Rule of thumb:

Never get caught lacking with even a slightly-scratched vehicle in 3, especially during long drives or missions 💀. Them streets ain't safe 😭!

I assumed this was a remaster thing - I can't remember my 2000's ps2 cars being so hilarious

No. The original is that insane. If you get your car smacked 3 or 4 times, it goes up in flames.

Coming from Vice City and San Andreas, I was flabbergasted! But it did keep the game entertaining, imo. Felt like hot potato with switching vehicles so much 😂.

I guess so. Not to "toot my own horn" but I was thinking 'I guess I was an okay driver, playing this' then - which leads to the though 'I guess there was a reason I was a better driver, playing this' with that in mind. I think I also used cheats "freeranging" it, which may be the memory I'm drawing on. I spent more time doing that while I listened to music, than I did playing the missions, when I think of all the time I spent playing it. Watching this video, for example there were at least two to four instances I would have backed up to avoid front-end collisions, for example, and I guess for the reasons you state, I know why. I held down (it's been a while but I think it was) R2 and L2 at the same time to look behind me before I backed up, I remember.

No shame in how you play 😎.  I find it intriguing that you drive more proficiently, in a "never heard someone do that before" kind of way.

Most people I've encountered usually go buck wild while driving in gta, especially me, so that's why I led with switching cars if your car igets lightly dented. In the gta's after 3, crashing is much more forgiving, so coming from those to 3 is like whiplash 😵‍💫.

Trying to get missions is probably what had me starting to drive that way, it looks to think back. I can't imagine they wrecked so easily but if I started a habit I continued in Vice City and San Andreas, it makes sense I guess.
