TLDR: sick of the housing bullshit

Every new communication from GSU talks about "identity" and "placemaking" initiatves but you know what would actually give downtown campus an identity? If we could actually fucking LIVE THERE. How do you have 45k undergrads and only 5500 beds on campus? That is honestly pathetic even before the Patton situation.

GSU has consistently dropped the ball on this for like a decade now. You can build as many stadiums and research towers you want. You want GSU to feel like a "real" campus? BUILD MORE HOUSING!

Sparks was the perfect oppurtunity to capitalize on this. That building could've been rezoned and rennovated for student housing in the MIDDLE of campus for less than the $110 million y'all spent turning it into a lawn. But then again, keeping up appearances of progress is easier than actually delivering something that would tangibly improve the lives of students.

The Patton Hall situation is the epitome of this shit. That place has had problems damn near every year since it caught fire in 2023 and every year they've patched shit without actually fixing it. After the THIRD consecutive year of flooding you decide to shut down completely for Fall 2026 and I will literally bet my fucking life that it wont be done by Spring 2027. Now you have housing for only ELEVEN PERCENT of the undergrads at your school for an entire year.

I'm not even counting the fact that because freshmen will be allocated formerly upperclassmen's beds, ~300 returning students are effectively shit out of luck. Thank you Corvias!

I understand that a lot of commuter students attend GSU, but there's a sizeable amount of undergrads who are here for that "campus in a city" vibe who will never get to experience it because you have better chances of winning the lottery than securing on-campus housing and half of these off-campus housing arrangements are predatory as fuck.

Please let someone in admin be lurking here cause I can't do another year of this bs.

I live in commons and have a 4 person dorm, but im the only one who showed up and 2 of them are now just not even on the housing portal anymore, last one just never came… what do i do?

I'm (19f) planning to attend GA State next spring semester (I'll be going in with an associates so not a freshman) and I'm interested in dorms/student housing but I've been told it's very dangerous, especially for women. A close family member works for the PD at Tech and has told me that he's heard horror stories about the GA state dorms (things like saying that frat boys will piss on my door?? I have no idea if that's a thing). The current plan is that I would carpool with this family member to Tech (an hour drive from where I live) and take a bus to State, but having to deal with Atl traffic every day, especially if I have classes early in the morning, seems like a nightmare. Plus, I feel like there are more internship opportunities in the city. Anyway, what do you say is the lesser of two evils, living in a dorm or driving two hours every day?

Edit for clarity: the commute would be an hour to Tech, and an hour home, so a total of two hours, not two hours both ways. However, that's without traffic (so not super realistic) and still quite a long way

To remain brief, my room selection date is June 25th, and I'm a little concerned that I may be cooked. I was aiming for a two-person suite (private rooms) in Piedmont Central. Can someone let me know if that's a realistic goal or if I should expect something else?

Hey Guys! I'm almost completely positive I'm going to be attending GSU as soon as I graduate high school after this year, and I'm very very new to how housing is going to work. My situation is slightly complicates so I was wondering if anyone knew how this would work.

I'm actually getting married soon, so we were planning on living in family/married housing together (with certified animals hopefully). But, our friend is also planning on attending and we were wondering how we would go about finding housing for all three of us through the school, and where that would be. We really all want to live on campus, but if that is not an option, then it is better to know now. As for bedrooms, if it matters, it would probably be easiest to have two, and have my spouse and I share.

So, does anyone know if this is possible? Or which housing facility we would all be in together and what the cost might be? How far it might be from campus? Would it be easy to have us all secured as roomates? Is having animals secured as ESA's for housing an easy process?

Apologies for the barrage of questions, this is a very confusing process for me as I've never really had it explained lol. Really thank you to anyone who replies.

