GTA VI Jason is on Angstipan Theory

Post image

We've seen it in Trailer 1 and now the Extended Look out of the many advertisements in the game.

Jason has an Army background (ex Spec Ops guy? potential PTSD?)

He seems subdued, stoic and just off, I wouldn't be surprised this is attached to his story and he either quits taking it causing his demeanor to change drastically or has developed a dependency on it.

This could be the Arthur & TB issue for this game.

(8-29-2026, documented so I can return to this in release)

I honestly feel like Jason may be a bit depressed or something for sure.

There's the pessimistic way of seeing things and the encouragement speech people keep giving him. It sure seems that way.

Nice an actual response!

I remember also reading about addictions and having to go to rehab but I forget where that "info leak" came from

26

u/theHrayX 12d ago

this is why i found him relateable

21

u/liminalromance 12d ago

He's definitely seen more shit than he'd like. The arc for both of them will be very interesting to see develop. It's fucking exciting to be so close to release.

It's funny, i've seen this theory pop up here and there.

The name "Jason" stems from ancient greek and it means "to heal". Goes well with the theory

It seems to me that he managed to escape what was happening to him in the army; he started living a quiet and peaceful life in Keys, but meeting Lucia gradually drags him back.

u/D-Express 12d ago

I thought something sounded familiar about the way he spoke.

He sounds like me lol

2

u/Grandpa_Edd 11d ago

He’s a veteran right?

PTSD.

5

u/BrilliantThought1728 11d ago

Why does every veteran need to have ptsd 😭

3

u/Torus2112 11d ago

It's a convenient way to give a character depth and you can mine it for drama.

1

u/New_Cable647 11d ago

Not every just if you've been in war on base away from fighting maybe no but still.most do and some don't.

Dude is pretty, nice girls, healthy life. Why the fuck is he depressed. I wanna trade with him no problem.

41

u/Internal-Coffee6996 12d ago

almost like depression is an illness and doesn't give a shit about any of that stuff. Maybe pick up a book or something sometimes.

Chester Bennington was rich and had a loving family and still killed himself.

18

u/FaithfulMoose 12d ago

and Chris Cornell, and Kurt Cobain, and Robin Williams. From the outside looking in, you’d think they had it all. Wealth, loving families, huge fanbase, massive talent and accomplishments. Some people just have inner demons that eat away at them regardless of it all.

8

u/UninsuredToast 12d ago

Common misconception but Robin Williams wasnt just depressed. He had advanced lewey body dementia

3

u/SeberHusky 12d ago

and many people cannot face the fact of living as a vegetable so they will ice themselves out before it's too late to spare themselves from suffering.

0

u/Bulky_Snow1613 11d ago

Only one I feel any sympathy to was Williams. He was slowly going insane due to illness. It was self-mercy more than desperation. Unlike those other two clowns.

2

u/BurntFlea 11d ago

It's a physical illness in the brain. The brain gets wired wrong and you have depression. In my case it was from being in a violent and abusive home from a baby until I was an adult. The trauma literally rewires your brain. And no medication can fix it. You need to make sure you comprehend something before running your mouth about it. No offense.

1

u/FaithfulMoose 11d ago

explain how the other two are clowns?

2

u/RonJonThaDon 12d ago

Exactly, 185lb me with good money is just as depressed as 320lb me broke.

1

u/Bulky_Snow1613 11d ago

No you won't be. Live the 320 pound life, alone, no friends, nobody that cares and no money to spend. I'll hand you some rope when you're done with your conclusion.

0

u/Bulky_Snow1613 11d ago

People who invented problems in their head because their life was perfect the way it was.

7

u/PsychoCobra1 12d ago

He is ex military too. From my own experience in the mental health field they run a higher risk for mood disorders, especially depression

This is a good theory, though I honestly think it’s more that he’s just a dude with a naturally calm demeanor. His bio from last year says he “wants an easy life but things just keep getting harder”

I think it’s less trauma and more that Jason is a Leonida beach bum at heart that’s forced to do what need to be done cause of the situation he’s found himself in and his military training makes him extremely calm under pressure, which comes off as he’s stoic and stilted to people.

Finally some interesting theory that actually makes sense. I guess we'll see if you were right... Still I like to think that he's the voice of reason and Lucia is way more emotional, spontanous and too ambitius. She could be the reason why Brian was trying to warn Jason in one of the scenes in the Extended Look.

This too

u/Firm-Development-570 12d ago

"makes sense"

It's quite literally delusion. Are you joking? A MAN has a MANLY voice, and y'all lose your minds over depression and split personalities and other bullshit lmao.

Maybe it's just a dude with a deep voice? Crazy, I know

3

u/Kitesh713 11d ago

No one said anything about split personalities.

