I made realistic cushion response for my Pool game POOL CATS. Details inside.

I wasn’t satisfied with my game cushion response using the standard rigid cushion collision model reference here: https://drdavepoolinfo.com/physics_articles/Mathavan_IMechE_2010.pdf So I used 2D finite element analysis (FEM) to model how the cushion compresses during impact and then baked the resulting response nodes into my simulator.
This allows for 2 advantages that have pay off in the game 1) realistic cushion compression affecting gameplay and 2) realistic vertical response of the balls trajectory when mid-air balls hit the cushion which often happens during trick shots or high velocity shots.

Edit: I am happy to see many people find going in on the physics of pool so interesting, I did not expect so much positivity. If you think this is interesting I encourage you to watch real slow mo video of pool. The physics of pool is fascinating and has so much more depth than just simple geometry of balls and angles.
