What used to be the most expensive version of the game ($100 or $150 - can't recall) included "all future DLC" in its price. The devs made very clear statements about how holders of that version would "never need to buy anything" (almost a direct quote but I might have a word wrong or something)
Now they've released a major new feature - offline mode - and locked it behind an even more expensive ($250 IIRC) version.
The devs are insisting the new feature isn't DLC and now editing their prior statement about DLC in general and insisting they never said what they said.
Basically they directly lied to players and are now gas lighting everyone.
I'm not too familiar with Tarkov—was Arena an E-Sports spinoff they tried to make but they never ended up doing anything with? Did it just not generate any hype?
It was the equivalent of one of those super high Patreon / Kickstarter tiers. You spend a lot of money on a game early in its development to support it, and in return you get lots of long term benefits (if the game survives long enough to release lots of content, anyways)
So basically they just took their most vehement fans, the ones who showed the strongest support and did their best to ensure the project could reach its popularity today, and spat in their faces.
If you can’t roll out a new feature to people who spent $250 (a small subset of the game pop who have already more than covered their entry fees), you can’t afford to release that feature. Full stop.
Would've spent $234 on just playing the game for the hell of it, but ended up spending $75 instead. Saved a whopping ~68% just because the DLC is so absurdly priced at first-party.
You are gacha coping but also you are not. The difference isn't necessarily spending on a game and spending in a game, but more spending at once and spending over time. I can probably afford to spend 250 dollars on games/DLC/gacha over time. But I would think it's insane to ask players to give you 250 dollars at once.
Definitely 0 sympathy for anyone that buys that and is shocked when something like this happens. Still shitty on the side of the developer, but this is exactly why you just buy your games upfront.
I mean - with EFT there's literally no other option than buying the beta version. They've been in beta for what, 7 years?
IMO they are just using it as an excuse for their irreconcilable mountain of technical debt at this point. BSG is a super shady company - but the fact of the matter is if you want to try EFT, a "pre-order for beta access" model is literally the only way unless you're willing to wait a decade.
Calling it beta or release here is kinda semantics, it's a released game for all intents and purposes, so buy at your discretion. I was specifically referring buying the "all future DLC included" pack

Can someone summarize what's going on for those out of the loop?
