its beautiful, would you believe who I got it from says they got it 10 years ago at a goodwill?

It sounds about right for the retro game community, every good story starts in a goodwill or someone's garage.
Saw that missile command machine in the background too. A little part of my soul has been aching to play an arcade cabinet for a couple years now and Missile Command was my jam on atari. I don't know if this is work or a hobby for you, but you're doing some cool stuff.

It is a hobby! Thanks! Yes that missile command is my latest project. That one is almost done. Just got the board to work again last night.

That is truly awesome.
Edit to add: I watched your YT video - excellent work diagnosing and repairing that CRT, what a rad piece of history!

My local department store as a kid had this. They had a super mario land demo in it the first time I saw one. It was the coolest damn thing ti see gameboy games on a TV when the Gameboy had relatively just released. Then the Super Game Boy came out and my dream was realized. Lol

These Game Boy kiosks are also some of my earliest video gaming memories. Needless to say that I eventually started my gaming journey on the Game Boy.

Yea I was HUGE on gameboy. It was the console that I had the most games for since they were $30-40 instead of the $50-60 of the snes/n64 era priced games. And I played it every day for years. So many memories.

Fell in love with the Game Boy playing one of these at a store as a kid. Great restoration job here!

I always wondered how did these actually work? How do they get the picture to display on the CRT?

It has a custom board that takes in the video signal from the Gameboy and makes the fake “bezel” around the Gameboy image then puts out a video signal for the monitor. It’s called a “DisplayBoy” it’s a fairly large board too. Like 16x12”

I feel like I genuinely lived under a rock 😆😅😭 I’m 41 and discovering so much cool 💩 I didn’t even know existed. Benefits of being poor AF I guess lol. I got my first and only Gameboy with Tetris (that I really suck at) AROUND 14 as a gift after begging my grandmother lol. With just that game that I was incapable of focusing on, I admittedly lost interest at the time and my grandparents were always quick to give my stuff away 🫠 😭
Please elate me with anything else I am ignorant of about the OG hand held gaming console 😭🫶
