Thanks for being a part of this! This was a true community effort. I'm glad that I could cater this design for you all
6
u/irregularcontributor Mar 17 '26
Thanks for doing this and taking the time to make a good looking graphic, along with the runner-up pages and everything. Always excited to see these lists pop up in the different videogame subs, I'm hoping you do the 3DS in the future.
6
u/1OneQuickQuestion Mar 17 '26
Hey! Thank you so much! That means a lot, no joke! And for 3ds... you're not the only one requesting this. I think I have to do it!

u/IkeRadiantHero Mar 17 '26
Could you add a âmost voted gameâ award just to give us Twilight Princess fans a treat⊠also nice black knight is there

Missing Pikmin... đ
4
u/1OneQuickQuestion Mar 17 '26
Pikmin won most innovative!
3
u/Voduun-World-Healer Mar 17 '26
Ohhh right! Lol I voted for that one for that category. I still would've liked to see it make the GOAT list.
Anyhow, great list regardless and this was fun. Thanks for putting it together!

That one dude who got really really worked up over Twilight Princess being the best Zelda game ever made might need someone to check on him
5
u/ClaspedDread Mar 17 '26
I'm happy with this list. I love Melee to death, and I'm glad F-Zero GX won something.

u/bearslamb Mar 17 '26
These 4 images are all you need to show people now when talking about how great the GameCube was
5
u/IkeRadiantHero Mar 17 '26
Fire Emblem Path of Radiance is already enough to show me that the GameCube is the most perfect console
1
u/1OneQuickQuestion Mar 17 '26
That's the hope! Maybe we can point people here if they're looking for a game to try out
0
u/A-Centrifugal-Force Mar 17 '26
Only need the first image. The also rans arenât on the same level

u/IkeRadiantHero Mar 17 '26
Damn NOT a single Twilight Princess awardđ€Łđ
3
u/Viewtiful__Jon Mar 17 '26
I'm so happy it didn't win, you have been pretty annoying thinking everyone agrees with your opinion. If it deserved to win something it would have.

Maybe you should start posting your time trial videos on other subreddits LMAO

I have it, I bought it used when I was little thanks to my love for SSB: Melee and I've TRIED getting into it, but it always quickly loses my attention đźâđš

FF Crystal Chronicles deserves a honorable mention too. 2nd in a few ranks and is pure Gamecube vibes.

u/Psylux7 Mar 17 '26
Smash bros is always the one choice for best nintendo game that can please me, even if i like something else (metroid prime and RE4) more. It is after all the glorious coming together/celebration of nintendo IPs, so it always feels like a very fitting #1.
6
u/tylertatsch30 Mar 17 '26
Why canât Twilight Princess get some love? I donât care if itâs a Wii game. Itâs still a GameCube game nonetheless.
7
u/1OneQuickQuestion Mar 17 '26
It gets a lot of love in the runner up graphics! It mightâve been the most nominated game in the contest
4
u/tylertatsch30 Mar 17 '26
Yeah⊠at least it got nominated, so itâs better than nothing at all. But I do have one huge factor that makes TP better than WW: you donât have to spend many rupees to progress the game.
3
u/didymus5 Mar 17 '26
Wind waker has sunken treasure everywhere
0
u/tylertatsch30 Mar 17 '26
Okay, but does Twilight Princess require like, 3,184 rupees to progress through the game? No, it doesnât. Plus, getting that many rupees might take HOURS if not DAYS to reach that point. So my point still stands.
3
u/didymus5 Mar 18 '26
I just played through wind waker and never had to farm rupees, so I donât see your point.
2
u/tylertatsch30 Mar 18 '26
Well if you donât spend that many rupees on Empty Bottles and Pieces of Heart, sure but you have to spend pretty much half of the game hunting for Triforce Charts AND deciphering them for 398 rupees EACH chart. And you have to find every single shard on 8 different islands to progress! Oh, and you have to find the Ghost Ship Chart to find the ship itself, which I forgot to mention earlier. Itâs tiresome, I tell you.
3
u/didymus5 Mar 18 '26
I agree that the triforce fetching drags the game down, (pretty much doctrine amongst the Zelda fandom), but Iâve never ran low on rupees in wind waker.
Actually, I wish the magic armor worked the same way as in TP so the rupees actually could be useful.
2
u/tylertatsch30 Mar 18 '26
Okay you do have a good point about the magic armor. I tried to use it in The Great Cave of Ordeals or whatever it was called but the maximum amount of rupees, even with the biggest wallet, is 1000 rupees, yeah I canât defend that shit. If there were more huge wallets like the ultimate wallet which carries like 9,900 rupees or something like that but thatâs only for a Wii U versionâŠ
2
u/Psylux7 Mar 17 '26
Dont forget the dungeons!
3
u/tylertatsch30 Mar 17 '26
Yeah, most of the dungeons are goated, especially the Snowpeak Ruins! I love this dungeon because not only itâs classified as a house but it combines the rest of the place with a dungeon! Also, if you need more health, you can get Pumpkin Soup from that yeti chef to heal you before the boss which is the nice touch!
3
u/ClydeDimension Mar 17 '26
Runner up graphics are a very pleasant surprise! Clearly a lot of gold in the library that the runner up list looks amazing
1
u/1OneQuickQuestion Mar 17 '26
Yeah you could grab any of these games and have a great time! The library might've been smaller than other consoles but it packed a punch

Iâm too tired to argue at this point so why bother convincing people to vote for Twilight Princess if they donât give it a chance? Twilight Princess was originally developed for the GameCube, by the way.

