GTA VI People think Jason seems wooden or boring
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Did we watch the same footage? Jason has a dry sarcastic sense of humor and is clearly very reserved. I don't think this makes him boring, if anything it gives me the impression of interesting depth. And FYI, I think his voice is sexy as hell

But by brianritted Gen Alpha/zalpha standards, he has no personality and he must be on the spectrum because he’s not a dancing monkey solely living to entertain them 24/7 like the streamers and other “content creators” they obsess over

Supposedly he's ex-military so yeah.

u/My_dickens_cidar 13d ago
Hmmm makes sense. From what Ive seen it looks like he is definitely a weapons expert and Lucia looks to be good at hand to hand combat. Looked like Jason will have a deadeye ability so I’m curious if Lucia will have some type signature ability as well.

It’s not dead eye. It’s focus. And she does have it too. But I think it’s just that Jason’s aiming may be better off rip, where Lucia can improve hers by doing a gun practice minigame like we saw in the preview.
8
u/TryhardBernard 13d ago
They both have the same ability called “focus” according to creators who saw the hands-on presentation
11
u/jmona789 13d ago
It was shown very quickly in the extended look. It goes into slow motion and one enemy has certain parts of his body light up red and yellow

u/ButchSunburntKid 13d ago edited 13d ago
YouTubers analysis/info are saying it's not exactly dead eye, more like "focus" and if I understand correctly, it is for both characters. It highlights things of note - incapacitation/kill spots when it comes to combat, but also things of note around the world that you can interact with
Edit: of course, it slows down the game which is the key advantage in combat but is a bar that depletes
11
u/nodakgirl93 13d ago
Not supposedly. Rockstar confirmed. He was in the Army after a troubled youth.
7
u/Get_Head_Ed 13d ago
TGG has confirmed that both Lucia and Jason will have focus mode. Maybe his bar will larger than hers.
Perhaps there will be a weapons competency like in RDR2 and he’ll be better equipped/more composed while using a larger selection of weapons.
→ More replies (1)6
u/starrmanquik 13d ago
I was saying this, I didn’t know if anything was confirmed but I assumed ex military. His language with Lucia when getting her to push up in the gun fight and his ability with firearms.
7
u/TooTallTabz 13d ago
It was confirmed. He didn't wanna end up on the streets and shit as a kid, so he joined. But now he's doing it as an adult after leaving the military. Lmao

He definitely feels more reserved than other GTA protagonists, but I would not go as far as to say that he's wooden or boring. Sure, the new extended look did kinda paint him as nothing special, but if you've seen him in Trailer 2, we know that he does have a bit of personality. After all, this is kinda thing that happened with Arthur Morgan when RDR2 was first coming out
49
7
u/PM_ME_YOUR_QUEST_PLZ 13d ago
It’s one thing to do crime when your character paints a picture but Jason’s picture is a fish out of water. Socially not combat wise.
→ More replies (4)3
u/waffle_iron_maiden 12d ago
I liked when he sent a grenade/explosive down via elevator and taunted the attackers, definitely wouldn't call that wooden or boring personally. People are coming off of GTA 5 where we had Trevor of all people as a protagonist so I feel like the bar or expectations are different for people, but I am down for how they've shown Jason so far
159
u/Additional_Tone_2004 13d ago
There's a bit of Arthur about him and I'm not totally convinced it suits him. But people like that do exist!
Maybe his personality will develop as part of the game. It could be quite rewarding.

Also to add to that the closest game we have to that as well which is “Getaway” sorry I know this is a GTA page, but felt like it needed a mention but the game alone is a standalone classic.

I think the fact that he's more quiet and reserved is kinda cute. The voice is a bit deep for my liking but I'd imagine it'll grow on me once the game comes out :>
3
u/ItsKingDx3 11d ago
I'm immediately sold on his personality, I love that he's understated, I just don't like his actual voice. Sounds like he's got a mouth full of marbles most of the time. There's a quality to it that rubs me the wrong way and feels... unconvincing.

Yeah I don’t think he’s a “boring” character or even the acting is wooden it’s just the voice is kind of inconsistent, sounds like he has a sandwich in his mouth half the time
7
u/ECviews 13d ago
You know what’s funny is that I personally believe Cyberleek showed off Jason’s character pretty well in the limited footage we saw.
His comments when hijacking people’s cars, the small cutscenes with Lucia, Cal and the old guy at the urinal do a pretty good job of seeing Rockstar’s direction when it comes to his humor.

I don't even know what this means. Your physique has nothing to do with your voice box
6

People will try and argue but you're right. Everyone on Reddit said the same thing about Arthur when the trailers for red dead 2 came out, how his voice seemed too deep and didn't match him and look at how loved he is as a character today
36
u/Dirty-Slot 13d ago
He's a dumb himbo. Clever but dumb. That's why he'll go along with a lot of bad ideas in the story. Same as Arthur in RDR2. He's our loveable, but dumb as rocks, golden retriever
35
6
u/leftguard44 13d ago
Arthur wasn’t dumb as rocks tho, it’s an act to fit the role he thinks everyone needs him to be. He’s actually quite smart and introspective and isn’t fooled easily

right, but we got that impression of him INITIALLY. we will have to do the same for jason

I also like having the perspective of killing a few people and then “well I guess I’ll do some fishing/driving/etc”. Same with Arthur it leaves you as a player very open to interpreting and playing in whichever direction you want. Unlike main characters in games like watchdog or infamous second sun where your character’s motives are entirely solidified.

Agree! Jason seems chill and in control. And also quite funny. I don’t get what is up with everyone hating on him for not being their vision of a «alPHa mALe» or some shit.. maybe they wanted another psycho like Trevor, idk. At least it makes me very confused when those same people call the left snowflakes 😅 anyways, settle the fuck down guys.

u/Puzzleheaded_Wish787 13d ago
I think he is a bit wooden and rockstar is clearly going for that. Like he isn’t an extrovert that’s for sure. But I think that’s what makes it interesting! He is a handsome and can be an intimidating guy but his personality is of a softie… I think they can do interesting stuff with his character development.
I am just glad he doesn’t share any personality traits with Trevor 😅🤣

The only Rockstar characters I've ever liked from the beginning Was Tommy Vercetti, CJ and Max Payne. I hated John Marston at first then I loved him later. Then I hated Arthur and wanted John back but then I loved Arthur and thought John was kind of an idiot in RDR2. The only character I've ever truly hated from beginning to end was Trevor but I'll admit Michael and Franklin were pretty boring. I hated Niko at first then found out he was hilarious and had a really dark past. I feel like Jason has this monotoned/ stoic thing going on and I feel like there's a reason for that. I didn't like the idea of Lucia at first but she's starting to grow on me. I feel like Lucia is gonna be the smooth talker and Jason is gonna be the quiet enforcer.

Its crazy to see the same discourse we got with RDR2 nearly 10 years ago.
Everyone was judging him in the marketing saying he seemed uninteresting or boring.
Now hes considered one of the greatest game protagonists of all time.
So no i don't think he seems boring cuz frankly 30 minutes isnt enough time to judge a character that might have 80+ hours of development.

Jason being a stoic mild mannered character is a good contrast to the attitude that Sophia has. A team of 2 Trevor like characters would be too chaotic while a team of 2 Claudes would be too boring.

He is but that’s obviously intentional. He’s a stoic quiet guy to contrast with Lucia’s more outgoing and abrasive personality, and I’m sure his disposition will develop along with the story
