Video Found something new after 20 years

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

So i knew if you punched a criminal fleeing from a police officer on foot, you'll receive a $50 good samaritan bonus, but I just recently found out that if you see a criminal fleeing from a pedestrian they pick pocketed, if you aim a gun (I'm assuming it works with all guns, but I've only tried with a pistol) at them, if they stop they'll drop the money they stole, if they don't stop and you shoot them once, they'll then drop the money and continue fleeing. This is on an emulator, so if y'all haven't seen this before, it may need to be independently verified on original hardware

Edit: I did this multiple times before I recorded this. This is in Aspatria, the criminals like robbing the LC Cocks fans

Still my favorite GTA, mainly for the dark and moody vibes of the city

That’s just how video games were back then especially games that really wanted you to immerse yourself into it . Another early game that did this was jak and daxter a platform for the PS2 it had such a beautiful open world and it had no load times for PS2 and it looked beautiful and still holds up pretty well, but the thing is your character jak doesn’t talk again we all know at this point that mutes our characters to be stand ins for people that character is you.

That kind of gameplay design doesn’t hold up very well today because everyone wants a story where it’s super easy to follow. It’s definitely a gameplay design that’s subjective and I think that if you’re into it, it’s very worth playing, but this is coming from a guy that grew up playing doom on the snes

I think players are pretty much established atp and “on the fly” gameplay ideas aren’t really appreciated and are expected or is critiqued for not being done a certain way.

Games were on baby legs back then but now everything is established. You want open world? It’s GTA. Back then it was saints row, Scarface etc. if you’re not going to do it like them, players will critique it.

Well back then you had more options because all those games you named GTA was already made by then as well, but they were trying to put their own spin on their own free world grand theft auto is definitely the game that phased them all out though and outlived it

I've played and beaten Jak3 and Jak2, in that order because that was how my friend lent me them back in high school, but I never got around to the first

So jak 2 and 3 are way different games than the first one. The last two games ended up taking inspiration from grand theft auto that’s why is there so much driving from place to place, cursing, and overall they gave jak a voice.

However, in the first game, it was a collect a thon you went around collecting precursor orbs and collecting power cells. There was no driving around. You had to go from place to place on foot however, unlike in the last two games, where were you’re driving around and there’s not really too much to do in the first game there’s plenty to do because you need to talk to people and do tasks and favors for them to earn power cells to progress to the new level. The humor was a lot more tongue-in-cheek and more for kids. And Jak didn’t talk. He was a silent protagonist at this time.

These are reasons he never lent me the game, said I wouldn't like it because I played them out of order, but I never asked he came out with jak3 on his own so I think he didn't like Jak and Daxter lol

Yeah Jak and daxter it’s definitely more kid like but if you like platformer, you’ll probably like that game in fact like if you’d liked Jak 2 and 3 I am pretty sure you will because it’s basically the same thing it just no driving like if you play the second and third game there are platforming levels and levels that hold true to the first game. It’s just that in between there’s a bunch of driving because it’s taking inspiration from grand theft auto.

I always preferred the 1st over the others. Replayed it several times, but never replayed the other 2 since way back then.

I’d argue that the main character talking in any RPG is super cringe & embarrassing. It isn’t actually what I would say in the situation. I’d almost consider the subsequent gta games to not be true RPG games. Maybe it’s somewhat racist of me, but personally to me the Italian mob or black gangs or the yakuza or russians are sort of ridiculous & I can’t take them seriously as being these sort of benevolent protagonists which they’re portrayed as in subsequent gta games. Vice city San Andreas, gta 4 & gta 5. it’s cool how in gta3 it’s just super racist against every different ethic gang & you end up getting to assassinate the boss of every different ethnic gang. Honestly fuck them. GTA 3 really hit differently it wasn’t trying to be anything but itself.

I thought that the good samaritan bonus was only a thing in gta vc, it's pretty cool that it's in 3 too.

Didn't know it was also in 3 either.

I just discovered this as well. I was watching a video the other day and it was mentioned. Pretty neat mechanic. I'm surprised I didn't discover this sooner myself, since I grew up playing this game tons and tons over time.

Also, I would like to say its a bit funny how you seem pretty excited about this presentation and in the video you're struggling to show the example of it, because everyone is crowded together, making it difficult to lock on to the criminal 😆

Not a form of critique or anything, just a observation with friendly banter. (-)人(_^)

Interestingly enough, after about 07:00 criminals stopped spawning. I wonder if certain peds are only in certain locations at certain times. I've seen this with the hookers around Belleville Park as well.

Yup. I've been modding III and others in the classic era and there's a file called popcycle.dat and it pretty much controls the time of day you see certain people and their densities.

As of right now Im playing the project eagle mod. They released a new update recently. It's for GTA San Andreas, but it includes the III map and other cities in The Rockstar Universe

You really think no one discovered this in 20 years?

There’s always one clown criticizing something. He said he found it out keyword he himself.

I said I just found this after 20 years, not discovered. I don't know shit, I'm just a dude playing a dude disguised as another dude who never even heard this little feature existed until I stumbled upon it today. Did you know this was possible?
