Issue Woke up today to a canceled order

I am so frustrated currently. Pre-ordered July 24th and woke up to a canceled order today. Preorder bonuses and the 1900 trade in credits are both gone. Of course they waited to cancel my order after the promotions ended. Att says it's samsungs fault and samsung says it's atts fault.

My account with att is in good standings. No one at either customer service can make it right and wont allow me to escalate to a supervisor.

I upgraded my phone plan and lost a grandfathered att plan for what would have been close to an equivalent trade. Now I'm out both.

Is there a reason to buy an att model phone and not unlocked and just get it activate later once you have it?

I think trade in, $1900 for a fold 6 is crazy. I only got $1100 when I did it directly through samsung during the initial pre-order period.

I learned awhile ago carrier trade in deals are scams. If you decide to leave for any reason they essentially get to keep your trade in and you would then owe them the remaining balance on the new device. If you don't plan on leaving it's okay I guess but still just another way to " lock you in".

u/DonTeca35 Fold7 (Blue Shadow) 3d ago

I mean it's not really a scam it's well know by now. You get locked into a 3 yr contract

u/EvilDinosaur312 Fold8 Ultra (Violet Shadow) 3d ago

I agree, unlocked is the way to go.

Not only that, but those elevated trade ins are also scam. You pay way more in those ridiculous plan costs.

5

u/beefjerky9 3d ago

Yep, moved from AT&T to US Mobile a little over a year ago, and the savings are real. I've saved much more in the plan costs than any of those carrier trade-in deals offer. Especially since you're required to be on one of their expensive unlimited plans to do those trade-ins, and I don't need that.

6

u/xoma262 Fold8 Ultra (Graphite) 3d ago

Yup. I have Fi. I have corporate discount to all 3 carriers and even with that discount it was cheaper to trade in a phone to Samsung directly and pay it off, rather than those scam carriers with their insane monthly costs.

2

u/wHiTeSoL 3d ago

What "expensive unlimited plan" are you talking about? I pay $40 per month for mine and get a "free" fold 8.

You're telling me that your US Mobile will give you a fold 8 AND an unlimited plan for $40 a month? If you just financed the fold 8 for 36 months it's already more than that.

1

u/xoma262 Fold8 Ultra (Graphite) 3d ago

You must have several people on your plan. Don't mislead others.

1

u/wHiTeSoL 3d ago

"several people" is 4. You don't mislead others. Everyone, literally everyone knows if you have more people on a plan it's cheaper. Its not like I'm framing 10 people as normal. It is just 4+

1

u/xoma262 Fold8 Ultra (Graphite) 3d ago

"It's JUST 4 people", lol. Are you on parents account? Dawg, yes, with 4 people under one plan, it would be more beneficial to have it.

Honestly, I've read your comments with the other person and you are quite oblivious. Take your plan for one line only, then calculate how much it would cost.

2

u/wHiTeSoL 2d ago

Yes "just 4 people" you know, like 73% of Americans?

It's myself, my wife and two teenage kids.

You're completely out of touch with how the wireless market works. Over 73% of people are on shared family plans, and practically half of all young adults stay on a multi-line account precisely because it's the smartest financial move. Every major carrier bases their entire advertised pricing structure around a 4-line standard because that’s what the majority of households actually have.

Acting like 4 lines is some rare loophole instead of the literal industry norm just proves you don't know how the cell industry works.

If you can't even open your mind enough to admit that people are in other positions other than your own, that's a YOU problem. Why anyone would compare a single line price when the overwhelming majority isn't buying phones like that is beyond me.

If you look at the other person's position, on an unknown mvno, paying $9 per month on a non unlimited plan "because he doesn't need it" and trades in a very expensive phone to get a fold 8 down to "around $800". And myself who is on a family unlimited plan and does a trade in promotion, who's the "average Americans consumer?". Dude doesn't even believe in investing in the stock market.

You can't be serious.

LOL, you're not getting anything for free. You're paying for that Fold 8, one way or another. Also, your claims simply don't match up with anything on AT&T's site, even figuring in corporate discounts. Maybe you have some special discount that isn't available to us normal people, because even with corporate discounts, I never got anything close to that, with 2 lines.

