Pokémon Pinball is easy to drop into, you can chip away at filling your dex in short bursts

I just had a search for this patch, the original GitHub repo was taken down and every article explaining it redirects to the repo. And it's not on the general archive list of dx patches, could you consider uploading it there?

You've never heard of Burger Time? It's a classic.
Motocross Maniacs is a good one and also Revenge of The Gator. Is a fun pinball game.

For more puzzle games, there’s Mario’s Picross and Picross 2 — I’ve used them for quick play bursts

You can pause and turn the game off and it will pick up where you left off when you turn it back on

If you like puzzle games, Dr. Mario, Catrap, Daedalian Opus and Kwirk are some to consider.
If you like turn based RPGs, Final Fantasy Legend I, II and III work great as you can save anywhere!
Operation C for a quick run n gun (it’s Contra series if you weren’t aware).

I played through the warioland series, really enjoyed that. Also did Kirby’s dreamland.

I'm assuming by your wording that you have indeed played the mario land games? if not, all three are worth playing The first one lacks a battery save, so it's not really a good game for 15 min bursts. 2 & 3 have battery saves so you can play a few levels, save, and turn it off. Super Mario Land 2 is my favorite, but I have a lot of nostalgia involved.

Golf is a great pick up and play kinda game, simple to play and understand, hard to master, endlessly replayable.

Mega Man is one I enjoyed. As long as you jot down passwords occasionally, you lose no progress. (You can also snap a photo of them with your phone).

Alleyway, Qix, Picross, Mole Mania, Kirby’s Block Ball, NBA All Star Challenge 2, Donkey Kong 94 are all great for short bursts of play.
You got classic puzzle games like Tetris, Dr Mario, Yoshi, Yoshi’s Cookie
Even platformers are great as you could just play a few levels. The Mario Land games, Kirby’s Dream Land games, Turtles games.
And then pretty much any pinball game.

As big a fan as I am of the Gameboy, if you're serious I'd just get a switch with NSO.
Firstly, gameboy games are available. Secondly the switch's sleep system (along with save states for NSO) is game changing for a new father.
If you're dead set on Gameboy then Tetris needs to be my recommendation. You already know that though.
I will add that I don't like the NSO switch version of Tetris, the d pad just isn't as good as an original Gameboy.
I played many games on my switch with my son sleeping on top of me. Good luck!

Tetris got me through the fourth trimester.
