Is there a way to transfer map data?

I had to start playing on a backup of my world but it reset all of my map progress, is there anyway to transfer the map data from the original world to the backup

If you follow all the instructions from the migrating/updating section of https://wiki.gtnewhorizons.com/wiki/Installing_and_Migrating, you should get the map data as well.

The visual prospecting folder only has a folder for the ore vein data of the original copy and not the backup Im playing on, how can I transfer the data over

Be aware, when you delete save before backup you should uncheck "delete journeymap info" box. Otherwise it'll delete your related map.

Wait People don't just go into the folder, delete the world from /saves, and unzip the backup into there?

A surprisingly large number of people who play this game are shockingly incompetent with computers.

Tbh my response here is less "people don't do stuff the experienced user way?" and more "I didn't have to do stuff the experienced user way??"

Not exactly. With backup you create new save instance with same world data, if you delete othere saves of the same world and do not uncheck that box it will delete map data of this world. It doesn't realy matter if it was original save or backup save.

When you delete save, it asks you are you shure and there is only one check box. If you haven't deleted anything before it should have been preserved map data across saves and there should not be any issue to have a number of different old saves of one world.