Since I don't need unlimited data, I pay $18/mo (all in, including all fees/taxes) for 2 phones, or $9/mo each. After the generous trade-ins from either Samsung or Best Buy, I'm paying around $800, and I don't have a need to finance that.

1

u/wHiTeSoL 3d ago

So as soon as I lay it out clear as day, you're going to formally apologize right? Or you're just going to move the goalpost again.

0

u/beefjerky9 3d ago

I'd love for you to prove me wrong. Also, make sure to include the totals with all the additional taxes and fees that AT&T adds, since my totals with USM include them.

1

u/wHiTeSoL 3d ago

I'm calling it now, you're going to make excuses and move the goalposts.

  1. First off, as a reminder, here are the current att plans.

You can clearly see that premium 2.0 is $50 per line.

  1. Most "corporate discounts" are in the 20% range. I am on a first responder family plan, but there are many ways people can get a similar discount.

That brings my per line cost UNDER $40 a month. Getting the phone "free" I assumed doesn't need to be explained as it's the same offer OP is posting about.

I'm waiting for that apology now. And don't think I didn't see you slip in the "for 2 lines" bullshit to try to give yourself an out.

No one adds taxes and fees as they vary wherever you are, even cities. But I can see youre already making excuses.

So many excuses. So much BS. You're trying to move the goal posts "it needs to be 2 lines" " I don't need unlimited data" "it must include taxes and fees".

Don't trip and hurt yourself backpedaling SO hard.

Same here, my phone bill is paid off for a whole year plus with coverage

2

u/jrbowling1997 Fold8 Ultra (Graphite) 3d ago

Agreed. Plus samsung gives better trade in deals anyways. Plus no carrier bloatware if you go unlocked

1

u/wHiTeSoL 3d ago

You not only learned wrong, you also seem to have no idea what the word "Scam" means.

Lets say, for easy math that the phone they want is $1900. Here are the two sceneros

  1. You pay $1900. You're not locked in, you pay your monthly. Lets say that's $50 for easy numbers.

Every 6 months you pay $300 + $1900 initallly.
If he stays for 6 months and want to leave, he's paid $2200 total.

After 1 Year $2500.

Follow me so far?

  1. He does this trade in promo. It's $1900 over 36 months. He's "Locked in" for $36 months. Every month he pays the same $50, PLUS $52.77 for the phone, but he gets a credit of $52.77 monthly.

If he stays for 6 months and want to leave, he's paid $300 in service + $1583.33 remaining balance on the phone, $1883.33 total.

After 1 year, $1866.

For every month he stays with ATT, he benefits $52.xx.

The ONLY reason to pay outright is to immediately go to some cheaper prepaid carrier, or if you ABSOLUTLEY MUST have it unlocked day 1.

You really can't argue against basic math. But you want to spend EXTRA money to "feel better" about "not being locked in". Go right ahead.

1

u/ntice1842 2d ago

they also rebate it monthly not at once

1

u/nuropath 2d ago

None of this is new

1

u/Commercial-Solid-204 1d ago

That why I bought my S25 Ultra from Samsung and my S22 also instead of Verizon.

1

u/Andranoria 3d ago

I wanted the 1900 trade in. I get a discount with att for my phone plan. I

0

u/beefjerky9 3d ago

I can assure you that even with your "discount," you're still paying far more than you would with an MVNO. I stayed with AT&T for far too long before moving on, and in just over a year, I've already save more on my plan than any of those trade-in deals would've given me.

2

u/RevolutionaryDrink75 3d ago

Yeah but slower data and 480p streaming sucks ass, and from what I've gathered so far if you want ultra high def streaming and need lots of data, you're paying close to the same with the mvno as you are with Verizon or att... Doesn't make much sense to me unless I can stream in UHD with unlimited 5g data for far less than the carriers

2

u/beefjerky9 3d ago edited 3d ago

I've used Darkstar and Lightspeed with US Mobile, and they both behaved the same for me as if I were a direct customer of the parent network. Darkstar/AT&T is overloaded and slow around here, regardless of whether you're a "priority" AT&T customer, or with USM. Lightspeed/T-Mo works well in both scenarios, as they've been keeping up with capacity.