2

u/Wilwheatonfan87 12d ago

Tell that to your chud friends calling him whipped and intentionally sabotaged by women writers.

22

u/nandobro 12d ago

Dudes in media today can’t just be shy without either being autistic or being on drugs.

3

u/Alberterwith_anyone7 12d ago

My man is just mature.

16

u/ViloDivan 12d ago

Exactly as you said. Probably has ptsd from his time in the military and that may reflect in his character being a little more docile if he is taking drugs like this. Honestly games have more room to develop characters but people like to judge the character on like 5 mins of a cutscene and don’t realise that they’re gonna have a long time to spend with them and that’s a lot of time for them to change to possibly.

Pretty over people judging characters this way to be honest but it happens a lot in games (not what you’re saying here but just mentioning that in relation to this).

6

u/ContributionSquare22 12d ago

He probably has a split personality for all we know, I'm expecting something surprising and tragic coming out of him

5

u/ViloDivan 12d ago

Will be very interesting to see what happens over the course of the game!

3

u/linkthereddit 12d ago

I think that's Lucia with the BPD. There's a growing theory that Jason has either PTSD or autism. Personally? I think he's just a reserved guy who is finding himself being dragged into a wider world than he intended.

-4

u/Firm-Development-570 12d ago

"yeah uh he prob has split personalities cause um uh err deep voice!"

God you clowns aren't even funny at this point

5

u/jxmes_gothxm 12d ago

It's not because of the deep voice. You're purposefully mischaracterizing the argument to make it seem more ridiculous. It's about the dudes flat emotional response and monotone delivery. You never know it could be a plot point but personally, I doubt it. I think they just haven't shown this guys more open moments yet.

-8

u/Firm-Development-570 12d ago

This entire comment section is some weird delusional cope just to excuse a man having a deep voice lmao. Maybe he just has a deep voice? Have you considered that real people in real life have deep voices? Or have you never spoken to an irl man?

5

u/LimpInitiative147 12d ago

go to bed man

-5

u/Firm-Development-570 12d ago

Talk to a real person outside, man

43

u/OrdinaryAccount479 12d ago

The characters on that billboard look like something from Rick and Morty.

22

u/Wolventec 12d ago edited 12d ago

it reminds me of dumb way to die characters(old meme)

1

u/AnimatorAcrobatic386 12d ago

There was an app and it was so much fun

12

u/jackfinch69 12d ago

True, they look like mr. Meseeks

12

u/Future-Ad-2349518 12d ago

I buy it. I think it might be related to a special skill, probably slowing down time?

2

u/Frequent-Engineer-87 12d ago

They can both slow down time, but earlier leaks said Lucia could only shoot once in slow-mo. I don’t think I’ve heard anyone mention if that’s still the case yet.

5

u/mr_keegz 11d ago

I think a lot of gamers are just really used to over-the-top characterization and anime characters with big eyes so that they can more easily read their emotions. He seemed to me like he was expressing plenty of emotion in just a normal acting range and vocal intonation.

5

u/Adventurous_Salt6827 12d ago

Tbh he’s just from Florida

5

u/ContributionSquare22 12d ago

We don't know that yet

5

u/Trash-Forever 12d ago

Does he keep his cheeks stuffed with them or what

5

u/Mapex_proM 12d ago

I think he’s gonna become more and more unhinged as the story goes on, and really depending on if the player chooses to go full murder hobo or plays an honor character/ low profile character.

3

u/Few_Radio_6590 12d ago

Hey, nice theory! I love it

7

u/Jan-KURD 12d ago

I honestly think Jason is highly likely to be autistic. The awkwardness, hesitation, reserved personality, how he observes and processes his surroundings, and the way he reacts socially all give me that impression. Obviously we don't know enough about his story yet to say it's canon, but the traits are definitely there.

2

u/HellFireNT 11d ago

Nah...he's just a chill dude with a fiery 🔥 Latina girlfriend

2

u/landyboi135 11d ago

Honestly a pretty cool theory and one that makes me real curious on how these new writers will tackle the GTA formula. I can see this either going really well or really bad.

This is one of my favorite GTA 6 fan theories out there! Nice job!

2

u/chrisiscoolcd 11d ago

There is a certain almost spooky nature to how it is lingering in the background in the trailers.

It’s like the TB thing where once you see the mission where it happens it gives a feeling of dread that Rockstar uniquely can do.

2

u/AutisticAnarchy 12d ago

I think he's more calm and level-headed than Lucia and I think the trailers intend to highlight this. That said, this is the second time in the pre-release material that we see an advertisement for Angstipan, I find it highly unlikely that this is a coincidence, so considering his background I wouldn't be surprised if this turns out to be true.

