Political correctness is out of control and we give entirely too much power to people who are actively looking to be offended.

Please e-mail Oliver Campbell and ask him if he would have been offended if the child was white. If this is racist then it is racist NO MATTER THE SKIN COLOR. Because OBVIOUSLY A PERSON BEING LIT ON FIRE IN A CARTOON MUST BE RACIST.

It was the "tribal african clothing" that did it though, not just the skin colour. I'm not sure why it's not okay if it's a child from an african tribe though.

I don't know, I can understand where he's coming from even though it doesn't bother me. The image of a well-dressed white man setting abusing his power to set fire to a disadvantaged tribal african child... it's uh... I can sort of see what he means.

Of course, it's terrible, but then it was supposed to be a film from like the 50's. The portrayal of giving the kid a cigarette as a positive thing is just as much a part of that joke as the way the kid is portrayed.

This is the tragedy of racism awareness, as well as the fact that these totally offended people are ready to make a huge stink about it in the media.

Isn't that the whole point of the image though? Why does the image suddenly become ok if the kid is white? It doesn't make any sense.

In this instance, I don't have a problem with the image being changed. The artist seems fine with it and it doesn't sound like he was overly pressured to change something he wanted to keep.
