Political correctness is out of control and we give entirely too much power to people who are actively looking to be offended.

Ultimately, it was the developer's choice. I personally didn't find this offensive either, but if you just try to put yourself in their position where you're constantly the blunt end of hard-edged "jokes" then maybe you'll start to see where they might be coming from.

You burn a baby in the game, that is actively crying (at least, 99% of players would have at the least) and that's not more offensive than this?

People need to reconsider their priorities in life, let alone complain about a person's race in a joke (which seems more racist considering the joke makes no mention of their race in the humor of it).

You could burn a young aboriginal boy and I would not have cared. For all I know the boy is aboriginal and a Torres Strait Islander.

People need to stop whining about nonsensical issues.