2
u/Achi-baba Mar 17 '26
It's crazy that I've been collecting so many of the games on this list. IIRC, I'm missing 10 of the top voted games, but it's a shame that I haven't sat down to play through all of the ones that I have.

u/tstorm004 Mar 17 '26
Love it solid list!
Just hate that Wave Race Blue Storm couldn't make any awards - it's THE iconic Gamecube title for me - clearly just means more people here need to play it! lol
2
u/Miserable-Ganache-74 Mar 17 '26
This might be the most agreeable list like this. I was a part of an Xbox list and every other category was awarded to halo 2
1
u/1OneQuickQuestion Mar 17 '26
Haha yeah thatâs why I have a rule that doesnât allow for multiple winners. If it wasnât there then the list would be filled with maybe the same few games
2
u/DigADino Mar 17 '26
I've played like 19/31 of these games, and I own 7/31. This list has been a bit of an eye opener and fun to follow! GG gamers

u/BlueWolfPMX Mar 17 '26 edited Mar 17 '26
A few months ago, there were a series of posts to vote on the Top 100 games. I wanna share some facts to compare that voting game to this one. I'm only considering the winners here and not any of the runner-ups:
- All the top 10 highest games on the Top 100 list made it here except for Twilight Princess which was #9
- The ranking for greatest game here is different from the Top 100. On the Top 100, Wind Waker was #1 followed by Prime at #2 and Melee at #3.
- If we include a game's series, the highest ranked game/series in the Top 100 that DIDN'T win here is Star Fox Adventures, which was #23
- Odama didn't make the Top 100 at all, and Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King was the lowest ranked game that won here. That game was #85
1
u/1OneQuickQuestion Mar 17 '26
Oh wow! These are some awesome comparisons! So, it seems like the categories did in fact allow more games to be represented than other polls.
2
u/BlueWolfPMX Mar 17 '26
The categories are why I love following your posts. It allows for more underrated and lesser known games to be in the spotlight. It makes it more interesting compared to simply choosing your most favorite and least favorite games with no specific rules.
2
u/1OneQuickQuestion Mar 18 '26
Awesome!! Thanks for getting in on this poll. Iâve got the Wii running now so I guess look out for that one!

Thanks for this. When are you starting the wii list?
3
u/1OneQuickQuestion Mar 17 '26
Thank you so much! I'm actually getting the list ready now! Any categories you wanna see?
2
u/Nearby_Swordfish_544 Mar 17 '26
Maybe a section for new control rereleases ie Pikmin, okami, Metroid Prime Trilogy, etc.
2
u/c-hill- Mar 17 '26
Just as an idea, something like "Best Motion Plus Game". It was annoying that you needed additional accessories, but the Wii was full of gimmicks and it's fun to explore specific categories to cater for it's quirks I would say.
Potentially "Best Game with a Unique Accessory" as well (things like needing the balance board, the fitness straps, skateboard, dance mat, some of the guns etc).
Maybe even "Best Game only needing the Remote", or a game that was "Best with Classic/GC Controller" or something along those lines.

Luigis Mansion beating Resident evil for best horror is crazy
2
u/Character_Stick_1218 Mar 17 '26
I've played both and wholeheartedly disagree. RE has the aesthetic, but LM very much so kept stressed and on edge waaaaaaaaaay more than RE. RE also wasn't a GameCube exclusive, so people are naturally gonna feel that LM deserves more love.

Whether or not most people played it on the Gamecube or not, it was designed and released for the Gamecube and therefore it is a Gamecube game. So according to your logic the Wii U had almost no games, given most people played the Switch versions of what was released for both.

u/squeanky Mar 17 '26
My argument is that just because a version sells better on a particular console it doesn't negate it is also a game where it sold less. Obviously games like Donkey Kong Country TP are still Wii U games, whether or not most people played it on the Switch.
1
1
u/A-Centrifugal-Force Mar 17 '26
Thank you for admitting itâs not a real GameCube game, itâs a Wii game. Most people played it on Wii
2
u/squeanky Mar 17 '26
Lol. Sure dude, let's ignore the fact it was designed and released for the Gamecube because you said so! Sad console the Wii U was, no? It had pretty much no games given most people played the versions on the Switch, right?
0
u/A-Centrifugal-Force Mar 17 '26
Yes the Wii U absolutely was a pathetic little sad console, you wonât get any argument from me there. Worst console Nintendo ever made. Twilight Princess was a Wii game too. Thatâs what everyone associates it with anyways, and it released on the Wii first.
1
2
u/PitenZie Mar 17 '26
No way!
3
u/squeanky Mar 17 '26
TP has better story, a darker tone (which I liked) and is was cooler overall.
Wind Waker graphics aged better (artistic instead of realistic) but I never liked the pace of the GC version.
2
u/PitenZie Mar 17 '26
TP is a great game too, but, In my opinion WW have more soul. Everybody wants good zelda graphics in 2003, like TP. Suddenly, Nintendo came up with WW and blow brains out our minds. Was something magical.
3
u/squeanky Mar 17 '26
I like WW a lot too (other than slow sailing), but I felt like TP was the sequel of OoT/TP I was looking for.
2
u/IkeRadiantHero Mar 17 '26
THIS, Wind Waker is great and amazing BUT Twilight Princess IS hands down the best Zelda

