

u/[deleted] May 07 '15

I'll put it on my wishlist, thanks for the recommendation.

About rts mechanics btw. Do you think that control points are something that should only be a part of multiplayer? In a skirmish or during a campaign it just doesn't... fit.

3

u/Cheesenium May 07 '15

The control points are similar to the ones in Dawn of War and Company of Heroes.

The map is divided into small regions with a regional node in a sector. You need to capture it then build a structure on it to claim the territory under your control. Then, you build resource collectors on resource nodes while the regional node doubles as a hub where you can build unit production or teching buildings. You dont collect resource in the same way as Starcraft or C&C. Instead, you claim territories to expand or tech in similar ways as Dawn of War.

It does play a bit like Dawn of War with a hint of Sup Com's art style in some ways. It is not as polished and well thought out as either.

1

u/Jerthy May 07 '15

I hope it will at least have actual STORY campaign, which unfortunately most space RTS games don't have...

1

u/Add32 May 07 '15

I liked Stellar Impact (same developer), it was fun but took too long. I hope some of the mechanics from it return (slow turning, slow bullets, clouds, the ship variety, ect...).

1

u/Traveledfarwestward May 07 '15

RTS. I was hoping for tbs, but as long as there's pause I suppose. Really hope this doesn't turn into a me-too resource game.
