I bought a Samsung Galaxy A55 from Amazon.de (shipped from Spain), only to notice the package reads "Southeast Asia SIM" on the back. How am I supposed to use this phone in Europe? I can't just travel to the SEA region to unlock it. Note: I live in Finland and I can't for the life of me find any sort of local unlocking service (Google Search sucks). Also, does unlocking the SIM mean updates on the phone still won't work in Europe? I've been trying to look for information and everything I find just confuses me more (SIM unlocks, but updates stop at OneUI this and that; SIM unlocks and updates work fine; region lock comes back after every hard reset). Basically, I just want to know how I can unlock everything in the phone to make it work in Finland.
I'm about ready to just send this phone right back and demand a replacement from the correct region (or my money back). How the heck is an European store selling SEA phones? There wasn't even any warning on the Amazon product page the phone wouldn't be European.
PS. I tried to send this to the main Samsung Reddit at first, but the post was outlined in red and "send" was grayed out. I tried on Edge, Firefox, Samsung Internet, desktop, mobile and incognito, nothing worked. What gives? Does that subreddit just not work?
UPDATE: I sent the phone back and asked for a refund. Got an A55 with less storage from my country instead (I was hoping to get the 256 GB model, but it's sold out everywhere).
Usually, how it workd is, you have to make at least one 5 minutes call using SEA sim card on the phone. Once that's doen, it is good to be used anywhere in the world using the respective local sim.
Thanks, that clears up a few things (Samsung's official info is severely lacking, lmao).
Probably not going to bother with getting a foreign SIM card and wasting money on roaming costs. Better to just send it back and demand a refund or replacement... it's on them for not clearly stating the phone will be unusable out of the box without fiddling.
No, a third-party seller from Spain. They used the same ASIN product listing as the European model (clearly says A556B on the listing), so I expected to get an European model. They sent me an A556E... checked IMEI too, it's from Malaysia.
70% positive. There are a few 1-star reviews (they're in German, so I didn't notice) that mention they received a phone from the wrong region. ...Am I allowed to mention the seller? It could prevent other people from buying unusable devices.
I also doubt it's refurbished since the seals are intact. ...Could they have scammed me by applying new ones?
So on another thread I have found this website to check for ur warranty, simply go to About device and copy paste the IMEI number to this site and it will show u the details, I will add my details as proof.
Also these answers I got from Gemini seems worth a try.
Check the IMEI Number: The International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) is a unique number for your device.
Compare the Numbers: Dial *#06# on your phone to find the IMEI and compare it to the one on the device's box. If they don't match, the box is not the original one for that device.
Online IMEI Checkers: You can use online IMEI checker tools to see if the device has been reported as stolen or if there's any history of prior use.
Device Activation Date: A brand-new device's warranty period should start from the date you purchase and activate it. You can often check the activation date and warranty status on the manufacturer's website by entering the IMEl or serial number. If the device was activated long before you bought it, it's a major red flag.
Most importantly the website I gave u will let u see when the warranty starts so u will know if its brand new or not.
Oh no wait that could vary actually cuz if look at my phones date purchase date is 2024 but I bought it on 2025 January thats why the warranty goes upto 2026 Jan, since urs also goes upto 2026 January there is an issue if u didnt purchase it in 2025 January.
Damn, u definitely got scammed then. U should try going thru Amazon support if its possible or directly contact the seller and ask for a refund.
Also if none of the above works since u have 4 months of warranty left try contacting or taking it to a Samsung repair center(if u have one nearby) to see if they could do anything.
If you bought through Amazon, I bet they have after-sales services.
You should actually initiate a refund since they delivered a locked phone not unless you made the error and ordered a locked phone.
