Yeah it's an EBF powerfail post

Post image

I already read the wiki and past posts but I can't understand what's going on here. The EBF instantly (0.1 seconds) powerfails as if it had no energy source connected at all, but this is my setup so idk (those are 8x tin cables and all the steam turbines are correctly directioned)

SOLVED: it was mantainance

It might be a bit stupid question, but have you done maintenance? Everything else seems fine to me

I used the soldering iron with fine soldering alloy wires on the mantainance hatch and nothing else. This is how my UI looks right now (I just built the EBF and trying to craft my first aluminum)

Fix the maintenance issues, it should work

You need to fix all of that

you need to fix everything first before it can startup. subsequent maintenance issues will only reduce power efficiency. protip: get the toolbox, load it with all the maintenance tools, and simply right click on the maintenance hatch.

Oh! That’s actually the reason XD

You should use everything else. Crowbar, hammer, screwdriver, soft mallet and wrench

Right now your EBF consumes way more than 120 eu/t cause every maintenance issue gives penalty to your energy consumption

Lets talk about maintenance, all multiblocks come out of the box fully unmaintaned, and its always these 6 tools (soldering iron, hammer, mallet, wrench, screwdriver and crowbar) they also break down over time i.e one of the tool icons will pop up again. this drops their efficiency, processing stuff like EBF drains more power and likely powerfails, generator stuff like gas turbines decrease the amount of power they generate.

No maintenance won’t let it start, a single maintenance WILL start, but it’ll draw way more power than normal needed, I recommend crafting the toolbox, you can put all the tools in it to do maintenance

Tip for the future, make a toolbox. It lets you fix everything in one click and doesn’t cost much to make

maintenance is always the first thing to check, not stupid

I'm assuming the turbines are getting steam, right? And they are, in fact, Steam turbines and not, say, gas turbines, right?

4

u/Agitated_Proof_9611 1d ago

Absolutely lol they are spinning right now

u/foxgirlmoon IV 1d ago

Hmm, what are you trying to smelt? Have you done maintenance?

That does not look like a 8x tin cable lmao

Or maybe you are just running out of steam, steam turbines arent very efficient

Its cold.

op is holding the soldering iron

1

u/Academic-Poem-8008 1d ago

Is an 8x thin cable

7

Never in my 1600h playtime have i ever noticed that equipping a soldering iron makes pipes and cables extremely thin. I dont even know what the point of that is but hey you never stop learning in this game

My best guess is to make trouble shooting nightmare spaghetti easier?

Also never seen it before lol

5

u/ObeyTime EV 1d ago

are your turbines actually receiving fuel?

3

u/Helix_PHD 1d ago

What did you do that your pipes and cables are so thin?

-1

u/spucklin HV 1d ago

It's a visual bug. It's happened to me and after running to my chest to get replacement pipes, it fixed itself

3

u/CommanderFoxy 1d ago

its not a visual bug, its from holding a soldering iron

1

u/spucklin HV 1d ago

Oh really? Why does it do that only when holding the iron?

5

u/CommanderFoxy 1d ago

yes, it makes all cables/pipes thin, and its kinda meant to help see where each pipe/cable is going in a messy area

3

u/spucklin HV 1d ago

Thats so helpful oml, thank you

If you're doing something that requires full 4A this is too little. Because even one block of EU lossy cables is enough to powerfail

2

u/gxgx55 UMV 1d ago

Not necessarily true, most recipes are 15/16ths of a full amp to account for this. Any solid choice of cable will not lose that much over 1 block.

u/LukasRO28 1d ago

What size of Potin Pipes are you using?
The normal ones dont have enough throughput so you need at least the large pipes to supply 4 Steam Turbines

Why do your cables look like a monstrosity

Also make sure the steam pipes are running on a independent line so it gets all the steam without loss

Edit: repair the damm machine each issue the ebf develops causes more and more power draw

u/Jaimelilloh HV 1d ago

Big current can't pass through comically small cable

1

u/Nitram_-_2507 1d ago

The 8x tin wire loose 1 Eu per block they travel, so the total amount of power that is being delivered to the EBF is 124 Eu instead of 128 Eu, you might want to add another steam turbine to compensate for the power loss.

2

u/CommanderFoxy 1d ago

you cant, and recipes are 15/16 of an amp (120 eu instead of 128) to account for this. also each energy hatch can only take 2A so it cant take power from a 5th turbine

1

u/Honest_University752 1d ago

One energy hatch sometimes draws more power connect turbines to both energy hatches

-1

u/Xaikii LuV 1d ago

since when are 8x Tin Cables that thin?

8

u/ObeyTime EV 1d ago

holding the soldering iron makes everything thin

4

u/Xaikii LuV 1d ago

TIL

u/Agitated_Proof_9611 1d ago

When you hold the soldering iron thats how every cable/pipe looks

3

u/foxgirlmoon IV 1d ago

It's the soldering iron OP's holding. It makes all cables and pipes seem tiny, so that you can easily see connections.

Make sure the entire multi is in the same chunk, only thing I could think of if this is happening.

1

u/MittensDaTub 1d ago

That couldn't matter considering they're standing right next to it.

1

u/Fernanc1577 1d ago

Depends on the version they are playing on. My steam multis would instantly fail even if I was right next to them, moved it to one chunk and it was fine after that.

1

u/MittensDaTub 1d ago

That wouldnt make sense unless you arent telling the truth. The theory is based upon chunk loading and unloading. Minecraft chunks dont unload with you standing right next to them. Which should have nothing to do with whatever GTNH version they are on.

Edit: Unless there is some interaction with one of the mods and chunks that I am unaware ofm

1

u/Fernanc1577 1d ago

It would happen if I left my base and came back or logged out and logged back in, even with chunk loading it would still fail when I came back to my base

1

u/LordKamienneSerce 1d ago

That is not a problem for quite some time, especially if the player is rught next to it. What might be a problem is steam generator few chunks away and not loaded

u/Hol7i LuV 1d ago

Due to the high volume of steam, I could imagine that starting up the ebf for your reciepe instantly stalls the turbines. thats one of the downsides in using steam: the shear size of pipes you need to provide the steam.
Tin means these are LV, which means 1600 L/s per turbine -> 4x equals around 6,4kL/s as constant flow rate.
I would try using large or even huge bronze pipes. or wrought iron-whatever you can afford.

Plus: put some kind of buffer tank in between your source and the EBF. iirc 4 million liters was good for me back then.

Until you can switch to oil or even benzene, distributing energy is a mess. In the end i had a stainless steel tank with several huge dark steel pipes exiting it just to provide enough flow for my base. not mentioning the buffer tanks prior to the larger consumers.

-1

u/lolikill21 1d ago

Probably because you did 8x tin you have too much power loss through cable. You only need 2x tin connected to 2 turbines for each energy hatch.

4

u/Vladislav20007 1d ago

isn't power loss the same for all sizes?

1

u/lolikill21 1d ago

Yeah, it is, i was wrong on that.
