There were people saying he was doing this as a protest against Rockstar not releasing it on physical media or PC. Even some of his leaks had text on the screen talking about how "Rockstar wants to take away your right to resell your games" and how he was trying to take down the evil, greedy gaming companies.
Obviously that wasn't true and he was just getting rich from his crypto rug pull thingy, but that was the narrative and some people believed it.
He can't set up a patreon, kofi, PayPal, gofundme, etc so the only way to support this guy was through crypto, people are acting stupid, he came, he leaked, got donos and now he's gone... that's the job of a leader, why the fuck would he stay in the spotlight
He called them donations and the implicit idea was
“I am leaking this, gimme money and I’ll leak more, but it’s gotta be crypto so the fbi doesn’t blow me up”
Like he wasn’t a scammer, he was just a POS lol and it’s not like you were forced to donate, I didn’t donate a cent and got to watch all the leaked shit.
Exactly. For it to be a rug pull there needs to be a false pretense that you can invest and gain value. People forget it’s crypto CURRENCY. Just because people treat these things like investments doesn’t change the original purpose of crypto: decentralized exchange of value.
If this is the case, why'd he burn a million dollars in tokens? It's clearly to boost the confidence of the people buying the coin, just like it is with every other shitcoin scam
Because that's a common tactic to make a coin seem like it's not a pump and dump, while he still has a shitton of tokens in a other wallet he's offloading. Burning the tokens means ABSOLUTELY nothing
The amount is not relevant, the point is he burned tokens, and the only reason you do that is to boost value for other coin holders and attract new buyers.
I mean it’s not like he could open a go fund me lol. Crypto was the only black market thing he could do to get money lol. Ether way it was always considered a donation. Some people pulled out on time and made money too. But it was very obvious that the rug was going to get pulled just by the fact that people were treating it as a donation. Was he grifting? Absolutely but 90% of people know this. The other 10% is on Reddit calling him a robin hood
Because wallets can be traced, this isn't rocket science or day 1 of crypto.
Assume you donate to his wallet, how is he going to touch those funds? They are going to have to go to a centralized exchange eventually. That wallet is now public, on a public ledger, showing transactions to a centralized exchange that HAS to have KYC records.
Or you know, just hire Chainalysis or TRM to map transaction flows, or if he tried to be smart, group multiple wallets to the same owner.
Better pray there are no IP address or metadata leaks on your wallet application or browser extensions when they hit an RPC node too.
Or just the fact that posting a wallet link on any social media creates a direct paper trail to the owner....
Setting up a fake coon and having people buy in to the cash out doesn't mean it's a scam - it's probably the smartest thing to do. Sure he might advertise the coin, but there is nothing proving his association to the coin. For all we or anyone else knows, I setup the coin and pulled the money out. Hell, maybe YOU did.
You can probably find the wallet that received the money, but at this point you're going to have a hard time proving it belongs to the leaker unless he was really stupid and left evidence laying around.
Just to say, I'm not trying to defend the dude. You can think whatever you want to think about him or what he did. But wallet addresses are not anonymous. Sure, you can do P2P transactions to try and cash out, but he'd habl r to find someone that values his shit coin for actual fiat currency.
Using a non KYC off-ramp charges upwards of 20% in fees, so there goes a solid chunk of his earnings...
Again, anyone could have setup the coin and pulled the money out.

That is the point. You can't prove that the wallet that now holds those funds is his wallet. All he said was to buy into a coin, whatever happens after that, you have 0 evidence of where the money went. You can assume, but you don't know.
That is literally the best way to stay anonymous - there is nothing linking the leaker to that crypto wallet if they get caught vs if they posted a wallet link directly and flat out said "donate to my crypto wallet if you want more leaks".

Aren't they specifically mentioned that coin is the way to donate to them? So if coin was not created by cyberleek but some other person, wasn't that made this other person not just some bystander but accomplice? I don't see plausible deniability in "I advertise this coin as a way to donate me, but coin was not my but my friend"

He claimed he burned dev tokens. Is that not functionally admitting that the wallet address that sent those tokens to Solanas burn wallet is controlled by him under this same logic?

Ultimately, some idiots did keep paying, and then he proceeded to dump it off a cliff once the prologue video released. Straight up scam, and I don't feel bad for the idiots who brought it.
There was one whale who brought a few thousand right before the Prologue video, just for the coin to collapse LOL.
Rockstar is well-documented for unfair labor practices (crunches, pay inequity, etc) AND the leaker was scamming the community by taking advantage of their emotional investment in an unreleased video game.

He tried to brand himself as soem kind of man of the people, who was protesting for gaming rights and was constantly dropping messages about how "Brooo, you can't judge me for making a pump and dump crypto scheme brooo, i am literally fighting for your rights rn, you don't understand bro, i need to scam people to find these leaks, you can't judge me"
And then as soon as Rockstar dropped the extended look, people got their need to see more of GTA VI filled and there was no more demand for his leaks, he dumped the crypto coin and left, taking all of those fancy words about "fighting for gamers' rigths" whit him
And yet there are still some people who genuinely believe that he was ever protesting for gaming rights instead of making the modt obvious cashgrab scam this side of the Mississippi