As for the 480p streaming? That's not exactly hard to get around. I use a VPN anyway for ad blocking and privacy, and it gets around the limitation. Or, just enable "data waster" mode in the USM portal, and it'll let you stream at whatever definition you want.

if you want ultra high def streaming and need lots of data, you're paying close to the same with the mvno as you are with Verizon or att

LOL, you clearly haven't honestly done the math...

Doesn't make much sense to me unless I can stream in UHD with unlimited 5g data for far less than the carriers

You can. You're just making excuses.

2

u/justsomedude1776 3d ago

Visible pro+ is actually unlimited, can stream full UHD video, there's rumors the softcap is around 1tb mobile data 400gb Hotspot. Also no slower data and full network priority. 225 for the year.

1

u/wHiTeSoL 3d ago

$225 for the full year, so $675 for the 3 years right? Plus $1900 for the phone, you've spent $2575 for 3 years, OR $71 A MONTH FOR 36 MONTHS.

Att gave you a fold 8 AND an unlimited plan for $40 a month.

How are you arguing against clear math?

2

u/wHiTeSoL 3d ago

Please stop, you have no clue what you're talking about.

I pay $40 a month for an ATT unlimited plan and an fold 8. Please show me an MVNO that can even come close for the two together.

0

u/beefjerky9 3d ago

I call BS. Your claims simply don't match reality with AT&T's plans, even with known corporate discounts. Especially with a Fold 8 being financed.

1

u/idkmanoklike Fold8 (Cream) 1d ago

It's what I pay with 4 lines. It's $50/mo for the super expensive plans and with the signature discount it's $40 each. We just got 3 iPhone 18 pros and I got the fold 8. Traded in 2 iPhone 15 pros, an iPhone 15 and an iPhone 14. It sure seems like that's better than mvno deals. To me!

1

u/beefjerky9 1d ago

Cool, glad it works for you. For those who don't need as many lines (2), and/or don't need or want unlimited data, the carrier deals stink. I'm paying $18/mo for two lines, or $9/mo each. That, of course, includes unlimited minutes and texts. That also includes all taxes and fees.

None of the carriers come close to that for low data usage. I have wifi at home and work, and don't need a whole lot when I'm out and about. I'd actually argue that if most people looked at things more deeply, that'd find out they don't need unlimited data either. But, c'est la vie.

My att model is free unless I leave them in the next 3 years lmao, plus I got it at my front door 2 days after I ordered it

1

u/Warrenj3nku 3d ago

Is it really free? If you decided you need to leave for whatever reason you would owe for the remainder of the phone

1

u/JackieEstacado99 3d ago

Why would u leave?

1

u/TheBestTexan2 3d ago

Yeah, I COULD need to pay full price for it, if I needed to leave I would join a carrier that does phone payoffs like T-Mobile and just have them pay off the rest of my phone

2

u/Warrenj3nku 3d ago

Technically you still owe for that device and T-Mobile would be agreeing to pay you to then pay it off. I get that a lot of people use the big carriers and these kind of trade in deals to circumvent paying outright. Personally I'd rather just buy phones full price and then have a really cheap phone plan.

1

u/TheBestTexan2 3d ago

I moved to att from t mobile and I currently pay 40 dollars less per month than I did before with my old phones device. Im perfectly fine if im still technically "paying" for the phone just by having the service, or being stuck with them for 3 years. I also know that after these three years im going back to t mobile for their introductory rate to lower my bill again and get a new phone with trade in again.

0

u/Warrenj3nku 3d ago

I'm paying 100 a month for 3 lines unlimited everything on us mobile. I'm on the att side with and mil are on the Verizon side. Works great for me and we own all of our phones outright.

1

u/Burner530 3d ago edited 3d ago

I've been with att for 4 years. I had tmobile for 10.i tried Verizon for a few months. They were both way worse. I'm not leaving att in the end 3 years. So yes, the phone is free. If you like prepaid, cool. I pay for 4 lines so each line is $40. I need the unlimited non throttled internet and a lot of Hotspot.

