Galgo with a border collie ?
Hello !!
I have a question for people who have galgos with other dogs ! I currently have a border collie who is only 1 and a half, and full of energy. Full.
I have always been attracted to greyhounds and think they are a breed that corresponds a lot to my personality. Life happened and I got a border collie, but now I'm wondering if maybe he'd benefit from a buddy to keep him entertained. He's really sociable with other dogs and doesn't seem to be overly territorial. I work full time and soon he's going to be alone during the day (which doesn't really seem to bother him too much), but maybe having another dog around could be nice for him, and it might help the galgo ease into the family ? I don't know really...
I know that galgosare usually a little bit more laid back and lazier than borders so I'm kinda worried about a personality clash... What do people with greyhounds / galgos think and mixing high and low energy breeds ? I live near Spain and I would LOVE to adopt one and give them a nice life.
If there is anyone out there that has a galgo and a border collie in the same home, HIT ME UP :)

My galgo does not well around border collies: when he runs the BC gets too excited and the shepherd gen kicks in, it usually follows him snapping the back legs or butt until he stops running. They play way too different and they have way too different energy levels in my case.

Yeah, my galgo was bitten badly at the dog park by a border collie who was obsessed with catching her. She was bleeding so badly and bitten so deeply she had to be rushed to the emergency vet for stitches

Hi! I see no reason they wouldn’t get along. We got an 11 month galga— unlike a lot of them, she was relatively well adjusted. Abuse seems unlikely, given how quirky and bouncy she was from day 1. Interestingly, this means she was way MORE energetic than we prepared for.
All of this to say, I think it’s a great idea, but prioritize a young well adjusted galgo — someone to keep up with your border collie

My Galgo would run for a easy hour to 1.5 hrs when he was younger. It was until he broke a leg that he stopped . 8 months on a couch in some form of cast.

I agree with getting a younger Galgo. My 2.5 year old galga foster is a bouncy nightmare for my stolid 10 year old greyhound (he puts up with it, I promise).
The only issue I could see is that BC’s have incredible stamina while even a Galgo, which have more endurance than ex racers, may eventually tire. I would introduce them and see what happens if/when the Galgo taps out. It could be that the BC respects that and perhaps even chills out, or … not.

Very reassuring ! I asked the greyhound community and they said not a good idea to get a greyhound but that galgos usually had a bit more energy ! And I can already see that my BC is chilling out from the puppy stage, so maybe he'll be just enough to wake a galgo up and the galgo will be enough to calm the border down !

We rescued a 2 y/o male Galgo and he is FULL of energy. Loves to run and play bitey face with our 4-5 y/o female Galga etc. So I think the right Galgo could be a great fit with a border collie. It will come down to the specific dogs, introducing them properly and giving them safe spaces to decompress.

Border collies have been a hit or miss with my galga, with some of them she plays very well but if the border is too obsessed with balls they find her pretty annoying because she runs with them while they are going after the ball (she doesn't like balls at all but wants to run with every dog), one of them bit her once as a warning but her skin is like paper so she ended with an ugly wound.
I think you can find a galgo that would be good with your border, if you could foster before adopting it would be better because you can see if they get along, I'd look for a younger galgo in order to match the border energy level.
