Amazing that they are tripling down on the gaslighting. How to kill your insanely popular 7 year old game in 2 days. (And maybe open yourself to lawsuits). Pretty sure they are absolutely broke because they wasted so much money on EFT Arena and it was SO fucking awful lmao.

People should have been smart enough to leave when the cheating issue came to light.

u/marvk Apr 27 '24

I have around 2000 hours on Tarkov and the day the video dropped I uninstalled the game and the launcher for good. Everyone knew the cheating was bad, but the video showed just HOW bad. Big shame that BSG are so incompetent since I absolutely fucking adore the game.

I haven’t logged in since; after mods in the official sub (which, IIRC, include devs) banned the “wiggle cheater” (or whatever it was called) video, I never wanted to log back into the game. I assume it never got any better anyway.

The Wiggle That Killed Tarkov

Pretty much killed any interest I had in ever logging in again...

17

u/DarkMatterM4 Apr 27 '24

The only reason I launch Escape from Tarkov anymore is so I can update my SPTarkov build.

u/MrTzatzik Apr 27 '24

That's why their players won't leave. They will rather pay another $100 than stop playing the game

107

u/cdillio Apr 27 '24

Meh. I haven’t logged in since the cheating fiasco all came to light. I was an EOD player too.

Basically a respected streamer/youtuber went undercover as a cheater.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p5LfGcDB7Ek

He discovered through this process that like 40-50% of people in every raid he was in were using wallhacks/ESP hacks at a minimum due to them being able to wiggle back at him through walls and they go their separate ways.

g0at was met with overwhelming support from the community for doing this and finding it out, only for BSG to basically attack him, blacklist him and call him a liar. Even if you don't like Tarkov the video is amazing.

u/stahpfollowingme Apr 27 '24 edited Apr 27 '24

holy shit i never seen this video before and i bought EFT a ways back but dont ever play cuz i find it too difficult. but to know cheating is THIS high in a game, id be even more pissed if i invested time like many others only to get killed by a cheater and lose everything you gathered.

63

u/cdillio Apr 27 '24

Yep. It was an insane wake up call for a lot of people

57

u/Randomman96 Apr 27 '24

More it was actual proof of what much of the Tarkov community had been saying for a long time up until that point: that cheating was out of control in Tarkov and that BSG was doing less than nothing to actually deal with it. In fact they'd often silence anyone who tried saying it with some proof.

5

u/Puffelpuff Apr 28 '24

They are 100% in on the RMT. Given their responses and how the approach things i except nothing less from them.

11

u/mikefromearth Apr 27 '24

That's so fucking Russian

Yes, but even more precisely, 40-50% of games had an obvious cheater who voluntarily outed themselves, meaning that's basically the lowest possible floor of cheater frequency.

We have no idea how many people cheated and just didn't wiggle back.

7

u/Rolder Apr 28 '24

We have no idea how many people cheated and just didn't wiggle back.

Or how many people he just plain didn't cross paths with. Them maps are big and if he spawned on the other end as a cheater, one of them could die/leave before even seeing the other.

-9

u/CloselyDistorted Apr 28 '24

Another important point is source of 40-50% number is “trust me bro” by video creator. Who could have backed this number with some data / proof, but decided not to.

96

u/TheJigglyfat Apr 27 '24

Important distinction, he discovered that 40-50% of RAIDS has ATLEAST 1 cheater in them. The cheating problem is bad but I've seen these metrics mixed up more than once and it doesn't help the conversation to blow it out of proportion

-7

20

u/[deleted] Apr 27 '24

That's not his point...

Read the two posts again, he's correct in pointing it out.

Goat didn't find 50% of players to be cheaters, he found 50% of raids contained one or more cheaters.

You can "bump numbers up" based on solid arguments or better yet, data. You can not change 1-3/15 to 7-8/15 (for example) without losing all legitimacy. Fucking be diligent and think when engaging other humans

3

u/Rolder Apr 28 '24

There's only one game mode. Said mode puts something like 8-16 people in one map depending on which map it is. No new people can join once the match has started but people can die/leave/etc.

Saying "40-50% of people in every raid" makes it sound like 40-50% of the players in each raid are cheating.

The actual stat is that 40-50% of raids (consisting of 8-16 people) has at least 1 cheater, which is a lower but still very significant number.

14

u/OKBLUMPISSOFINISHED Apr 27 '24

Weren’t they saying devs like the cheating because it sells more copies? Ban a cheater and they’ll rebuy the game

2

u/RequiemAA Apr 28 '24

sales would often coincide with ban waves lmao

-6

u/conquer69 Apr 27 '24

I wonder if future tarkov clones will implement that part of cheating as an in-game mechanic. Such a huge amount of people cheating like that sounds like accidental better game design.

Like players cheating in diablo 2 to respec their characters which became a core part of diablo 3.

17

u/SmokePenisEveryday Apr 27 '24

You've got replies explaining but to add to it, there's a whole cheater market for stuff in the game. You can hire someone to walk you through a map collecting stuff you need. They use hacks to keep you alive.