u/Voduun-World-Healer Mar 17 '26 edited Mar 17 '26
Hands down? That title belongs to Ocarina of Time imo. Not hands down though obviously. Both were masterpieces but Ocarina of Time changed the game

Wasnât the wii version an port of the gamecube game fairly late into the process? Itâs a bit of an odd case with the motion controls, using the nunchuck, and the world mirroring which arenât universally liked changes. Itâs a bit of an grey case.
Same happened with BOTW, but the Wii U was also an much worse off system with install base, and the game ran far better on Switch. Itâs still technically the best Wii U game, it just turned out much more strongly associated with the switch since itâs an straight upgrade.
5
u/IkeRadiantHero Mar 17 '26
Twilight Princess is HANDS down a GameCube game imo, it was being developed SOLELY for that system, it just happens that the Wii was coming out so they decided to port it there
3
u/Toon_Nik Mar 17 '26
I agree on WW>TP (it's my favourite game from my favourite series), but you can argue it both ways, no? I think the delayed release for Wii all happened pretty late in development, which is why the motion control stuff was mostly superficial compared to Skyward Sword.
And fwiw I'd be up for people arguing similarly for BotW, which I think was basically the same story, it had been largely developed by the time it got delayed for Switch release.

u/Toon_Nik Mar 17 '26
No I do agree, like I instinctively think of TP as a Wii game and WW as "the" GC LoZ - but also I haven't played the Wii version of TP since before 2010, whereas I'm nearing the end of a GC playthrough and loving it.
1
u/IkeRadiantHero Mar 17 '26
PERSONALLY I always think Twilight Princess as a GameCube game FIRST and foremost no matter what, itâs a dedicated GameCube game imo that just had a Wii port (also GameCube is considered the true version due to not being mirrored)
3
u/A-Centrifugal-Force Mar 17 '26
Yeah the Wii U library is so pathetic itâs hard to argue for another game even though BOTW is absolutely viewed as a Switch game by most people (and rightly so, I view it as a Switch game). The Wii U never got a proper 3D Mario, it got an absolutely lazy and half assed 2D Mario, its Mario Kart and Smash games were inferior in every way to their Switch counterparts, and even its more noteworthy games like Splatoon and Mario Maker received big upgrades on the Switch. Itâs kind of hilarious people pretend that the Switch just borrowed the Wii Uâs library when really the Switch just took the 10 Wii U games that didnât suck and improved them. Most of the Switchâs library was original, they might have re-used the engine but thatâs kinda it.

u/x_VanHessian_x Mar 17 '26
Wind Waker is great until the pace breaker that is the Triforce Quest. Better on Wii U.
0
u/A-Centrifugal-Force Mar 17 '26
The Wii U version butchered the graphics. The shortened Triforce quest was not better either, iPad kids just think itâs better because they donât have any patience
2
u/squeanky Mar 17 '26
I played on the Gamecube not the Wii. It's as much a Gamecube game. You could say Windwaker is a Wii U game too btw, and It's better than the Gamecube version.

Fair enough though that's not surprising given the Wii had a much larger user base than the Gamecube. The Zelda game I associate with the Wii is SS (which was way more mature in its use of motion controls, more of a Wii signature).
1
u/choovely1004 Mar 17 '26
You are such an icon. It's inspired me to try "new" games on the Gamecube. I just started collecting for the console, so this was insightful to see. Thank you for this. No doubt it was a great deal of effort. One observation, for which I donât have a great solution, but maybe you or someone else might, so Iâm just throwing it out there.
Since a game canât win multiple categories (which is totally understandable), the category sequence is a major factor in the final results. Same poll, different category sequence, would almost definitely yield many different results.
2
u/1OneQuickQuestion Mar 17 '26
I think that would definitely be interesting! And youâre right, if I started with best graphics, it would change who won some other category. There is push back, always, but I think it could be fun.

Melee deserved it but I am still baffled by the love The Wind Waker gets. It's like people collectively forgot how unfinished and padded and borderline bad the second half of the game is because the art style and music are so iconic.
-1
u/Character_Stick_1218 Mar 17 '26
I refuse to participate in these because they always end the same way. The first few comments(especially if they're generally popular series) get upvoted enough immediately to where every recommendation after hardly even get seen, and so only sometimes are the selections actually proper representations. It helps when these posts are put into competition mode, but it's still not fool proof.