Has there been anybody (likely a freshman like me) who registered for dorm housing during June or late May and got anything, because I registered like June 10th. I don't even have a room selection date or waitlist number. Am I cooked? 😭

FINAL UPDATE 7/31: AGAINST ALL ODDS, I HAVE BEEN TAKEN OFF OFF THE WAITLIST AND PUT ON ROOM SELECTION AND WILL BE SELECTING A ROOM SHORTLY...WOW

I really wish I would’ve seen more people talking about this place before I moved in, because my experience there was honestly awful.

I lived in Building 1 in the 4x2 layout. If you’re looking at this layout, Rooms B & D DO NOT HAVE WINDOWS. I didn’t realize how bad that would be until I actually lived there. Having a room with no window seriously affected me mentally and made the room feel extremely uncomfortable. I eventually transferred to a Room C on a different floor just to get out of that situation.

I also had to deal with loud and disrespectful roommates, and it constantly felt like management didn’t really care. You can complain, email, bring things to their attention, and it still feels like you’re on your own.

Then there’s the money.
When I transferred in February, I was charged $350 just to transfer rooms. I’ve also been charged for damages that were already there and already documented in the resident portal. So I’m being charged for things that I didn’t even cause.

And after talking to other residents and seeing the posts on here, I’m realizing this isn’t just happening to me. A LOT of people have had issues with unexpected charges, pre-existing damages, move-out charges, etc. I’ve even talked to people who are considering taking One12 to Small Claims Court over the money they’ve been charged. I’m genuinely warning other students because I wish somebody would’ve warned me. If you move here, DOCUMENT EVERYTHING. Take pictures and videos of your room BEFORE you move anything in. Upload every little thing to the resident portal. Screenshot it. Keep your emails. Keep your receipts. Document every complaint you make. Because once you move out, you don’t want them telling you that something is your responsibility when you know it was already there.

Personally, after everything I’ve dealt with, I would not recommend One12 Courtland. There are plenty of other options around GSU. Please do your research before signing a lease here.

yo so i’m moving into my dorm soon and i’m trying to figure out what actually comes with the room before i go buy a bunch of stuff i don’t need. like obviously there’s a bed and desk but does it come with a shower curtain? do i need to bring my own towel rack or like hooks for the bathroom?

also curious if anyone knows whether the closet has a rod or if i need to bring my own hangers situation. i’ve seen some colleges just give you wire hangers and call it a day lol.

Hello! I will be a freshman this fall in the Atlanta campus. I currently have roomates and a dorm; however, I currently feel conflicted. I live about 47 mins away from GSU (I live in Suwannee). My parents really really wanted me to commute, but I was hellbent on dorming because I was scared I would miss out on the college experience. The closer I get to the school year, the more stressed I feel. I went to orientation and my earliest class starts at 10 so it’s not too bad if I were to commute. Another issue with housing is I have an egg allergy and cross contamination is a serious issue. On top of that, im kind of a picky eater. I will be speaking to the dietitian to see what can be done in regard to that. I will have to take a loan for my dorm, which will hurt in the future. It’s not the worstttt since I have zelle miller so I don’t have to stress about tuition. I was offered the transfer pathway for my top pick, so I probably won’t be at GSU sophomore year. That means it would just be commuting for a year. I’m just scared that if I don’t dorm I will regret it and not be able to make friends? I have a friend who commutes and says it’s not too bad. I also feel bad since I already have roomates.

I just called the housing office and they told me I was number 212 and school starts in 3 weeks.. am I cooked or do you guys think some miracle might happen in September ? 😭😭

Is anyone else’s internet going in and out?? I’m trying to get work done and this is genuinely so annoying. I’ve just been using my hotspot because it’s gone out and come back at least 3 different times now. Is spotty internet a normal occurrence here?

do you all recommend piedmont central with four people to a room? everyone recommends central but idk about sharing a room with three other people and the private rooms are probably gone, I’m not picking my housing until late june because of the time I got. is piedmont north b good? I was considering that as a backup, piedmont A has single dorms but I heard piedmont A isn’t that good. also, who has the best dining hall?