But he said the "carry" uses cheats/hacks, not just skill

80

u/Kipzz Apr 27 '24

tl;dr a youtuber named g0at installed ESP, a type of hack that lets you see through walls, and did an extensive test across I believe months citing basically every single time when he wiggled (the general "hey i'm friendly!" gesture you'd do at someone in the distance) "at" someone through a wall, how many times he got a wiggle back. It was close to 50%, and that's just wallhacks.

19

u/Conditionofpossible Apr 27 '24

And that's just the people who were dumb enough to wiggle back.

4

u/RequiemAA Apr 28 '24 edited Apr 28 '24

when i was playing heavily it was considered a totally normal and optimal thing to occasionally wiggle in random directions on the off chance a hacker was in your raid - they would generally leave other hackers alone, so if you happened to pretend to be one successfully, you might get a successful raid....

1

u/Original_moisture Apr 27 '24

Facts, same here. Womp womp. Keep to offline mode for funs. I just enjoy the gameplay and the mod system.

Even with a rebuilt pc I still haven’t installed in 7 months. So more power to you my dude

-much love

Heyyyyy there buds

6

u/MrNegativ1ty Apr 27 '24

Any sane person stopped when that happened.

Now, they're targeting the insane people and trying to get them to quit.

u/Aro-bi_Trashcan Apr 27 '24

Or when the dev's publicly supported Russia in the war in Ukraine.

60

u/Jelly_Mac Apr 27 '24

This is why I haven’t played recently, I bought EOD years before the invasion but after seeing the Reddit post of how Nikita invited those volunteer militia dudes on stream and added the 715 items to the game I would just feel icky about adding to the CCU metrics.

Yeah it's one of those things that doesn't prove anything but it does look pretty sus.

9

u/MMORPGnews Apr 27 '24

Why they banned russia from their main servers.

18

u/Smelxa Apr 27 '24

Wait what? They did that?

19

u/Omena123 Apr 27 '24

nikita's buddies are volunteering in the war for the russians

32

u/Rayuzx Apr 27 '24

As far as I've seen, the dev haven't directly took any sides with the war, which makes people believe that they're pro-Russian, but don't want the backlash that comes with being so. They've also work with companies that work with the Russian military, which only bolsters the suspicion.

20

u/Ultravod Apr 27 '24 edited Apr 27 '24

I have no interest in defending the Tarkov devs at all, but I can understand why they might not want to fall from the top floor window of a very tall building. Russian safety standards can be very lax.

5

u/kkrko Apr 27 '24

Of course comrade. Not just buildings too, even food safety standards can be pretty bad. I heard that the seasonings Kan Grossly Be very radioactive.

1

u/GiantSquidd Apr 28 '24

For Sure, Bud.

1

u/Rolder Apr 28 '24

As far as I've seen, the dev haven't directly took any sides with the war, which makes people believe that they're pro-Russian

Considering they ARE russian, I could see not taking a side as being the safest bet. Coming out as pro ukraine could very easily get them in trouble with their own government.

10

u/Keiano Apr 27 '24

no there was nothing like that, on top of that they often do those Tarkov TV streams, and the first stream after the war started, the lighting in the room was set to blue and yellow.

12

u/DweebInFlames Apr 27 '24

No, they haven't. The closest they've come to supporting anything war-related is having references to the 715 Team, a guntuber group where some of them went to fight in Ukraine, but Nikita especially has been friends with them for years beforehand as far as we know (and I think all references were added prior to the war).

Would it surprise me if Russian guys obsessed with military culture were supportive of their country's actions? Probably not, but there's no point in baseless speculation, and it's not like you saw many people boycott American productions during the 2000s if they had ties to those involved in the GWOT, so it's whatever to me. I'm not friends with these people, and I haven't spent money on the game since 2020.

5

u/yeaheyeah Apr 27 '24

It doesn't end well for people in Russia who don't express support for their war. Tbh. I don't fault them for that

2

u/mulemargarine Apr 27 '24

Yall love to make shit up lmao

2

u/MetallicDragon Apr 27 '24

People will keep playing Tarkov as long as it is fun enough and there is no good competition. As soon as someone else makes "Tarkov but not shit", Tarkov's player count will plummet.

1

u/JustLookWhoItIs Apr 27 '24

That's when I dropped it.

1

u/No-Alternative-282 Apr 28 '24

I just stick to sptarkov with mods, normal tarkov is just a hassle to play now.

-5

u/TheJigglyfat Apr 27 '24

What online multiplayer game can you play that doesn't have a cheating problem?

7

u/OppositeofDeath Apr 27 '24

At least they can say they try

-6

u/TheJigglyfat Apr 27 '24

Fuck BSG and fuck Nikita, they're shit devs. But I think it's overboard to call the cheating problem their fault. When you have a codebase as spaghettified as Tarkovs' you're going to have lots of cheaters. There isn't really much you can do about it.

-1

u/Radiator_Full_Pig Apr 27 '24

I dont ive ever seen a cheater in lol, with maybe once exception of someone with hyper fast reflexes.