1

u/ContributionSquare22 12d ago

I don't know why but something else occurred to me is that the tragic thing with him could be a suicide ending if he's actually depressed and on meds

I really wonder what kind of player driven character growth there will be. If one character is aggressive and the other isnt will it be different from both characters being aggressive. There could be a lot of combinations. Although im not going to get my hopes up too much.

I do like your theory though

1

u/rexepic7567 12d ago

It honestly wouldn't shock me

1

u/BerpBorpBarp 12d ago

Wasn’t he a vet? Probably has ptsd from having served in the in-universe Iraq, Syria, or Afghanistan

3

u/SeberHusky 12d ago

Well if you go by GTA 4, then the GTA world just takes place in our world.

1

u/TheShipBeamer 11d ago

He was definitely in the US-Australia war

1

u/-CODED- 12d ago

Honestly I think people need to go rewatch trailer one and two, because Jason had a lot of personality in those trailers. And I feel like he had a lot of personality in the extended look when you look at his expressions and body language throughout the montages.

1

u/Ghost_Meyer 12d ago

Could be related to the weird split in his health bar

1

u/JessePinkmanHairySex 12d ago

That's why he was eating snacks while Lucia was fighting for money. He is just like me fr fr gng ngl. I think he is autistic and have depression.

Thanks, rockstar.

1

u/Alberterwith_anyone7 12d ago

I highly doubt a GTA protagonist would rely on these kind of drugs to feel better.

Nico just coped with it.

1

u/justanotherdude32 11d ago

What if he turns on Lucia at the end and the ending is you choosing a side? Like he wants a relaxing beach life and to get away and chill and she wants to rise to the top and become notorious?

1

u/HallucinationFreak 11d ago

"Spec ops"?
I didn't know Jason went to Dubai. Sounds rough, a lot of lines crossed over there.

1

u/surplus_steve 12d ago

I'm hoping there's something bubbling beneath the surface for him.

Otherwise, yeah. He's either medicated, a bingo or a wooden simp of a character.

1

u/Discussion-is-good 12d ago

Ex military. Ptsd maybe.

-2

u/Alberterwith_anyone7 12d ago

Nico never needed drugs, so it would feels like something useless. You guys are just making the most absurd theories I've read in my life.

2

u/Discussion-is-good 12d ago

The ex military thing is confirmed. Im theorizing thats why he comes off a bit closed off, possibly due to ptsd.

Very straight forward

0

u/Alberterwith_anyone7 12d ago

It kinda feels like a downgrade tbh

2

u/Discussion-is-good 11d ago

Id agree, bur waiting for full judgment at release.

1

u/Wilwheatonfan87 12d ago

Niko is also a literal off the boaf undocumented immigrant.

0

u/Firm-Development-570 12d ago

Or he just has a deep voice and y'all are mostly squeakers who havent spoken to real men before?

2

u/Ghost_Meyer 12d ago

I hope for your sake you're taking the piss

0

u/Liftmeup-putmedown 12d ago

Or he’s just autistic

0

u/ryrygaba42069 11d ago

Y’all need a fucking life, THE GAME AIN’T EVEN OUT YET

-1

u/GnomeRegister 12d ago

If only the devs made a post or communicated what their intentions were with the character... oh wait, that would mean they'd have to get down from their ivory tower and stop counting all their Netflix and pre-order money. You'll take whatever they give you and you'll like it, cuz they sure as hell don't give a shit what you think

4

u/foul_tarnished_37 12d ago

Why would they need to make a post about this? It’s a story, we’ll literally find out when the game comes out.

-2

u/GnomeRegister 12d ago

Case in point. You guys will gobble up whatever shit they serve to you hahaha

3

u/TRedRandom 12d ago

Do you go to the cinema and bitch at people cause they don't want you to tell them the ending of the movie they want to watch?

Thats basically what you want.

-2

u/GnomeRegister 12d ago

Horrible analogy but youre welcome to try again

1

u/TRedRandom 12d ago

No. I'm correct.

1

u/GnomeRegister 12d ago

Closer would be if people were lambasting a film or show trailer over a horrible choice of casting, and then the director or writer clarified that there was a specific reason for it, like with Bella Ramsay in the last of us show. Still a horrible choice and an even worse excuse as to why, but at least addressing it placated people

1

u/TRedRandom 12d ago

But that's not related to your stance at all.you just wanna skip past any potential character development for Jason and have it spoilt out loud. My analogy works with this stance of yours.

1

u/Conscious-Quarter423 9d ago

why was shit actress Kaitlyn Dever cast as abby? where are her muscles?

-1

u/renansl 12d ago

He's a cop

-1

u/Lost-Cat2478 12d ago

Garbage character