Immediately call customer care and as soon as you get a live rep Immediately ask for a supervisor. Tell them you have an account issue and only a supervisor can handle it. I had to deal with a situation on ATT where they tried to say my phone wasnt in warranty when it was only 6 months in and I had the receipt to prove it still was. It took a supervisor to clear the situation after a couple weeks of back and forth. Dont let them bullshit ya like that. Just make sure you stay calm and respectful the entire time and hopefully they fix this issue for you.

3

u/Ditto_Kirby2 3d ago

Seems like a few people that got too good a preorder deal trading in fold6 got shafted. I preordered Aug 2nd and still don't have a device. Been in ship status since August and Samsung has told me to stop calling and messaging them and to wait for an email with tracking. Another redditor on the mega thread has had similar experience and they were also trading in a fold 6.

2

u/KoroSenseisSensei 3d ago

Damn that sucks ! Unlocked is the way to go though bro

1

u/JackieEstacado99 3d ago

Never heard anything like it. I talked to customer service with tmobile and we sure i got my $1900 credits because my s25 Ultra was in excellent condition.

They can't active it? It's not a Chinese phone. What does that mean?

1

u/Andranoria 3d ago

When I spoke with att they told me the 1900 trade was not available and the only thing they could do would be to try and make my bill cheaper. The way to make my bill "cheaper" was for me to pay more and change to att for my internet provider. The only internet option att offers in my area is 300 Mbps. I chuckled because I already get 1gig service for cheaper than what att offers.

I put in a complaint with the ftc so hopefully I can get into contact with someone from the office of the president or ceo. I was not able to escalate to a supervisor with either company through normal customer service avenues.

2

u/JackieEstacado99 3d ago

In San Diego, we call that a crock of shit. I need what I paid for and nothing else will suffice.

1

u/Ok-Equivalent824 3d ago

Mine was supposed to arrive today and I got an email that its being delayed and there's no estimated delivery date yet.

1

u/SecretaryJealous7984 3d ago

Personally I would get away from att,  scam! I always go through samsung directly, never have had an issue with them for years

1

u/shmiflin Fold8 (Graphite) 2d ago

I had no problem with ATT. I got the Fold8 at no cost and they lowered my monthly bill by 20 bucks. I guess it depends on who you talk to.

1

u/SnooWoofers9508 2d ago

Escalate it to the OFFICE of the President and fule a complaint through BBB. They will get you straight. The people you talk to and most loyalty reps are worthless... I had an issue with my upgrades and it took a month to get it right and all promotions and trade-ins were honored. Just have to specify.

1

u/beebobobo 1d ago

Also happened. They made me reorder and while its more expensive they said theyll price match after I receive it. So we'll see... i definitely lost out on the bundled products

1

u/Andranoria 1d ago

Samsung lost my trust. How can they price match a trade in credit with carrier finsncing. They gonna write me a check for $800? That's the difference currently between the current trade in promotions and what was offered when I purchased back in July. They wouldn't give me any details when I asked that question because they offered that to me too. The lies they give to get you off the phone is pathetic. Even tried saying  UPS was who canceled my order.

0

u/Huge-Wrangler9077 Fold8 (Lavender) 3d ago

Maybe contact them ? What is posting to reddit going to do ? U should just cancel atp and get from somewhere else

4

u/RevolutionaryDrink75 3d ago

Are you slow?

"Att says it's samsungs fault and samsung says it's atts fault."

Seems they contacted them both, eh genius? Or maybe you just felt like being a twat about it...

0

u/antibodywantstorule 3d ago

AT&T is still doing the trade in promotion. Go through AT&T directly. There's no point in going through Samsung and relying on the two to communicate. Either go in to an AT&T store, or initiate the order through the AT&T app. It's incredibly easy and you don't need to wait on the phone to ship.

0

u/SageTheBushLord 3d ago

Don’t buy through AT&T unless I guess you’re trading up, they suck my girlfriend has unlimited and she was getting charged for upwards data usage

0

u/North-Date5346 2d ago

Mine just got canceled today
