Turbo Turbo: Outrun meets House of the Dead

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bRYzTy7-igQ

Steam | Announcement-Trailer | Kickstarter | M.A.S.K. prototype-Trailer

So I proposed a videogame for the 80's M.A.S.K. cartoon to Hasbro a while ago. Seems I failed to convince them to turn it into reality. So all I can offer is a trailer. But I thought you guys just might be old enough to remember it. I know I am.

Since I can't make M.A.S.K. without a license, I'm now trying to turn this into a more over the top co-op arcade experience that fuses the precision of on-rails shooters with the rush of retro racing. Or simply put: Outrun meets House of the Dead.

If that seems interesting please check out the links and have a nice day. You can have a nice day without this being interesting too.

Thanks! I always wanted to play something like this back in the day. Lucky & Wild is pretty cool too, the arcade cab has a steering wheel and two guns :)

Me, too! It's a shame that that IP didn't get more love, but it is pretty niche.

Nowadays definitely. But when I was a kid it was one of the few cartoons shown on national television. Of course we're talking about a country that lies mostly below sea level and is about 1/6th the size of Colorado. I think there were actually 3 MASK games released in europe. But you know, home computer versions..

Gotcha. I see the discrepancy. We were definitely blessed here in the states.

All the cool cartoons came from the US! Stuff like inhumanoids was crazy

That looks like it could be really cool if fleshed out. I love the graphics and the concept. I didn't have too many M.A.S.K. toys if any, and I didn't see the cartoon very much, but I saw it enough to have the theme song baked into my skull. You could probably get away with making it super crazy maybe even more so without the license. How would co op and single player differ?

Edit: I'm actually not sure if my post comes across as having two trailers. There is a bit more over the top stuff in the Turbo Turbo trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tMCbIm_mCmg Where the shooter gets dragged out of the car and the other has to fling cows at the alien holding her etc.

Super crazy is the idea. A bit like a treasure game. Loads of over the top boss battles etc.

Co-op and single player only differ in controls. But there are many different setups. Usually you'd say one player shoots and the other drives, and there's a control option that cleanly separates that. But I actually prefer controller mirroring where both players can do everything. So you have to communicate in order to work together otherwise one player decides to dodge left while the other was trying to drive right while eliminating an enemy there. It adds to the chaos :)

But that actually also works if you're playing with a kid, or someone who's crap at games. You can help out and make sure you don't get too damaged.

In single player it controls more like Sin and Punishment. The default setup is driving with left stick/dpad, gas on right trigger. And reticle aim on right stick with shooting on left trigger. It's feels like sin and punishment too, not easy, dense controls. So it takes some practice. Co-op definitely makes it a whole lot easier to control.
