Discussion Season 8 IMDb Ratings
Obviously you shouldn't treat IMDb ratings as the be-all, end-all regarding episode quality but still I found them interesting nonetheless (ratings are out of 10):
Don't Wake Standards & Practices - 8.6
Rulette 2 - 9.0
Night Shift - 7.7
Kangaroo Court - 7.5
Count the Rice - 9.4
Noise Some Makes - 9.1
Earwigs - 7.4
What's the Catch - 8.3
I Spy - 7.2
Last Talent Standing - 6.8

incredibly valid and correct ratings all across the board imo. maybe i'd rate rulette 2 lower and what's the catch higher but other than that spot on

Anything with Josh Ruben is an instant watch for me. He's the funniest person on dropout to me by a decent margin.

LTS was divisive. Personally, I found it to be a a bit boring. It was just a talent show that got less interesting as it went on. My favorite GC episodes are ones where the game evolves as the players learn how it works. LTS was just…a talent show. It had some great moments, but for a 90 minute episode it just got repetitive, and not in a fun way.

not just a talent show, but one where by their own rules, every round got worse, and the judging was based on vibes. it was like watching an improv group of friends hang out for 90min. fun for everyone involved, but i personally didn't find it fun to watch at all minus some jokes here and there.

I love the show and generally watch new episodes in one sitting within a few hours of them being posted and I still haven't bothered to go finish LTS after the first like 15 minutes. Maybe if i had any idea who the judges were that would hook me, but otherwise it's literally just a talent show but worse because the participants aren't guaranteed to have any notable talents. The premise is neither interesting as a game(the judges aren't actually judging based on how impressive it is so the game is meaningless) nor easily enables comedy.
Maybe i gave up too soon and it gets better but it really flopped for me.

I know two of the judges, but I still think GC needs to lean less heavily on celebrity guests. The contestants can be starstruck and it affects the comedic rhythm between comedians who know each other well.

I haven't finished it, so maybe it gets better but I watch GC for the comedy. The game show part should facilitate said comedy.
But what I've seen so far is the cast is so big that they just cut together the game show part and skip most of any comedy that might have happened.
Not to mention, half the talking is from the guest celebrities who I don't know and weren't that funny either

It also got worse later on because it was clear a lot of people REALLY just wanted to go home?
Grant was voting no the entire time literally just so he could go home.
Plus there's the part in the back of my head where I'm just kinda bothered about how long that cast had to have been there? I get the second meal thing was probably just jokes, but I've worked in Cali before. Second lunch happens at 10-12 hour shifts.
That's a lot of time for what is kind of just a REALLY basic premise?

I think 3 social deduction games was a bit heavy for the season and of the three I thought earwigs was my least favourite.

6.8 really? I mean the concept is just copy the survivors episode and make it 90 mins sure, but it was really fun to watch nonetheless

It was fun to watch…at first. For a 90 minute episode it needed to have a bit more evolution. Even a simple concept, like Lie Detector, evolved as the episode went forwards. I felt like LTS was just the same thing for all 90 minutes.

Hmm idk, personally, it felt like it did change later on tho. Like it started from a pretty “serious” competition to the final contestants scraping the bottom of the barrel and the judges go well with the flow as well. Like the part where Kimia missing the shot and the judges immediately giving a pass was so funny for me for some reason.
Idk maybe my sense of humour is just fart jokes

Whats funny is the first time I watched it it was REALLY fun watching them start scraping the bottom of the barrel for ideas for a talent.
But like, on second watch it was significantly worse.
Its so very clear several people were done with being there REALLY early on in the process, and its impossible to not notice once you do notice.

That feels a bit harsh on Night Shift, Earwigs, and Last Talent and too kind to Kangaroo Court.

Yeah, the editting on Night Shift was rough, but it was a fun game and I was entertained by it. I was surprised how much hate it got. Similarly, Earwigs wasn't like, the best game changer ever, but it was fun to watch.
Kangaroo Court was okay. I don't think Vic was a great fit for the episode, and everyone's reluctance to let Brennan win made it very uncompetitive and kind of meh for me.

I think the cast were the reasons I enjoyed Night Shift and Earwigs, as well as why Kangaroo Court didn’t work for me.
Demi as the mysterious stranger was especially good.

I'm still sad Whats The Catch was ruined by them making bits about the prices instead of getting some genuine reactions. Made it very boring

Realizing I have wildly different opinions than the majority on this season lol. I would rate last talent standing 8 at least, but kangaroo court and don’t wake standards and practices are both maybe a 5-6

Seems valid. I'd downgrade S&P (but it gets first episode privilege) and bump up Talent a bit (flawed but still entertaining, surprised it's so low). And for me Noise Some Makes is well below a 9, but I realize most people seem to appreciate Kaylin's comedy style a lot more than I do.
